Study of the Effect of Central Beam Column (CBC) Structure on Sequential Excavation of Large Span Underground Station
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Effect of utilizing Central Beam Column (CBC) structure on shallow, large span underground spaces excavation is studied. The CBC method focuses on increasing the overall rigidity of tunnel supporting system prior to full face excavation, in which central drift excavation is limited to the dimensions of the central beam and column to reduce disturbances. Constructing the central beam and column structure, the excavation is completed with NATM excavation method in a symmetric manner about centerline. In CBC method on each side of the centerline there is an arch structure composed of the initial lining resting on roof beam on top and bottom beam at the invert. The roof and bottom beams take the...

Abstract
Non-linear loads such as rectifiers are growing in industry. Three phase inverter with non-linear load can lead to highly distorted output voltage. This paper proposes a method for reducing voltage THD in three phase inverters with non-linear load. The proposed method considers the load current as a disturbance and provide a control strategy to reject it using the disturbance observer method. This method doesn't need any additional sensors or hardware and is implemented digitally in controller. Simulation results show that the presented method will reduce the total harmonic distortion of the output voltage. © 2017 IEEE

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Tahami, Farzad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Three-phase inverters as a UPS are very common in industry and non-linear loads such as rectifiers are growing in industry. Three phase inverter with non-linear load can lead to highly distorted output voltage which can make problem for sensitive loads such as servers etc. Parallel configuration of three-phase inverters, also have the same problem with non-linear loads. Droop control and Master/slave control methods are two major methods which investigated in this thesis. This paper proposes a method for reducing voltage THD in three phase inverters with non-linear load. The proposed method considers the load current as a disturbance and provide a control strategy to reject it using the...
Fixed-Mix Rules in an Evolutionary Market Using a Factor Model for Dividends
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, we simulate the competition between some investment strategies based on dividends with each other and with mean-variance strategy (Markowitz) in an evolutionary finance framework. We perform simulations by two different approaches. In the first one, we use real dividend data and, in the second one we use dividends that are generated according to a dividend factor model. The dividend factor model which relates the dividends to the macro-economic factors is estimated from data using principal component analysis. Our simulations show that in this competition, the evolutionary portfolio rule will eventually hold the total market wealth. According to this simple rule the portfolio...
Evaluation of the Effects of Principal Stress Direction on Dynamic Properties of Unsaturated Sand by Hollow Cylinder Apparatus
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jafarzadeh, Fardin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Soils have an anisotropic response, and mechanical and dynamic properties of this material are greatly dependent on the direction and magnitude of principal stresses. A reliable assessment of the soil behavior and a good estimation of the soil parameters need to perform tests in similar condition with in-situ. From all the devices used for studying anisotropy of soils, hollow cylinder apparatus is the only apparatus that enables an independent control of both the direction and magnitude of the principal stresses. Moreover, one of the most controversial topics in the unsaturated soil dynamics is determining the shear modulus and damping ratio which are used for assessing many geotechnical...
Molecular dynamics investigation of β-SiC behavior under three-axial tensile loading [electronic resource]
, Article Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nanoscience ; November 2011, Volume 8, Number 11, PP. 2187-2192 ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Besharati-Givi, M.K ; Rajabpour, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were used to study the mechanical behaviour of β-SiC at nano-scale under tensile loading. Effects of loading rate and tensile temperature on the mechanical properties and failure were studied. Modified embedded-atom method (MEAM) potential and Berendsen thermostat were utilized for modelling. Periodic boundary conditions were employed and the behaviour of material was analyzed under three-axial loading condition at which the stress–strain relation was acceptably size independent. It is shown that with increasing the loading rate from 5 m/s to 70 m/s, the failure strain increases without a remarkable change in the stress–strain relationship. The MD...
Experimental Study of Mass Ratio and Carbon Nono Tube Size on Impact Toughness in Composite Polymers
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hosseini Kordkheili, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, composites have wide applications in different industries especially in aerospace industry because of their high strength to weight ratio. Epoxy 5052 for its relatively good mechanical properties and high thermal resistance has vaidly use for manufacturing of large composite components. However; fracture toghness of epoxy resins is not good in comparison to their other exceptional properties. Therefore, researchers have endeavored to improve this characteristic with different approaches. One of these methods is nanotechnology. Since the components in aerospace industry are often under impact loads and impact strength of these materials has been less studied, effect of carbon...

Abstract
In this paper, a novel beyond-diagonal RIS (BD-RIS) is suggested an architecture to improve the spectral efficiency (SE) of wireless communication systems. We use deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to solve the joint design problem of the RIS phase shift matrix and BS beamforming to maximize the SE. In addition to the phase of each element, we also optimize the position of non-diagonal elements in the RIS phase shift matrix. Simulation results show that the proposed BD- RIS architecture with DRL outperforms the conventional diagonal RIS (D-RIS) architecture with DRL in terms of SE. We also investigate the effect of the number of quantization bits on the performance of the DRL algorithm. We...

Abstract
Heterogeneous networks (HetNets) provide the demand for high data rates. In this study, we analyze the coexistence of femtocells and device-to-device (D2D) communication with macrocells. Interference management and decreasing energy consumption are two important issues in HetNets. To this end, we propose an efficient fractional frequency reuse (FFR)-based spectrum partitioning scheme to reduce the cross-tier interference. We also propose to use different optimization problems for resource allocation in different tiers. For this purpose, an energy efficient optimization problem is applied to D2D user equipment. Further, an optimization problem based on the spectral efficiency, i.e.,...

Abstract
Fast and accurate methods for spectrum sensing (SS) are the key elements in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) that achieve high SS. This paper proposes a reinforcement learning (RL) scheme for secondary users (SUs) in a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) CRN to determine occupation and emptiness of scanned wideband channels. In the proposed H-learning method, the clustered neighboring SUs collect data to check the status of channels that improve reliability of measured sensing. Then, they share information about different frequency channels with other clusters and the status of channel occupation is determined for all SUs. This model-based learning method increases finding free...

Abstract
Determination of soil shear modulus is one of the most controversial topics in unsaturated soil dynamics. Due to the fact that soils have an anisotropic response, the shear strength and stiffness of geological materials are greatly dependent on the principal stress direction and the intermediate principal stress. In this study, the effects of principal stress direction on shear modulus of unsaturated medium-dense sand have been investigated using cyclic hollow cylinder apparatus. Three series of stress-controlled cyclic tests with different fixed principal stress directions were carried out on the sand sample under different values of suction. Results reveal that shear modulus of unsaturated...

Abstract
The current state of device-to-device (D2D) communication in the presence of cellular network addresses two major challenges of interference as well as throughput inadequacy. Specifically, a D2D communication underlaying fractional frequency reuse (FFR) cellular network exhibits rather high interferences due to higher occurrence of band crossing within a shared spectrum. However, due to the considerable impact of D2D communications on spectral efficiency and system capacity, the remedy for those issues may include efficient techniques of interference mitigation and average spectral efficiency maximization. In this paper, we propose a resource block (RB) allocation scheme to reduce the...

Abstract
Friction stir welding (FSW) parameters, such as tool material, tool geometry, tilt angle, tool rotational speed, welding speed, and axial force play a major role in the weld quality of titanium alloys. Because of excessive erosion, tool material and geometry play the main roles in FSW of titanium alloys. Therefore, in the present work for the first time, tool material and geometry, tool tilt angle, cooling system and shielding gas effects on macrostructure, microstructure, and mechanical properties of pure titanium weld joint were investigated. Result of this research shows that Ti can be joined by the FSW, using a tool with a shoulder made of tungsten (W) and simple pin made of tungsten...

Abstract
Device-to-Device (D2D) communication technology, under the standardization of third generation partnership project and a component of the evolving fifth generation architecture, is mainly aimed to increase system capacity and data rate via providing direct communications between end devices without the use of routing data through the network. Apart from the attracting features, due to the resource sharing between cellular user equipment (CUE) and D2D user equipment (DUE) in such communications, an efficient algorithm for resource and power allocation to DUE, especially for mobile users is necessary to maintain the performance. The current paper introduces a joint mode algorithm for mobile...

Abstract
In this paper, we propose heterogeneous network (HetNet) with mmWave and hybrid non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and orthogonal multiple access (OMA) transmission, where uplink (UL) of macrocell users (MCUs) and downlink (DL) of small cell users (SCUs) share the same resource block (RB) to increase the network capacity. Also, an imperfect successive interference cancelation (I-SIC) decoding is considered due to hardware impairment of the real-world NOMA systems. We formulate the problem of joint power and resource block (RB) allocation to maximize rate-fairness and sum-rate by considering minimum quality of service (QoS) requirements. Reinforcement learning (RL) named Q-learning (QL)...
