Abstract
Accurate prediction of static and dynamic response of nano structures under external excitations has been one of the interests of scientists in the last decade. Several applications of nano machines make it necessary to analyze their components, such as nano bearing, precisely. In this paper, the static and vibrational behavior of a fullerene as a sensitive part of nano bearing under external forces is simulated by a newly designed spherical super element. This super element is designed in such a way that the user can select as many numbers of nodes as desired, so that it can be implemented in different desired precisions. In this study, a 228-node super element, which is similar to a hollow...

Abstract
Biological cell injection is a sensitive and important work which is implemented in injection of foreign materials into individual cells. Microinjection is significantly developed in the field of drug discovery and genetics so predicting the behavior of cell in microinjection is remarkably important because a tiny excessive manipulation force can destroy the tissue of the biological cell. There are a few analytical methods available to simulate the cell injection, hence the numerical methods such as FEM are suitable to be used to model the microinjection. In this study, a new spherical super element is presented to model the biological cells and deformation of a specific cell under an...

Abstract
The Finite Element Methods (FEM) are important numerical techniques for analysis of physical problems. Quick prediction of dynamic and static response of structures is one of the interests of both industry and scientists. One of the key elements to achieve this goal is 3D super element compatible with regular geometrical configuration by which a series of structures can be analyzed with less time and higher accuracy. In this paper, a newly designed spherical super element is presented. In this super element, the user can enjoy as many numbers of nodes as he wishes and consequently reaches thedesired accuracy and consuming computational time. It can also be used to analyze structures from...

Abstract
Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was carried out on bagasse fibers in an aqueous medium using eerie ammonium nitrate (CAN) as initiator under a neutral atmosphere. In order to obtain the optimum condition for graft copolymerization, the effects of initiator concentration, temperature, time of reaction, and monomer concentration were studied. The maximum grafting percent was found to be 122%. The bagasse grafted poly(methyl methacrylate) was characterized by FTIR and its thermal behavior was characterized by TGA. Pragmatic Semantics
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Izadi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Three distinct areas in linguistic studies are typically considered, namely, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Each category has a specific realm and deals with special linguistic phenomena. Presenting exact definition and clarification of the corresponding boundaries of each area is considered in both linguistics and philosophy of language. In order to explain the “meaning” for sentences of a language, this issue turns out to be vital. Representing the definition and evaluating the domain of each area, is the objective of the first chapter. In chapter two, some important semantic theories have been investigated. Since at first one semantic theory ought to clear its position about reference,...

Abstract
Driving behavior monitoring by smartphone sensors is one of the most investigated approaches to ameliorate road safety. Various methods are adopted in the literature; however, to the best of our knowledge, their robustness to the prediction of new unseen data from different drivers and road conditions is not explored. In this paper, a two-phase Machine Learning (ML) method with taking advantage of high-pass, low-pass, and wavelet filters is developed to detect driving brakes and turns. In the first phase, accelerometer and gyroscope filtered time series are fed into Random Forest and Artificial Neural Network classifiers, and the suspicious intervals are extracted by a high recall. Following...

Abstract
Using an FPGA as a hardware accelerator has been prevalent, to speed up compute intensive workloads. However, employing an accelerator in virtualized environment enhances complexity, because accessing the accelerator from virtual machines has significant overhead and sharing it needs some considerations. We have implemented adequate infrastructure to share an FPGA-based accelerator between multiple virtual machines with negligible access overhead which dynamically implements virtual machines' accelerators. In our architecture each user process from a virtual machine can directly access the FPGA over PCIe link and reconfigure its accelerator in the specified part of FPGA at run-time. The...

Abstract
The Analytic 6 D.O.F. dynamic model of a helicopter is developed for 3D computer generated imagery simulator. Analytic expressions for the forces and moments on the various helicopter components are derived. By using the forces and moments equilibrium, helicopter trim point is determined using Newton's method of solving the nonlinear set of trim equations. The equations of motion for the fuselage six degree of freedom are assembled by applying Newton's law of motion relating the applied forces and moments to the resulting translational and rotational acceleration. Visual C++ programming software, utilized as a platform will interact to MATLAB Aircraft Instrument ActiveX and 3DSTATE for...
A new design of continuous coaxial nozzle for direct metal deposition process to overcome the gravity effect

Abstract
In the metal deposition process, the performance of the nozzle is crucial to the quality of clad. Continuous coaxial nozzles are broadly used in this process for repairing two- and three-dimensional parts, because it can create a homogeneous distribution of powder particles. In addition, an inert gas can be applied using this type of nozzles which shields powder particles and laser interaction zone, and prevents the surface from oxidizing at high process temperatures. However, when this type of nozzle is tilted from the vertical axis for cladding non-horizontal surfaces, the effect of gravity on powder particles affects the uniformity of powder distribution at the nozzle outlet. This matter...

Analytical Modelling and Optimization of Disk Type, Slot Less Resolver
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nasiri Gheidari, Zahra (Supervisor)
Abstract
Resolvers, due to their robust structure, are widely used in automation systems. Among the types of resolvers, the accuracy of the Wound Rotor (WR) resolver in the occurrence of common mechanical errors is higher than other types of resolvers. therefore, in this thesis, an AFWRR is studied to improve the performance. Increasing the number of poles in WR resolvers is a good solution for increasing the accuracy of these electromagnetic position sensors. However, high-speed WR resolvers due to employing fractional slot windings suffer from rich sub-harmonics in the induced voltages. A common solution for suppressing the undesirable sub-harmonics is using multi-layer winding with appropriate...
Dynamic behavior of a tension leg platform offshore wind turbine under environmental loads
, Article Scientia Iranica ; Vol. 21, issue. 3 , 2014 , pp. 480-491 ; ISSN : 1026-3098 ; Abbaspour, M ; Nasiri, R. M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In order to evaluate the dynamic behavior of floating offshore wind turbines, the authors consider two approaches. A numerical method is used to investigate Tension Leg Platform (TLP) offshore wind turbine response behavior under a parked condition. This code considers nonlinearities due to changes in the tension of tethers. The off-diagonal components of stiffness, damping and mass matrices are considered to calculate coupling. This code solves the nonlinear equation of motion at each time step. However, in order to validate the data generated by the code, a scaled-down model was fully tested in the marine laboratory. The importance of these series of experiments is due to the fact that...

Abstract
In this study, the effect of different parameters on the fluid transport in a fractured micromodel has been investigated. All experiments in this study have been conducted in a glass micromodel. Since the state of wetting is important in the micromodel, the wetting experiments have been conducted to determine the state of wetting in the micromodel. The used micromodel was wet by water and non-wet regarding normal decane. The fracture network, distribution of pore size, matrix construction, and injection rate are the most important parameters affecting the process. Therefore, the influence of these parameters was studied using five different patterns (A to E). The obtained results from...

Abstract
Scaling imbibition curves are of great importance in the characterization and simulation of oil production from naturally fractured reservoirs. Different parameters such as matrix porosity and permeability, oil and water viscosities, matrix dimensions, and oil/water interfacial tensions have an effective on the imbibition process. Studies on the scaling imbibition curves along with the consideration of different assumptions have resulted in various scaling equations. In this work, using an artificial neural network (ANN) method, a novel technique is presented for scaling imbibition recovery curves, which can be used for scaling the experimental and field-scale imbibition cases. The...
