Semantic video analysis and automatic concept extraction play an important role in several application including designing content-based search engines, video indexing, and video summarization. Since constructing an appropriate summarized video requires extraction of internal video concepts, video summarization is considered as an application of semantic analysis. In the first stage, the shot boundaries are detected, then using the hidden Markov model (HMM), the video is segmented into larger semantic units, called “play-break” sequences. In this paper, learning of tree-structured Gaussian graphical models from distributed data is addressed. In our model, samples are stored in a set of distributed machines where each machine has access to only a subset of features. A central machine is then responsible for learning the structure based on received messages from the other nodes. We present a set of communication-efficient strategies, which are theoretically proved to convey sufficient information for reliable learning of the structure. It is of fundamental importance to find algorithms obtaining optimal performance for learning of statistical models in distributed and communication limited systems. Aiming at characterizing the optimal strategies, we consider learning of Gaussian Processes (GP) in distributed systems as a pivotal example. We first address a very basic problem: how many bits are required to estimate the inner-products of some Gaussian vectors across distributed machines? A central machine is interested in estimating the underlying structure of a sparse Gaussian Graphical Model (GGM) from a dataset distributed across multiple local machines. The local machines can communicate with the central machine through a wireless multiple access channel. Karyotype is a genetic test that is used for detection of chromosomal defects. In a karyotype test, an image is captured from chromosomes during the cell division. The captured images are then analyzed by cytogeneticists in order to detect possible chromosomal defects. In this paper, we have proposed an automated pipeline for analysis of karyotype images. There are three main steps for karyotype image analysis: image enhancement, image segmentation and chromosome classification. In this paper we explore the existence of periodic solutions of a nonautonomous semi-ratio-dependent predator-prey dynamical system with functional responses on time scales. To illustrate the utility of this work, we should mention that, in our results this system with a large class of monotone functional responses, always has at least one periodic solution.
