Abstract
Higher reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in cancer cells than normal cells have long been recognized, which makes cancer cells more susceptible to excess ROS. Thus oxidation (also called pro-oxidant) therapy has been explored as new cancer therapy regimens. To produce additional ROS, e.g. H2O2 in situ within tumor, we encapsulated glucose oxidase in chitosan-coated alginate-calcium microspheres (GOX-MS) for locoregional treatment and demonstrated its efficacy against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Owing to the complex biological functions of ROS, the production rate and amount of H2O2 are critical to achieve therapeutic benefits without causing normal tissue toxicity. This work was...

Abstract
One of the most crucial steps in comprehensively planning the proper and efficient use of energy (optimisation of consumption) and appropriate management of resources to fulfil the power demand is accurately forecasting the energy demand (optimisation of production). This study presents the modelling of an ideal technique for short-term power demand prediction as a novel hybrid approach comprising two distinct methods, namely the Elman neural network (ELM) and adaptive network–based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The hybrid approach outperforms the conventional individual methods because it can eliminate the drawbacks of the individual methods while retaining their advantages, particularly...

Abstract
Electrochemical co-deposition approach was expanded to prepare composite bio-ceramic coating of hydroxyapatite (HA)/polyvinyl acetate on the surface of titanium. The role is to improve the bioactive and crystallization properties. The results of XRD, XPS, SEM and TEM characterization showed that by increasing amount of vinyl acetate in the composite bio-ceramic coating before and after immersing in the simulated body fluid (SBF), an oriented growth of HA planes on the (0 0 2) direction had been observed on titanium substrate. Also significant surface morphology changes were obtained

Abstract
The adhesion and mechanical properties of hydrogels used for vascular wound repair often deteriorate dramatically on wet surfaces, resulting in ineffective repair. In this work, a poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide-co-dopamine methacrylamide) nanogel with dopamine groups was synthesized and introduced into a polyacrylamide (PAAm) hydrogel to produce temperature-responsive hydrogels, which greatly improved mechanical and adhesive properties of PAAm hydrogels. Nanogel-reinforced PAAm (NR-PAAm hydrogel) can adhere to the surface of various solid materials and biological tissues through special physical interactions, which exhibited different mechanical and adhesion properties as temperature changes...

Abstract
Traditional fluorescence switching molecules achieving the state change between on and off states commonly based on UV irradiation. However, it is worth noting that UV irradiation is harmful to both the cancer cells and the normal cells. To achieve fluorescence switching under visible wavelength and avoid complicate molecular design, a fluorophore of 2,4,5,6-tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-1,3-dicyanobenzene (4CzIPN) and a quencher of diarylethene (DAE) were physically incorporated within the biocompatible block copolymer poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)-b-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLGA-b-PEG) to form 4CzIPN-DAE nanoparticles (NPs) through flash nanoprecipitation (FNP). By using the FNP method, the NPs...

Abstract
Pesticides are widely used to increase agricultural productivity, however, weak adhesion and deposition lead to low efficient utilization. Herein, we prepare a nanopesticide formulation (tebuconazole nanopesticides) which is leaf-adhesive, and water-dispersed via a rapid nanoparticle precipitation method, flash nanoprecipitation, using temperature-responsive copolymers poly-(2-(dimethylamino)ethylmethylacrylate)-b-poly(ε-caprolactone) as the carrier. Compared with commercial suspensions, the encapsulation by the polymer improves the deposition of TEB, and the contact angle on foliage is lowered by 40.0°. Due to the small size and strong van der Waals interactions, the anti-washing efficiency...

Abstract
Structural and dynamic properties of ions confined in nanoslits are crucial to understand the fundamental mechanism underlying a wide range of chemical and biological phenomena. K + and Cl - show similar ion mobilities in a bulk aqueous solution, whereas they exhibit a remarkable difference when transporting through an angstrom-scale channel. Our molecular dynamics simulations uncover that such discrepancy originates from the subtle differences in their hydration structures and preferable locations across the channel. Opposite charge causes different water dipolar orientations around ions, mediating the distance and tribological interactions between hydrated ions and channel's walls....

Abstract
Photoimmunotherapy by photodynamic therapy (PDT) induces immunogenic cell death (ICD), providing anti-tumor treatment in a safe, precise, minimally invasive way. However, PDT-demanded massive oxygen consumption exacerbates the hypoxia and creates an acidic tumor microenvironment (TME), leading to an anaerobic glycolysis and immune escape condition. In this study, a natural anti-tumor resveratrol (RSV) nanodrug was introduced via Fe3+ coordination flash nanoprecipitation (cFNP) for enhanced aqueous solubility to specifically downregulate the expression of Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) and lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA), reduce the glucose resorption and lactate production, tipping the cellular...

Abstract
Limited regeneration capacity of cartilage can be addressed by tissue engineering approaches including localized delivery of bioactive agents using biomaterials. Although chitosan hydrogels have been considered as appropriate candidates for these purposes, however, their poor mechanical properties limit their real applications. Here, we develop in situ forming chitosan hydrogels with enhanced shear modulus by chemical modification of chitosan using N-(β-maleimidopropyloxy) succinimide ester (BMPS). Moreover, we utilize β-Glycerophosphate (β-GP) in the hydrogels for achieving thermosensitivity. We investigate the effects of BMPS, β-GP and chitosan concentration on rheological and swelling...

Abstract
Ionic liquids, which are designable and nonvolatile, have become a hot topic in the field of CO2 separation from industrial gases. In order to utilize the nonvolatile and low heat capacity of ionic liquids, it is necessary to solve the problem of high viscosity of pure ionic liquids. In the present study, ether functionalized pyridinium ion [E1Py]+ with good biodegradability and low viscosity was selected as cation. Ions containing cyano groups were used as anions, such as thiocyanate ion [SCN]-, dicyanamide ion [N(CN)2]-, tricyanomethanide ion [C(CN)3]-. Three ionic liquids with low viscosity were synthesized and characterized by 1HNMR, 13CNMR and FTIR. The physiochemical properties of...

Abstract
Pesticides are indispensable in agricultural development, but their effectiveness is often hindered by natural factors like rain-off and degradation. Herein, tebuconazole nanopesticides (TEB NPs) with leaf-adhesive, water-stable, and small-sized were successfully prepared by flash nanoprecipitation using the biodegradable polyethylene glycol-b-poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) as a carrier. The nanopesticides could be efficiently deposited on plant leaves with uniform distribution and exhibited a 14° lower contact angle with foliage compared to commercial suspensions. The encapsulation of TEB within the polymer enhanced its resistance to photolysis, resulting in a 5-h extension of its...

Abstract
This work focused on the design of new pH-responsive nanoparticles for controlled delivery of anticancer drug doxorubicin (Dox). Nanoparticles of poly(methacrylic acid)-polysorbate 80-grafted starch (PMAA-PS 80-g-St) were synthesized by using a one-pot method that enabled simultaneous grafting of PMAA and PS 80 onto starch and nanoparticle formation in an aqueous medium. The particles were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, TEM, DLS, and potentiometric titration. Dox loading and in vitro release from the nanoparticles were investigated. The FTIR and 1H NMR confirmed the chemical composition of the graft terpolymer. The nanoparticles were relatively spherical with narrow size distribution and...

Abstract
In the presented research, vibrational, and amplitude behaviors of a sandwich spinning disk made of two laminated layers and graphene nanoplatelets reinforced composite (GPLRC) core has been reported. The Coriolis and centrifugal impacts have been taken into account due to its rotational feature. The stresses and strains have been obtained through the high-order shear deformable theory (HSDT). The structure’s boundary conditions (BCs) are determined using laminated rotating disk’s governing equations employing energy methods and ultimately have been solved via a computational approach called generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM). The rotational disk’s vibrations with different...

Abstract
Dye-sensitized upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) have gained significant interest in biological applications. However, previous attempts to utilize these dye-sensitized UCNPs in the aqueous environment suffer from dramatic decline in the upconversion luminescence (UCL) intensity and problems with nanoparticles aggregation and water quenching. By employing indocyanine green (ICG) as a hydrophobic amplifier and energy harvester for UCNPs, we use a general, facile, and kinetically controlled mixing technology—flash nanoprecipitation (FNP)—to prepare aqueous stable ICG-sensitized UCNPs encapsulated by a biocompatible block copolymer poly (ethylene glycol)-b-poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid...

Abstract
Over the last decades, several approaches have been proposed in the literature to incorporate users' perceptions of travel costs, their bounded rationality, and risk-taking behaviors into network equilibrium modeling for traffic assignment problem. While theoretically advanced, these models often suffer from high complexity and computational cost and often involve parameters that are difficult to estimate. This study proposes an alternative approach where users' imprecise perceptions of travel times are endogenously constructed as fuzzy sets based on the probability distributions of random link travel times. Two decision rules are proposed accordingly to account for users' heterogeneous...
