Abstract
This paper studies the energy-limited performance of multi-relay networks. Taking the properties of the power amplifiers (PAs) into account, we derive closed-form expressions for the optimal power allocation, the outage probability and the throughput in the cases with a sum consumed energy constraint. Moreover, we analyze the diversity and the multiplexing gains of the PA-aware systems. Finally, we investigate the performance of large-scale multi-relay networks and develop efficient multi-relay systems with low cooperation overhead. The numerical and the analytical results show that the inefficiency of the PAs affects the outage probability and the throughput of the multi-relay systems...

Abstract
Accurate prediction of static and dynamic response of nano structures under external excitations has been one of the interests of scientists in the last decade. Several applications of nano machines make it necessary to analyze their components, such as nano bearing, precisely. In this paper, the static and vibrational behavior of a fullerene as a sensitive part of nano bearing under external forces is simulated by a newly designed spherical super element. This super element is designed in such a way that the user can select as many numbers of nodes as desired, so that it can be implemented in different desired precisions. In this study, a 228-node super element, which is similar to a hollow...
Efficient cooperative cyclostationary spectrum sensing in cognitive radios at low SNR regimes
, Article IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications ; Volume 10, Issue 11 , 2011 , Pages 3754-3764 ; 15361276 (ISSN) ; Le Ngoc, T ; Nasiri Kenari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
This paper proposes efficient cooperative cyclostationary spectrum sensing schemes in which each secondary-user (SU) performs single-cycle (SC) cyclostationary detection for fast and simple implementation, while collaboration between SUs in final decision on the presence or absence of the primary-user (PU) is explored to improve its performance. As the SUs simultaneously measure the spectral correlation functions at different cycle-frequencies (CF) and exchange their information regarding the measured results, a sufficient number of CFs are effectively examined with parallel searching, which makes the proposed cooperative spectrum sensing more reliable. This paper presents another look at...

Abstract
Partial discharges are well known as a source for insulation degradation in power transformers. A hybrid transformer model is introduced to simulate the transformer winding transient response. Transformer structural data is used to determine the hybrid model parameters. Calculations of the hybrid transient model parameters are based on the parameters of the lumped parameter equivalent transformer model and electromagnetic rules. Modern computation techniques and optimizations are employed beside this model for PD location using the multi conductor transmission line model and also to analyze its propagation aimed at achieving (i) more reliable simulation results (ii) less computational time...

Abstract
This paper investigates the outage probability and the throughput of relay networks with joint information and energy transfer where the relay harvests energy from transmitted radio-frequency (RF) signal of the source. Considering different power consumption models, we derive the outage probability of the systems for both adaptive and non-adaptive power allocations at the relay. With a total energy consumption constraint at the source, we provide closed-form expressions for the optimal time sharing and power allocation between the source energy and information transfer signals. The analytical and simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of joint energy and information transfer systems...

Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the performance of dense Poisson-point-process-based cellular networks using finite length codewords. Taking the properties of the power amplifiers (PAs) into account, we derive the outage probability, the per-user throughput and the area spectral efficiency in different conditions. Our analysis is based on some recent results on the achievable rates of finite-length codes and we investigate the effect of the codeword length/PAs properties on the system performance. Our numerical and analytical results indicate that the inefficiency of the PAs affects the performance of dense networks substantially. Also, for a given number of information nats per codeword,...
Delay-sensitive area spectral efficiency: a performance metric for delay-constrained green networks

Abstract
This paper introduces a new metric, referred to as delay-sensitive area spectral efficiency (DASE), to analyze the performance of delay-constrained wireless networks. We study DASE in different point-to-point, spectrum sharing, interference, and Poisson-point process-based dense network configurations and with different levels of channel state information (CSI) at the transmitters. Also, we determine the optimal rates/powers optimizing DASE. Finally, we use some recent results on finite block-length codes to analyze the effect of the codewords length on the network DASE. As demonstrated, DASE is a useful metric for analyzing delay-sensitive green networks. Moreover, adaptive power allocation...
Joint sum rate and error probability optimization: finite blocklength analysis
, Article IEEE Wireless Communications Letters ; 2017 ; 21622337 (ISSN) ; Mili, M. R ; Makki, B ; Nasiri Kenari, M ; Svensson, T ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
We study the tradeoff between the sum rate and the error probability in downlink of wireless networks. Using the recent results on the achievable rates of finite-length codewords, the problem is cast as a joint optimization of the network sum rate and the per-user error probability. Moreover, we develop an efficient algorithm based on the divide-and-conquer technique to simultaneously maximize the network sum rate and minimize the maximum users’ error probability and to evaluate the effect of the codeword length on the system performance. The results show that, in delay-constrained scenarios, optimizing the per-user error probability plays a key role in achieving high throughput. IEEE

Abstract
We address the noninvasive temperature estimation from pulse-echo radio frequency signals from standard diagnostic ultrasound imaging equipment. In particular, we investigate the use of a high-resolution spectral estimation method for tracking frequency shifts at two or more harmonic frequencies associated with temperature change. The new approach, employing generalized second-order statistics, is shown to produce superior frequency shift estimates when compared to conventional high-resolution spectral estimation methods Seip and Ebbini (1995). Furthermore, temperature estimates from the new algorithm are compared with results from the more commonly used echo shift method described in Simon...

Abstract
In this letter, we introduce a decentralized compute-and-forward (DCMF) protocol to solve the rank failure problem in compute-and-forward (CMF) ad hoc multi-user multi-relay networks without a central coordinator. In sufficiently strong inter-relay links, we show that the DCMF scheme can reach the same achievable rate as in the successive centralized CMF (SCCMF), which is a modified version of the previously introduced centralized CMF in using our proposed successive method for a fair comparison. We evaluate the outage probability and rate of the proposed strategy, and compare the results with those of the conventional CMF and decode-and-forward, and the SCCMF

Abstract
In this paper, we propose a scheme referred to as integer-forcing message recovering (IFMR) to enable receivers to recover their desirable messages in interference channels. Compared to the state-of-the-art integer-forcing linear receiver (IFLR), our proposed IFMR approach needs to decode considerably less number of messages. In our method, each receiver recovers independent linear integer combinations of the desirable messages each from two independent equations. We propose an efficient polynomial-time algorithm to sequentially find the equations and integer combinations with maximum rates and analyze its complexity. We evaluate the performance of our scheme and compare the results with the...

Abstract
This paper develops a stochastic geometry-based approach for the modeling and analysis of single- and multi-cluster wireless networks. We first define finite homogeneous Poisson point processes to model the number and locations of the transmitters in a confined region as a single-cluster wireless network. We study the coverage probability for a reference receiver for two strategies; closest-selection, where the receiver is served by the closest transmitter among all transmitters, and uniform-selection, where the serving transmitter is selected randomly with uniform distribution. Second, using Matern cluster processes, we extend our model and analysis to multi-cluster wireless networks. Here,...

Abstract
This paper develops a tractable modeling and analysis framework for finite cellular wireless networks using stochastic geometry. Defining finite homogeneous Poisson point processes to model the number and locations of access points in a confined region, we study the coverage probability for an arbitrarily-located reference user that is served by the closest access point. The distance distribution and the Laplace transform (LT) of the interference are derived. We also derive a closed-form lower bound on the LT of the interference. Our analyses reveal that a higher path loss exponent improves the coverage probability and that there is a location where the coverage probability is maximized. ©...

Abstract
Massive multiple-input multiple-output (M-MIMO) is recognized as a promising technology for the next generation of wireless networks because of its potential to increase the spectral efficiency. In initial studies of M-MIMO, the system has been considered to be perfectly synchronized throughout the entire cells. However, perfect synchronization may be hard to attain in practice. Therefore, we study a M-MIMO system whose cells are not synchronous to each other, while transmissions in a cell are still synchronous. We analyze an asynchronous downlink M-MIMO system in terms of the coverage probability and the ergodic rate by means of the stochastic geometry tool. For comparison, we also obtain...

Abstract
This paper develops a stochastic geometry-based approach for the modeling and analysis of finite millimeter wave (mmWave) wireless networks where a random number of transmitters and receivers are randomly located inside a finite region. We consider a selection strategy to serve a reference receiver by the transmitter providing the maximum average received power among all transmitters. In our system model, we employ the unique features of mmWave communications such as directional transmit and receive beamforming and different channels for line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) links. Accordingly, deploying a blockage process suitable for mmWave networks, we study the coverage...

Abstract
In wireless body area networks (WBANs) it is necessary to devise an energy-efficient MAC scheduling mechanism which is capable of meeting strict QoS requirements. In this paper, special characteristics of WBAN channels, namely, the slow fading, the periodicity of fading, and the correlation among the channels have been exploited to formulate the sensor scheduling problem as a partially observable Markov decision problem (POMDP). Specific algorithms based on value iteration and pruning have been proposed in order to reduce the computational burden associated with the corresponding POMDP. The proposed scheduling mechanism is compared against a TDMA scheduling for a three-sensor network, and an...

Abstract
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a promising scheme for the fifth generation (5G) of mobile communication systems. In this scheme, transmission to multiple users is performed on the same subchannel using superposition coding and successive interference cancellation. In this paper, we focus on a multi-cell network with two users' data traffic models, namely elastic and streaming. We exploit the NOMA scheme in order to maximize the download elastic traffic rate at cells, without degrading the download streaming traffic rates. Since elastic traffic rates at different cells are interactive, we maximize the total elastic traffic rates assuming either perfect or partial channel state...

Abstract
Using an FPGA as a hardware accelerator has been prevalent, to speed up compute intensive workloads. However, employing an accelerator in virtualized environment enhances complexity, because accessing the accelerator from virtual machines has significant overhead and sharing it needs some considerations. We have implemented adequate infrastructure to share an FPGA-based accelerator between multiple virtual machines with negligible access overhead which dynamically implements virtual machines' accelerators. In our architecture each user process from a virtual machine can directly access the FPGA over PCIe link and reconfigure its accelerator in the specified part of FPGA at run-time. The...

Abstract
The Analytic 6 D.O.F. dynamic model of a helicopter is developed for 3D computer generated imagery simulator. Analytic expressions for the forces and moments on the various helicopter components are derived. By using the forces and moments equilibrium, helicopter trim point is determined using Newton's method of solving the nonlinear set of trim equations. The equations of motion for the fuselage six degree of freedom are assembled by applying Newton's law of motion relating the applied forces and moments to the resulting translational and rotational acceleration. Visual C++ programming software, utilized as a platform will interact to MATLAB Aircraft Instrument ActiveX and 3DSTATE for...
