- Transmission expansion planning is an important part of power system planning that it task is to determine the optimal structure of transmission network based on load growth and to consider the future plan of system generation for a specified time period. The development of generation plans based on renewable resources, cost and time-consuming transmission expansion plans have caused that transmission planning to become a fundamental challenge. Therefore, in recent year’s decision makers of power systems are following the alternative ways of transmission expansion planning with lower cost and economic appropriate justification. Using of energy storage systems have cause to a delay on projects that include the investment of transmission expansion plans and reduce the power system congestion and increase the power system ability to deal with intermittent outputs of renewable resources. In this thesis, objective is to measure the ability of energy storage systems decreasing on investment in the transmission expansion plans that using the proposed analytical approach can examine the impact of energy storage systems ability in transmission expansion planning studies. Using the novel method, the nonlinear structure of transmission expansion planning has become to mixed integer linear programming. Therefore, proposed method to solve problem is linear optimization. Finally, the proposed algorithm is applied on the Garver 6-Bus Test System and using the N-1 index to consider the reliability studies. The impact of energy storage systems on investment and total costs and lines construction limited will be studied and the results will be analyzed
