Abstract
We deal with primal-dual interior point methods for solving the linear programming problem.Taken from recent literature on interior point methods, we discuss a short-step and a long-step path-following primal-dual method and show how to have polynomial-time bounds for both methods. The iteration bounds are for the short-step variant and for the long-step variant. In the analysis of both variants, a new proximity measure is used, which is closely related to the Euclidean norm of the scaled search direction vectors. The analysis of the long-step method depends strongly on the fact that the usual search directions form a descent direction for the so-called primal-dual logarithmic barrier...

Abstract
Aims Previous reports on the possible effects of Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Fields (ELF MF) on mood have been paradoxical in different settings while no study has yet been conducted on animal behavior. In addition, it was shown that ELF MF exposure makes an increase in brain nitric oxide level. Therefore, in the current study, we aimed to assess the possible effect(s) of ELF MF exposure on mice Forced Swimming Test (FST) and evaluate the probable role of the increased level of nitric oxide in the observed behavior. Main methods Male adult mice NMRI were recruited to investigate the short term and long term ELF MF exposure (0.5 mT and 50 Hz, single 2 h and 2 weeks 2 h a day). Locomotor...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rafiei, Majid (Supervisor) ; Khedmati, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, requirement engineering and goal modeling have gained more attention among different organisations. Therefore, different methods have been designed to discover stakeholders’ requirements and translate them into process and organizational goals. Various goal models have been introduced to represent these goals and their relations towards each other. Still, these methods are manual representations of different process scenarios and do not relate to the actual behavior. In 2014, Map Miner Method (MMM) was introduced to discover intentional process models from event logs. MMM uses Hidden Markov Model (HMM) as a means to represent the process as a map model of strategies and...

Abstract
Optimization of transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding variables is essential to achieve a joint free from deleterious intermetallic constituents as well as with appropriate mechanical properties. In this research, TLP bonding of FSX-414 superalloy was performed using the MBF-80 interlayer. The effects of bonding time (1-30. min) and gap size (25-100 μm) were studied on the joint microstructure and its mechanical properties. Continuous centerline eutectic phases, characterized as nickel-rich and chromium-rich borides, were observed at the joints with incomplete isothermal solidification. The globular and acicular phases were seen at diffusion affected zone (DAZ). These phases could be...

Abstract
The as-cast samples of FSX-414 Co-based superalloy were heat treated at the standard solution and aging heat treatment cycles. Specimens for joining were cut from the as-cast ingot. Transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding was carried out at the standard solution cycle, using MBF-30 interlayer. Also, bonded specimens were homogenized at the standard aging condition. The microstructure of the as-cast, heat treated and TLP bonded specimens were studied. These studies showed that the non-uniform distributed carbides of the as-cast specimen were replaced by uniform ones during the heat treatment. Eutectic M 23C 6 carbides were observed in all specimens. Due to the complete isothermal solidification,...

Abstract
4340 steel bars were austenitized at 850°C for 1 hour followed by heating at 700°C (ferrite and austenite region) for 90 min and quenching into a salt bath with different temperatures of 300, 350, 400 and 450°C. The steel bars were held for 1 hour at these temperatures before air cooling to room temperature. Various ferrite-bainite microstructures with 34% volume fraction of ferrite and different bainite morphologies were obtained. The results of SEM studies showed that by increasing the austempering temperature, the morphology of bainite varies from lower to upper bainite. According to the T-T-T diagram of the studied steel, the bainite transformation will not complete for the holding time...

Abstract
4340 steel bars were austenitized at 850 °C for 1 h followed by heating at 700 °C for 90 min and quenching into a salt bath at the temperature range of 300-450 °C for 1 h to obtain dual structures with 34 vol.% fraction ferrite and various bainite morphologies. SEM studies showed that by increasing the austempering temperature, bainite morphology varies from lower to upper bainite. Tensile, impact and hardness tests revealed that increasing the austempering temperature from 300 to 400 °C leads to a reduction in yield and ultimate tensile strength, hardness, uniform and total elongation and impact energy. But in dual phase steel produced by austempering at 450 °C, yield and tensile strength...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor)
Abstract
Dust explosions are a serious hazard in many process industries and storage facilities. More than 70% of dusts processed in industry are combustible. This implies that majority of industrial plants that have dust processing equipment are susceptible to dust explosions. Dust explosions pose the most serious and widespread of explosion hazards in the process industry alongside vapour cloud explosions (VCE) and boiling liquid expanding vapour explosions (BLEVE). Dust explosions almost always lead to serious financial losses in terms of damage to facilities and down time. They also often cause serious injuries to personnel, and fatalities. In this project we presented a systematic algorithm in...

Abstract
In this paper, a new scheme for adaptiva subcarrier, bit and power allocation for downlink transmission of multiuser orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is presented. An adaptive algorithm is introduced to achieve the desired bit rate and BER for QoS (quality of service) of different users in a frequency selective fading channel, while the total transmit power is minimized. The performance and complexity of the proposed scheme is also thoroughly compared with the other existing methods. As the simulation results show, the proposed algorithm outperforms all prior sub-optimum schemes, while offering comparable computational complexity. © 2003 IEEE

A Study on Importance of Overstrength Factor in Inelastic Behavior of Soil-Structure Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghannad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recent studies on inelastic behavior of soil-structure systems indicate that seismic design codes provisions, which use the same response modification factor for fixed base structures and soil-structure systems, are not appropriate and could lead to an increase in ductility demand of structures (as a part of soil-structure system). As a result, to reduce design base shear and design forces with regards to collaboration of soil-structure interaction could be in non-conservative manner. In all of these studies, the ductility component of the response modification factor (i.e. Rµ ) has been the major concern and the overstrength component has been ignored. However, the existence of...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the last decades, noticeable experimental and analytical investigations have been carried out on cast-in-place Reinforced Concrete column to Steel beam (RCS) connections, however rarely have been conducted on the precast RCS. In this reaserch, test results of five half-scale interior precast RCS connections with variable joint configurations are presented. The steel beams were connected to the precast column, using face bearing plates, embedded in the connection zone. The flanges of beams were strengthened with respect to scaled section, in order to increase the load transfer to the joint. All samples were loaded under reversed displacement controlled condition. The failure mode, joint...
