New accretion constraint on the evaporation of primordial black holes

    , Article Physical Review D ; Volume 107, Issue 8 , 2023 ; 24700010 (ISSN) Tabasi, S. S ; Berahman, M ; Firouzjaee, J. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    American Physical Society  2023
    Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the processes of evaporation and accretion of primordial black holes during the radiation-dominated era and the matter-dominated era. This subject is very important since usually these two processes are considered independent of each other. In other words, previous works consider them in such a way that they do not have a direct effect on each other, and as a result, their effects on the mass of primordial black holes are calculated separately. The calculations of this paper indicate that assuming these two processes independent of each other will lead to wrong results that only give correct answers within certain limits. In fact, in general, it is a mistake to...

A new constraint on the simulation of the intergalactic medium through the evolution of the neutral hydrogen fraction in the epoch of reionization

    , Article Astrophysical Journal ; Volume 959, Issue 2 , 2023 ; 0004637X (ISSN) Hosseini, M ; Soleimanpour Salmasi, B ; Tabasi, S ; Firouzjaee, J. T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The thermal history of the intergalactic medium is full of extremely useful data in the field of astrophysics and cosmology. In other words, by examining this environment in different redshifts, the effects of cosmology and astrophysics can be observed side by side. Therefore, simulation is a very powerful tool to reach a suitable model for the intergalactic medium, both in terms of cosmology and astrophysics. In this work, we have simulated the intergalactic medium with the help of the 21cmFAST code and compared the evolution of the neutral hydrogen fraction in different initial conditions. Considerable works have arbitrarily determined many important effective parameters in the thermal...

    Abstract
Performances of small- and large-pore, porous graphene nanomembranes (PGNMs) (pristine and functionalized by amide, sulfonic acid, thiourea, and carbamate functional groups) for purification of heavy metal ions and nitrate-contaminated wastewater were determined using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. At the operational conditions of the simulated membrane (150 and 0.1 MPa pressure on the left and right piston sides at 300 K), higher water flow rates were obtained in the functionalized PGNMs possessing large pores, as opposed to the non-functionalized and small-pore ones. Amide-functionalized PGNM provided the highest flow rate (380 and 330 molecules/ns for large and small pores,...

Detecting Primordial Black Holes with the Help of 21-cm Cosmology

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tabasi, Sajad (Author) ; Baghram, Shant (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The existence of primordial black holes has been proposed for about half a century, but so far we have not been able to have convincing observations to prove the existence of such black holes. With the discovery of gravitational waves, hopes for finding primordial black holes have increased again; So that in recent years, different ways have been proposed to reveal them. This matter becomes even more important when we know that these black holes can explain all or at least part of the missing matter of the universe known as dark matter. One of the proposed ways is to investigate the 21 cm line of hydrogen in the intergalactic medium. Over time, the temperature of the intergalactic medium is...

    Abstract
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with a high prevalence of psychiatric disorders. There are specific brain networks responsible for emotional processes, including two important networks associated with psychiatric problems: the default mode network (DMN), which is more active in the resting state, and the salience network (SN), which is structurally connected to DMN. Although previous studies suggested that neuro-phenotypes of asthma may be recognizable by the neural activity of brain circuits, an association between the brain's functional alterations and psychiatric impairments induced by asthma remains unknown. We aimed to assess DMN and SN activity and its association...

Creating a Protective Coating Against Corrosion and Erosion on the Surface of the Parts using in Sour Environments

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasemi Tabasi, Hossein (Author) ; Kokabi, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A concern in the production sour oil and gas is the corrosion caused by the acid gas H2S. Even though corrosion resistant alloys (CRA) have long been available as a material selection option that mitigates H2S corrosion, the carbon steel is in general more cost-effective for oil and gas facilities. The aim of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties of 410NiMo cladding on a low alloy steel substrate. In this investigation, two successive layers of ER410NiMo were clad on low alloy steel substrates. To reduce the likelihood of Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) and producing stable hydrogen traps, Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) was used. To characterize the mechanical properties of...

Modeling the central supermassive black hole mass of quasars via the lstm approach

    , Article Astrophysical Journal ; Volume 954, Issue 2 , 2023 ; 0004637X (ISSN) Tabasi, S ; Vojoudi Salmani, R ; Khaliliyan, P ; Taghizadeh Firouzjaee, J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Institute of Physics  2023
    Abstract
One of the fundamental questions about quasars is related to their central supermassive black holes. The reason for the existence of these black holes with such a huge mass is still unclear, and various models have been proposed to explain them. However, there is still no comprehensive explanation that is accepted by the community. The only thing we are sure of is that these black holes were not created by the collapse of giant stars or the accretion of matter around them. Moreover, another important question is related to the mass distribution of these black holes over time. Observations have shown that if we go back through redshift, we see black holes with more mass, and after passing the...

Allergic rhinitis impairs working memory in association with drop of hippocampal – Prefrontal coupling

    , Article Brain Research ; Volume 1758 , 2021 ; 00068993 (ISSN) Salimi, M ; Ghazvineh, S ; Nazari, M ; Dehdar, K ; Garousi, M ; Zare, M ; Tabasi, F ; Jamaati, H ; Salimi, A ; Barkley, V ; Mirnajafi Zadeh, J ; Raoufy, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a chronic inflammatory disease frequently associated with a deficit in learning and memory. Working memory is an important system for decision making and guidance, which depends on interactions between the ventral hippocampus (vHipp) and the prelimbic prefrontal cortex (plPFC). It is still unclear whether AR influences the activity and coupling of these brain areas, which consequently may impair working memory. The current study aimed to examine alterations of the vHipp-plPFC circuit in a rat model of AR. Our results show decreased working memory performance in AR animals, accompanied by a reduction of theta and gamma oscillations in plPFC. Also, AR reduces...

Improving the Security Level of Encrypted Traffic

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fani Tabasi, Farzam (Author) ; Jalili, Rasool (Supervisor) ; Bayat-Sarmadi, Siavash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Common privacy enhancing technologies fail to effectively hide the certain statistical aspects of encrypted traffic, namely individual packets length, packets direction and, packets timing. Recent researches have shown that using such traffic attributes, an adversary is able to extract various information from the encrypted traffic such as the visited website, used protocol or even spoken language. Such attacks in general are called traffic analysis attacks. Proposed countermeasure try to change the distribution of such features in users traffic but either they fail to effectively reduce the accuracy of that attacker or do so while enforcing a high degree of bandwidth overhead and timing...

    Abstract
Learning a foreign language encompasses a process of trial and error that can lead to the progression of the learner's interlanguage, meaning that the learners make use of their language knowledge that receives feedback and brings about progress through diagnosis of the problems and being corrected by the teacher. Therefore, there exists a need to analyze the underlying reasons causing the students to remain taciturn with a low willingness to communicate (WTC) during a language class. There has been much work done investigating the role of the learner's stable personal characteristics (traits) along with their situational changes at a specific time (states) that influence the student's...

Design and development of a miniaturized roto-translational motion platform for microaerial vehicle identification

    , Article IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine ; Volume 39, Issue 12 , 2024 , Pages 24-35 ; 08858985 (ISSN) Abdollahi, M. R ; Pourtakdoust, S. H ; Mousavi, S. M. S
    IEEE  2024
    Abstract
Accurate system identification (SI) is essential for flight controller design of unmanned aerial vehicles and microaerial vehicles (MAVs). SI can be performed either in frequency or time domain using flight test data. As flight testing is often costly and may even lead to catastrophic events before some flight stability analysis is at hand, a low-cost 5 degree-of-freedom free motion platform (FMP) is designed and used for initial identification of MAVs via wind tunnel testing. A typical MAV is constructed as a test case and equipped with inertial sensors for testing and validation purposes. The proposed FMP allows for both rotational as well as translational motions that in turn provide for...

    Abstract
Uncertainty is a critical factor in medical datasets needed to be overcome for increasing diagnosis efficiency. This paper proposes an intelligent classification algorithm comprising a fuzzy rule-based approach, a harmony search (HS) algorithm, and a heuristic algorithm to classify medical datasets intelligently. Two fuzzy approaches, as well as orthogonal and triangular fuzzy sets, are first utilized to define the attributes of data. Then, an HS algorithm is integrated with a heuristic to generate fuzzy rules to select the best rules in the fuzzy rule-based systems. Moreover, to improve the performance of the proposed classification approach, a three-phase parameter tuning approach is...

    Abstract
Shared hosting is a kind of web hosting in which multiple websites reside on one webserver. It is cost-effective and makes the administration easier for websites' owners. However, shared hosting has some performance and security issues. In default shared hosting configuration, all websites' scripts are executed under the webserver's user account regardless of their owners. Therefore, a website is able to access other websites' resources. This security problem arises from lack of proper isolation between different websites hosted on the same webserver. In this survey, we have examined different methods for handling mentioned security issue. Also we evaluated the performance of mentioned...

    Abstract
The major section of the city of Tehran, Iran has been developed on cemented coarse-grained alluvium. This deposit consists of gravely sand to sandy gravel with some cobbles and is dominantly cemented by carbonaceous materials. In order to understand the mechanical behaviour of this soil, a series of undrained triaxial compression tests and unconfined compression tests were performed on uncemented and artificially cemented samples. Portland cement type I was used as the cementation agent for preparing artificially cemented samples. Uncemented samples and lightly cemented samples (1.5% cement) tested at high confining pressure showed contractive behaviour accompanied with positive excess pore...

An imperialist competitive algorithm approach for multi-objective optimization of direct coupling photovoltaic-electrolyzer systems

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Vol. 39, Issue 33 , 11 November , 2014 , pp. 18743-18757 ; ISSN: 03603199 Maroufmashat, A ; Sayedin, F ; Khavas, S. S

    Abstract
In the context of sustainable clean hydrogen production pathways, photovoltaic-electrolyzer systems are one of the most promising alternatives for acquiring hydrogen from renewable energy sources. In fact, determining the optimal set of design and operating variables are always a key issue while coupling directly renewable electricity sources to PEM electrolyzers. Few previous studies have attempted to find the optimal size and operational condition of directly coupled photovoltaic-electrolyzer (PV/El) systems in order to maximize the hydrogen production or to minimize energy transfer loss between photovoltaic devices and the electrolyzer. Nevertheless an easy and efficient approach still...

Kalman filter based packet loss replacement in presence of additive noise

    , Article 2012 25th IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering: Vision for a Greener Future, CCECE 2012 ; 2012 ; 9781467314336 (ISBN) Miralavi, S. R ; Ghorshi, S ; Tahaei, A
    2012
    Abstract
A major problem in real-time packet-based communication systems, is misrouted or delayed packets which results in degraded perceived voice quality. If packets are not available on time, the packets are considered as lost. The easiest solution in a network terminal receiver is to replace silence for the duration of lost speech segments. In a high quality communication system, to avoid degradation in speech quality due to packet loss, a suitable method or algorithm is needed to replace the missing segments of speech. In this paper, we introduce an adaptive filter for replacement of lost speech segment. In this method Kalman filter as a state-space based method will be used to predict the...
