Pinning energy of GdBa2Cu3O7-δ - Irradiation and magnetic field effects

- We have investigated proton irradiation effects in GdBa2Cu3O7-δ sintered polycrystalline samples with predominantly orthorhombic phase. The samples were irradiated with 0, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 MeV proton beams at 1 × 1015 cm-2 dose. The magnetic and proton energy dependence of the effective pinning energy, Ueff, have been determined from the corresponding electrical transport measurements under a magnetic field of up to 10 kOe. The magnetic dependence of Ueff shows a progress of vortex localization in the vortex state, which varies from H-0.51 to H-0.37 with increasing proton energy. Our results also show a power law-like behavior for Ueff as a function of proton energy. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
