- In performance-based earthquake engineering methodologies, it is necessary to estimate the probability of seismic structural demands exceeding a specified performance state under different seismic hazard levels. This methodology requires a probabilistic framework in which estimation of specific seismic demands and related uncertainties should be incorporated. Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) allows the estimation of the mean annual frequency (MAF) of exceedance of a ground motion parameter or a linear elastic response spectral ordinate, taking into account the seismic hazard in a site with specified geological conditions. In performance-based seismic assessment of existing structures, maximum lateral drift demands are taken into account. However, field reconnaissance has evidenced that residual lateral displacement demands after earthquake also play an important role in defining the seismic performance of structures. On the other hand, pulse-like near-field earthquake records may have its own special effects on the seismic response of structures. In this research, an effort is made to select an intensity measure such that it takes into account the effects of pulse-like ground motions, and hazard curves are obtained for residual deformation demands.for this purpose a set of 2-D, one bay structural models with 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 stories were prepared. Results of the nonlinear timehistory analysis using a set of 34 pulse-like earthquake records show that using a nonlinear intensity measure have an acceptable cover on near-fault earthquake characteristics and level of dispersion of residual deformation demands decreases, also obtaining hazard curves is possible using a simplified procedure
