The competitiveness of wind power compared to existing methods of electricity generation in Iran

    , Article Energy Policy ; Volume 42 , 2012 , Pages 651-656 ; 03014215 (ISSN) Moslem Mousavi, S ; Bagheri Ghanbarabadi, M ; Bagheri Moghadam, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In Iran, there are more than 15,000. MW of wind power potential, but only about 90. MW have been installed since 2009. Because fuel costs are the main part of fuel-consumed power generation costs and fossil resource costs are highly subsidized in Iran, renewable energies such as wind power have yet to be fully developed. This analysis sets out to evaluate the total generating costs of wind power and conventional power plants in Iran. A levelized cost approach was conducted that included investment costs, O&M costs, fuel costs and external costs of emissions for each type of technology. Comparison of cost assessments of power generation show that by taking into account global fuel prices and...

    Abstract
We want to solve fuzzy linear programming problems with fuzzy coefficients in the objective function using a new variable neighborhood search algorithm. In our proposed algorithm, the local search is defined based on descent directions. We make use of our recently proposed modified Kerre's method for finding descent directions. The fuzzy optimization problem is solved directly, without changing it to a crisp program. We show the effectiveness of our proposed method in comparison with some available methods by using a non-parametric statistical sign test. The objective function values obtained by our proposed method turn to be more accurate the ones obtained by other methods. © 2018 IEEE

    Abstract
We propose a new method for ordering bipolar fuzzy numbers. In this method, for comparison of bipolar LR fuzzy numbers, we use an extension of Kerre's method being used in ordering of unipolar fuzzy numbers. We give a direct formula to compare two bipolar triangular fuzzy numbers in O(1) operations, making the process useful for many optimization algorithms. Also, we present an application of bipolar fuzzy number in a real life problem. © 2018 Reza Ghanbari et al

    Abstract
To solve a fuzzy optimization problem, we need to compare fuzzy numbers. Here, we make use of our recently proposed modified Kerre’s method as an effective approach for comparison of LR fuzzy numbers. Using our new results on LR fuzzy numbers, we show that to compare two LR fuzzy numbers, we do not need to compute the fuzzy maximum of two numbers directly. We propose a new variable neighborhood search approach for solving fuzzy number quadratic programming problems by using the modified Kerre’s method. In our algorithm, a local search is performed using descent directions, found by solving five crisp mathematical programming problems. In several available methods, a fuzzy optimization...

    Abstract
Recently, Ghanbari et al. (IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems 27:1286–1294, 2019) have proposed modified Kerre’s method for comparison of LR fuzzy numbers. Here, we make use of the modified Kerre’s method to solve fuzzy linear programming problems with LR coefficients. In an approach to solve a fuzzy linear program with fuzzy LR coefficients, a bi-objective optimization problem is formulated. For the associated bi-objective optimization problem, we present a time variant multi-objective particle swarm optimization (TV-MOPSO) algorithm to compute the Pareto front, a set containing a large number of solutions. Contrary to methods that change the fuzzy optimization problem to a crisp problem by...

    Abstract
This paper studies the problem of secure and resilient distributed cooperative control for autonomous vehicles under false data injection attacks on the vehicular communication net-work. We propose a model-based scheme to detect unknown data falsification attacks using the predicted traj ectory in a distributed nonlinear model predictive control problem. First, as a local agent, each autonomous vehicle stores the information received from its neighboring vehicles to clarify anomalies. The recorded data is investigated over a temporal moving observation window which contains different prediction sequences of the distributed nonlinear model predictive control problem in the previous times. Rotary magnetohydrodynamic micropump based on slug trapping valve

    , Article Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems ; Volume 20, Issue 1 , December , 2011 , Pages 260-269 ; 10577157 (ISSN) Moghadam, M. E ; Shafii, M. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
A novel rotary magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) (RMHD) micropump is presented in this paper in order to both benefit exclusive advantages from the MHD micropumps and eliminate the current obstacles in their implementation. Lorentz force, which is the actuation mechanism in RMHD, is used to propel a mercury slug in a circular microchannel in order to suck the working fluid from the inlet and pump it to the outlet. This idea is integrated with a valve which prevents the working fluid from passing through, while allowing the mercury slug to pass, during each pumping loop. The performance of a fabricated RMHD is evaluated, considering parameters such as pressure difference, running duration, electric...

    Abstract
Titanium(IV) tetraisopropoxide was employed as a metal oxide sol-gel precursor to prepare ceramic composite nanofibers by the electrospinning system. To facilitate this process and obtain the desired nanofibers with higher aspect ratios and surface area, poly(vinylpyrrolidone) was added to the sol of titania. Four ceramic nanofibers sheets based on titania were prepared while each sheet contained different transition metals such as Fe-Mn, Fe-Ni, Fe-Co, and Fe-Mn-Co-Ni. The scanning electron microscope images showed good homogeneity for all the prepared ceramic composites with a diameter range of 100-250 nm. The sorption efficiency was investigated by a micro-solid-phase extraction setup in...

    Abstract
In this paper, a cooperative approach for control heterogeneous connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) platoon considering lane-change maneuvers is proposed. In complex dynamic traffic environment, the speed of the surrounding vehicles of CAVs changes dynamically. Thus, the lane changing vehicle requires considering velocity fluctuations to achieve safe driving. The aim of this study is to combine dynamic path planning based on a cubic curve and model predictive control (MPC) with collision avoidance constraint to track an optimally generated path. The proposed control performs as a maneuver switching model including the vehicle's continuous states and discrete maneuver transition rule for...

    Abstract
The way central nervous system manages the excess degrees of freedom to solve kinetic redundancy of musculoskeletal system remains an open question. In this study, we utilise the concept of synergy formation as a simplifying control strategy to find the muscle recruitment based on summation of identified muscle synergies to balance the biomechanical demands (biaxial external torque) during an isometric shoulder task. A numerical optimisation-based shoulder model was used to obtain muscle activation levels when a biaxial external isometric torque is imposed at the shoulder glenohumeral joint. In the numerical simulations, 12 different shoulder torque vectors in the transverse plane are...

    Abstract
Position sensorless control of ac machines at zero and low speed is possible using high-frequency carrier injection methods. These methods utilize anisotropic properties of rotor. Therefore, they may lose their efficiency for nonsalient machines or machines with small rotor saliency. In these machines, measurement noise and offset, existing delays, as well as model uncertainties may lead to inaccurate estimation of rotor position. Stator resistance which is usually neglected in these methods may also lead to a considerable error especially in machines with small rotor saliency. In this paper, a new position estimation method is presented, and it is shown that in comparison to conventional...
