Aerothermodynamic Design of a Wind Tunnel With Three Test Sections to Test Gas-liquid Heat Exchangers in Various Capacities Using the Computational Fluid Dynamics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tari, Mohammad (Author) ; Darbandi, Massoud (Supervisor) ; Ebrahimi, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Heat exchanger is considered as one of the most widely used equipment in many industries such as the aerospace, oil and gas, and power generation ones. In recent years, computers have made it easier to design and test the performance of heat exchangers. However, these designs should be rechecked in other manners. Wind tunnel, as an important and well-known system, has been widely used to verify and, if necessary, to check the heat exchanger designs and to improve the performance of available heat exchangers. Obviously, the use of non-standard wind tunnels can result in poor experimental results to judge the correct performance of the designed or existing heat exchangers. It is because this...

Aerothermodynamic Design of Direct Coupled Turboexpander Compressor Radial Impellers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alizadeh, Saber (Author) ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, an attempt is made to obtain the geometrical and performance matching between a centrifugal compressor and a pre-designed radial inflow turbine. In this regard, constraints such as the same outer diameters, stagnation pressure, rotational speed, and power are considered. The impeller of the centrifugal compressor is designed by employing one-dimensional design method. The aerodynamic performance of the centrifugal compressor is 3-dimensionally evaluated by the commercial CFX software. A comparison of the 1D and 3D results reveals a maximum deviation of 7% indicating relatively good agreement. A sensitivity analysis on the flow coefficient and tip clearance shows a change of...
