    Abstract
    In the general case of minimum color-spanning tree which is one of the color-spanning set problems, given a weighted graph with n vertices of k different colors, the goal is to find a subtree of minimum weight such that vertices of this subtree include all the colors in the graph. In the planar case, the input is a complete graph with n colored vertices on the plane and the weight of each edge is the Euclidean distance between its corresponding vertices.     Abstract
    Let P be a set of n points inside a polygonal domain D. A polygonal domain with h holes (or obstacles) consists of h disjoint polygonal obstacles surrounded by a simple polygon which itself acts as an obstacle. We first study t-spanners for the set P with respect to the geodesic distance function π where for any two points p and q, (p, q) is equal to the Euclidean length of the shortest path from p to q that avoids the obstacles interiors. For a case where the polygonal domain is a simple polygon (i.e., h = 0), we construct a (10 + ε)-spanner that has O(n log2 n) edges.     In this thesis we study the possibility of unidirectional transmission of light using reciprocal and nonreciprocal elements. Unidirectional transmission will allow us to separate the coupling of light into and out of resonators and design unidirectional waveguides. We start by studying the effects of one-sided modulations of dielectric constant of reciprocal structures. One-sided modulation will satisfy the phase matching condition for the coupling of two waves only in one direction. Using coupled mode theory, we study one sided modulation in layered media.     This study provides a stochastic dynamic programming model with a Markov chain that explicitly focuses on the customer as well as a new model for valuing the customers in the banking industry. The proposed framework calculates individual customer’s lifetime value dynamically. The study follows a stochastic dynamic programming model that is based on the Markov chain. The deduced findings are illustrated with supplementary context from an outstanding case study.     This research aims to introduce a nanocatalyst based on open-cell nickel foam (NiFm) with 40 pore per inch(ppi) to save energy during methane steam reforming (MSR), an endothermic reaction, by increasing catalyst thermal properties with improved progressive compression strength. The nanocatalyst is synthesized with a chemical stepwise synthesis approach, thermal-chemical pretreatment, pulsed electrocodeposition of Ni-Al2O3 (γ) nanoparticles, and calcination. Two main sources of backgrounds which we took into account are W +1j and standard model single top production. In order to do it, we examine the reconstructed angular distribution of the charged lepton in the rest frame of W boson from the top quark.     Optimum conditions for the proton acceleration using radiation pressure acceleration in light sail regime is investigated using particle-in-cell simulations. Simulations results show that for a laser pulse with a dimensionless laser amplitude of a0 = 31 using circularly polarized laser pulse with sin2 shape at perpendicularly incidence are the best. Effect of two pulses with different duration and different amplitudes (a0 = 25; a′ 0 = 13) is also investigated in the condition of equal total energy of them to the single pulse and amplitudes of both of them are less than the single efficient laser pulse amplitude.     Drought is the worst environmental stress constraint that inflicts heavy losses to global food production, such as wheat. The metabolic responses of seeds produced overtransgenerational exposure to e[CO2] to recover drought’s effects on wheat are still unexplored.     Abstract
    A double burden of malnutrition occurs when individuals, household members or communities experience both undernutrition and overweight. Here, we show geospatial estimates of overweight and wasting prevalence among children under 5 years of age in 105 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) from 2000 to 2017 and aggregate these to policy-relevant administrative units. Wasting decreased overall across LMICs between 2000 and 2017, from 8.4% (62.3 (55.1–70.8) million) to 6.4% (58.3 (47.6–70.7) million), but is predicted to remain above the World Health Organization’s Global Nutrition Target of <5% in over half of LMICs by 2025.     Abstract
    Anemia is a globally widespread condition in women and is associated with reduced economic productivity and increased mortality worldwide. Here we map annual 2000–2018 geospatial estimates of anemia prevalence in women of reproductive age (15–49 years) across 82 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), stratify anemia by severity and aggregate results to policy-relevant administrative and national levels. Additionally, we provide subnational disparity analyses to provide a comprehensive overview of anemia prevalence inequalities within these countries and predict progress toward the World Health Organization’s Global Nutrition Target (WHO GNT) to reduce anemia by half by 2030.
