    Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) decorated with Cu2O particles were grown on a Ni catalyst layer deposited on a Cu substrate by thermal chemical vapor deposition from liquid petroleum gas. Ni catalyst nanoparticles with different sizes were produced in an electroplating system at 45 °C using the corrosive effect of H2SO4 which was added to solution. These nanoparticles provide the nucleation sites for CNT growth avoiding the need for a buffer layer. The surface morphology of the Ni catalyst films and CNT growth over this catalyst was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). High temperature surface segregation of the Cu substrate into the Ni catalyst layer and its exposition to O2 at...

    Abstract
A hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) method was used to prepare Fe-Cr thin film on Si substrate. The produced layers were used as catalysts for growing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from liquid petroleum gas (LPG) at 825 °C by thermal CVD (TCVD) method. To characterize the obtained catalysts or CNTs, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Raman spectroscopy were used. CNTs were grown on HFCVD derived Fe-Cr catalyst with the LPG as carbon source successfully. It was found that an annealing process on catalysts enhances the surface concentration of Cr atoms and reduces the sizes of catalyst particles. The...

    Abstract
The effect of substrate thickness and its Debye temperature on the bolometric response of the freestanding-membrane type of superconductor transition-edge detectors is investigated. The investigation is based on the calculation of the variation of the specific heat per unit volume and the heat conductivity using the finite-size scaling method for different Debye temperatures and micron size thickness of substrate. We also calculated the heat capacity and time constant for various materials with Debye temperatures in the range of 600-1400 K. The calculated results are compared with previously reported response values obtained theoretically and experimentally for the thermal-based infrared...

    Abstract
In this study a hot filament chemical vapour deposition (HFCVD) technique was used to prepare Fe-Cr films on Si substrate as catalysts for thermal CVD (TCVD) growing of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from liquid petroleum gas (LPG) at 800 °C. To characterize the catalysts or CNTs, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Raman spectroscopy were used. The XPS spectra obtained at different stages of Ar+ sputtering revealed that in the depth of catalyst layers, the relative Fe-Cr concentrations are higher than the top-surface. SEM images of samples after TCVD indicate a significant CNT growing at the backside of catalyst...

    Abstract
TCVD growth of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was reported by catalytic decomposition of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at a temperature range of 580800 °C. Laser ablation was employed as a simple and rapid technique to produce Pd nanoparticles which possess effective catalytic activities for CNT synthesis. UVvisible spectroscopy and TEM images confirmed that the Pd nanoparticles are stable for a long time and have rather spherical shape with average size of 7 nm. SEM and TEM observations and Raman spectroscopy demonstrated that the CNTs have a wavy structure, dense morphology and acceptable crystallinity. Since Pd nanoparticles are inactivated or agglomerated at extremes of the...

    Abstract
The visible band (band A) of photoluminescence spectra of high-purity synthesized diamond is analyzed by the deconvolution technique. A set of eight lines with distinct peak energies are found. The peak energy and the width of these lines were either constant or varied very slightly with temperature. The amplitude of the lines are significantly temperature dependent. The closeness of the temperature at which the amplitudes of these lines reach their minimum to the temperature at which the free-exiton emission is maximum, is an indication of the competition between these two effects

The optical response in the range of near infrared and the noise characteristics of the patterned bolometer are measured and analyzed. The dependence of device sensitivity on the bias current and modulation frequency is also investigated. As it is presented in this paper, the results...

    Abstract
The infrared range optical absorption mechanism of carbon-copper composite thin layer coated on the diamond-like carbon buffer layer has been investigated. By consideration of weak interactions between copper nanoparticles in their network, optical absorption is modelled using their coherent dipole behaviour induced by the electromagnetic radiation. The copper nanoparticles in the bulk of carbon are assumed as a chain of plasmonic dipoles, which have coupling resonance. Considering nearest neighbour interactions for this metallic nanoparticles, surface plasmon resonance frequency (ω 0) and coupled plasmon resonance frequency (ω 1) have been computed. The damping rate against wavelength is...

    Abstract
Using a generalized Hubbard Hamiltonian, many-electron wavefunctions of negatively charged (NV -) and neutral nitrogen-vacancy (NV 0) centers in diamond were calculated. We report the effect of symmetric relaxation of surrounding atoms on the spin density, calculated from the many electron wavefunctions in the ground and excited states. We evaluated the error, that, arises in estimation of spin density when lattice relaxation effect is neglected in Electron Paramagnetic Resonance experiment and showed that the ground state spin density distribution is accessible in outward relaxations. The computed oscillator strengths give a higher efficiency for the 1.945 eV photoluminescence (PL) line of...

    Abstract
Ni-Si mixed oxide nanocomposite was prepared by co-precipitation method with Ni(NO 3) 2 ·6H 2O and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) at pH = 10.5 under reflux condition for 6 days. It was then used as a catalyst for the formation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by CVD procedure. Characterization of the catalyst and the CNTs was carried out using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy. Abstract
Many-body wavefunctions were utilized to calculate von Neumann's entropy as an entanglement measurement for neutral and negatively charged nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond. A generalized Hubbard Hamiltonian which considers e-e interaction terms completely was used to calculate many-electron wavefunctions of the ground and excited states. Correlation between entanglement and spin density distributed on neighboring atoms of NV is presented. The behavior of spin density and entanglement under relaxations of neighboring atoms is the same for all investigated ground and excited states. The results suggest that the spin density may be used to quantify the entanglemnt and vice versa

    Abstract
Epitaxial cerium oxide (CeO2) buffer layer has been grown on lanthanum aluminate (LAO) single crystal substrates for fabrication of c-axis oriented YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO). Precursor solution of cerium acetylacetonates with viscosity of 0.6 centipoises was spin coated on the 1×1 cm area LAO substrates. The calcination was carried out by very slow ramp (1°C per minute) until the final temperature of 500°C in oxygen flow to remove most of the organic compounds. The final heat treatment has been done at 780°C by a ramp of 20° per minute in gas flow of mixed argon-oxygen with 5 Pa partial pressure of oxygen. The thickness of the deposited CeO2 buffer layer was 20 nm. Then, 100 nm thick YBCO film was...

CO gas sensor properties of Cu@CuO core-shell nanoparticles based on localized surface plasmon resonance

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 115, Issue 45 , 2011 , Pages 22126-22130 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Ghodselahi, T ; Zahrabi, H ; Saani, M. H ; Vesaghi, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Hexagonal array of Cu@CuO core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) on the a-C:H thin film was prepared by codeposition of RF-sputtering and RF-PECVD. The trace of hexagonal NPs supperlattice was recognized by AFM image and XRD result. On the basis of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of core-shell NPs, the prepared array detected a low flow rate of CO gas at room temperature. XPS results indicate that the surface of Cu@CuO core-shell NPs have no chemical reaction with CO molecule. The physical absorption of CO molecule on the surface of Cu@CuO core-shell NPs increases the LSPR absorbance and causes a red shift in LSPR wavelength. These experimental results are in agreement with Mie theory...

Jahn-Teller Effect in Diamond Vacancy Under Stress

    , M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology monfared, Mohammad (Author) ; Vesaghi, M. A (Supervisor) ; Babamoradi, M (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Electron states of diamond vacancy under stress were studied theoretically. The generalized Hubbard model is used to calculate the electrons energy levels. The results shows that the degeneracy of some levels (T, with triple space degeneracy) reduced to levels with lower degeneracy (E, with double space degeneracy and A, without degeneracy). Besides this spiting of degeneracy the energy of all states changed and therefore the transition energy between these states changed too. Jahn-Teller effect was observed

    Abstract
The relationship between unpaired electron delocalization and nearest-neighbor atomic relaxations in the vacancies of diamond has been determined in order to understand the microscopic reason behind the neighboring atomic relaxation. The Density Functional Theory (DFT) cluster method is applied to calculate the single-electron wavefunction of the vacancy in different charge states. Depending on the charge and spin state of the vacancies, at outward relaxations, 84-90% of the unpaired electron densities are localized on the first neighboring atoms. The calculated spin localizations on the first neighboring atoms in the ground state of the negatively charged vacancy and in the spin quintet...
