Abstract
This work studies the nonlinear oscillations of an elastic rotating shaft with acceleration to pass through the critical speeds. A mathematical model incorporating the Von-Karman higher-order deformations in bending is developed and analyzed to investigate the nonlinear dynamics of rotors. A flexible shaft on flexible bearings with springs and dampers is considered as rotor system for the present work. The shaft is modeled as a beam with a circular cross-section and the Euler Bernoulli beam theory is applied. The kinetic and strain energies of the rotor system are derived and Lagrange method is then applied to obtain the coupled nonlinear differential equations of motion for 6° of freedom....

Carbon nanoropes (CNRs) are of interest for a wide variety of nanotechnological applications. Since little attention has been paid to mechanical properties of CNRs, their axial elastic modulus is explored herein. Molecular dynamics (MDs) simulations are adopted for analysis of Young's modulus of CNRs. It is also shown that increase in the initial helical angle decreases Young's modulus; however, by increase in the number of CNTs and strands, different influence on Young's modulus emerges. In the present study, the mechanical properties of vertically aligned carbon nanotube (VACNT) arrays in the most general case of anisotropic elasticity is studied. To quantify the elastic stiffness coefficients, continuum mechanics is employed, in which the constitutive relation is formulized in terms of the interatomic potential obtained via molecular dynamics (MDs) simulations. Detailed investigations into elastic stiffness coefficients with different geometrical parameters are performed and, consequently, their sensitivity on length and radius parameters is hereby studied. Comparison of the traditional linear heating method of TPD with an original stepwise heating scheme was reported for the first time. Stepwise heating TPD was carried out by keeping the temperature constant as soon as ammonia desorption signal rises until the signal returns to the baseline. More ammonia desorption peaks on a SAPO-34 catalyst were identified using TPD with stepwise heating. The effect of temperature ramp on desorption peak broadening in TPD curve was also addressed. Hydrocracking is one of the most versatile petroleum refining processes for production of valuable products including gasoline, gas oil, and jet fuel. In this paper, a five-parameter continuous lumping model was used for kinetic modeling of hydrocracking of vacuum gas oil (VGO). Abstract
In this letter, we propose a method for real-time high density impulse noise suppression from images. In our method, we first apply an impulse detector to identify the corrupted pixels and then employ an innovative weighted-average filter to restore them. The filter takes the nearest neighboring interpolated image as the initial image and computes the weights according to the relative positions of the corrupted and uncorrupted pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the best existing methods in both PSNR measure and visual quality and is quite suitable for real-time applications
