- Wildfire in natural habitats is a common natural disaster that can have natural or human origins. With the increasing global temperature and consecutive droughts, the number and intensity of these fires are increasing. In our country, due to a lack of natural resources and recent droughts, the importance of preventive measures in starting and effectively extinguishing fires is increasingly felt. Nowadays, with the increase in computational power, numerical methods have come as the aid of physical models to predict the spread of fire and have become a worthy replacement for experimental tests due to the destructive nature of fire. In this research, we have investigated the effect of main parameters such as ground slope and wind speed and their combined effect on the spread of surface fire on a laboratory scale using a fully physical fire propagation model named the fire dynamics simulator. The results show an increase in intensity and spread rate of fire at slopes higher than 20 degrees. The ground slope has a direct effect on the geometry of the fire front and changes its geometry from a round “U” shape to a pointed “V” shape. The simultaneous effect of a ground slope of up to 45 degrees and a wind speed of up to 2 meters per second increases the spread rate up to 20 times the no-slope no-wind condition propagation rate, while at negative ground slope angles, it has a negligible effect on the spread rate. Also, opposing wind reduces the spread rate by 40% at an angle of 30 degrees, whereas this effect decreases with decreasing bed angle
