    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 19, Issue 6 , December , 2012 , Pages 1626-1631 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Tabaei, H. S. M ; Kazemeini, M ; Fattahi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Dye sensitizers loaded on TiO2 decrease the electron excitation energy, thereby improving the photocatalytic performance by causing an increase in sensitivity under visible light irradiation. Three dye sensitizer precursors, Mordant Orange 1, N3 (red dye) and Cobalt (II) Phthalocyanine Tetrasulfonate (CoPcTs), were utilized to load the photocatalyst. The rate of the electron trapping process on platinum is clearly compatible with the migration rate of boundary electrons. Consequently, the migration of boundary electrons from the conduction band towards electron acceptors is increased by loading platinum onto the titanium dioxide. In this research, TiO2 was synthesized from a titanium...

    Abstract
Enterocytozoon bieneusi is one of the most prevalent microsporidia species, responsible for more than 90% of human and animal microsporidiosis. Microsporidia species, particularly E. bieneusi, are frequently reported from waterborne and foodborne outbreaks. Therefore, early detection is crucial in clinics and outbreak investigations. This study aimed to design a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) for rapid detection of E. bieneusi. Total DNA was extracted from 30 E. bieneusi –positive samples, which had been confirmed with nested PCR. LAMP primers were designed based on the identical fragment of small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene. LAMP reactions were performed at 63 °C...

    Abstract
Advancements in material science and engineering, especially in the field of porous nanomaterials lead to new types of therapeutics and technologies. Among different types of porous nanomaterials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have been considered the most promising inorganic nanomaterials due to their significant stability and ease of functionalization. To date, very limited research has been done on developing nanocomposites based on MOFs and MXenes. The current experiment has been performed to design a novel UiO-66 MOF and MXene nanocomposite, modified with Rosmarinus officinalis (RO) leaf extracts for co-delivery of doxorubicin (DOX)/clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic...

Design and development of a miniaturized roto-translational motion platform for microaerial vehicle identification

    , Article IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine ; Volume 39, Issue 12 , 2024 , Pages 24-35 ; 08858985 (ISSN) Abdollahi, M. R ; Pourtakdoust, S. H ; Mousavi, S. M. S

    Abstract
Accurate system identification (SI) is essential for flight controller design of unmanned aerial vehicles and microaerial vehicles (MAVs). SI can be performed either in frequency or time domain using flight test data. As flight testing is often costly and may even lead to catastrophic events before some flight stability analysis is at hand, a low-cost 5 degree-of-freedom free motion platform (FMP) is designed and used for initial identification of MAVs via wind tunnel testing. A typical MAV is constructed as a test case and equipped with inertial sensors for testing and validation purposes. The proposed FMP allows for both rotational as well as translational motions that in turn provide for...

    , Article Macromolecular Research ; January 2005, Volume 13, Issue 1, pp 45-53 Pourjavadi, A. (Ali) ; Aminfazl, M. S ; Hosseinzadeh, H
    Abstract
In this study, a series of highly swelling hydrogels based on sodium alginate (NaAlg) and polymethacrylamide (PMAM) was prepared through free radical polymerization. The graft copolymerization reaction was performed in a homogeneous medium and in the presence of ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator andN,N′-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker. The crosslinked graft copolymer, alginate-graft-polymethacrylamide (Alg-g-PMAM), was then partially hydrolyzed by NaOH solution to yield a hydrogel, hydrolyzed alginate-graft-polymethacrylamide (H-Alg-g-PMAM). During alkaline hydrolysis, the carboxamide groups of Alg-g-PMAM were converted into hydrophilic carboxylate anions. Either the...

    Abstract
The influence of manufacturing parameters such as compacting pressure, heat treatment and microstructure on the static and dynamic properties of Fe-1.75 Ni-1.5 Cu-0.5 Mo-0.6 C was investigated. Wear and fatigue tests were carried out on reciprocate wearing and tension compression mode, respectively. The results show that delamination wear mechanism of sintered steel is similar to that of conventional wrought or cast materials. But, in sintered material, open porosity acts as sites of generation and collection of wear debris or formation of subsurface cracks. Wear rate is decreased and fatigue strength is increased by heat treatment. © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

Minimum control effort trajectory planning and tracking of the CEDRA brachiation robot [electronic resource]

    , Article Robotica ; Robotica / Volume 31 / Issue 07 / October 2013, pp 1119-1129 Meghdari, A. (Ali) ; Lavasan, S. M. H ; Norouz, M ; Rahimi Mousavi, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The control of a brachiation robot has been the primary objective of this study. A brachiating robot is a type of a mobile arm that is capable of moving from branch to branch similar to a long-armed ape. In this paper, to minimize the actuator work, Pontryagin's minimum principle was used to obtain the optimal trajectories for two different problems. The first problem considers “brachiation between fixed branches with different distance and height,” whereas the second problem deals with the “brachiating and catching of a moving target branch”. Theoretical results show that the control effort in the proposed method is reduced by 25% in comparison with the “target dynamics” method which was...

SMART: a scalable mapping and routing technique for power-gating in NoC routers

    , Article 2017 11th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Networks-on-Chip, NOCS 2017, 19 October 2017 through 20 October 2017 ; 2017 ; 9781450349840 (ISBN) Farrokhbakht, H ; Kamali, H. M ; Hessabi, S
    2017
    Abstract
Reducing the size of the technology increases leakage power in Network-on-Chip (NoC) routers drastically. Power-gating, particularly in NoC routers, is one of the most efficient approaches for alleviating the leakage power. Although applying power-gating techniques alleviates NoC power consumption due to high proportion of idleness in NoC routers, since the timing behavior of packets is irregular, even in low injection rates, performance overhead in power-gated routers is significant. In this paper, we present SMART, a Scalable Mapping And Routing Technique, with virtually no area overhead on the network. It improves the irregularity of the timing behavior of packets in order to mitigate...

    Abstract
In a MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radar system, proper design of transmit signal and receive filter is an advantageous tool to improve the detection performance. Thus, in this paper, we consider the problem of transmit code and receive filter design, in order to maximize the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) at the receiver while enforcing a similarity constraint between the transmit space-time code (STC) and a reference STC which has a desirable ambiguity function. We will show that by solving such constrained optimization problem through successive iterations, our proposed method leads to satisfactory results

    Abstract
Most of the publications regarding the maxim covering location problem (MCLP) address the case where the decision is to be made for one period. In this paper, we deal with a rather untouched version of MCLP which is called dynamic MCLP (DMCLP). In order to solve this problem, a simulated annealing (SA) has been presented. The proposed solution algorithm is capable of solving problems with up to 2500 demand nodes and 200 potential facilities with a fair amount of exactness. Our experiments showed that the proposed approach finds solutions with errors less than one percent

    Abstract
The effect of the asymmetric water entry over a submerged part of a ship on the hydrodynamic impact is investigated numerically. A wedge body is considered and the problem is assumed to be two-dimensional. The results of symmetric and asymmetric impacts are compared. The effect is found significant in the numerical simulation. The maximum hydro-dynamic pressure at a heel angle of 10 degrees becomes about 95% more than that of the symmetric entry. The result of the present work proves the importance of asymmetrical hydrodynamic impact loading for structural design of a ship. Besides, the numerical procedure is not limited to a wedge type cross section and it is possible to apply it for any...

RODEO: Robust Outlier Detection via Exposing Adaptive Out-of-Distribution Samples

    , Article Proceedings of Machine Learning Research ; Volume 235 , 2024 , Pages 35744-35778 ; 26403498 (ISSN) Mirzaei, H ; Jafari, M ; Dehbashi, H. R ; Ansari, A ; Ghobadi, S ; Hadi, M ; Moakhar, A. S ; Azizmalayeri, M ; Baghshah, M. S ; Rohban, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2024
    Abstract
In recent years, there have been significant improvements in various forms of image outlier detection. However, outlier detection performance under adversarial settings lags far behind that in standard settings. This is due to the lack of effective exposure to adversarial scenarios during training, especially on unseen outliers, leading to detection models failing to learn robust features. To bridge this gap, we introduce RODEO, a data-centric approach that generates effective outliers for robust outlier detection. More specifically, we show that incorporating outlier exposure (OE) and adversarial training can be an effective strategy for this purpose, as long as the exposed training...

    Abstract
This paper resolve the salinity-dependent interactions of polar components of crude oil at calcite-brine interface in atomic resolution. Molecular dynamics simulations carried out on the present study showed that ordered water monolayers develop immediate to a calcite substrate in contact with a saline solution. Carboxylic compounds, herein represented by benzoic acid (BA), penetrate into those hydration layers and directly linking to the calcite surface. Through a mechanism termed screening effect, development of hydrogen bonding between –COOH functional groups of BA and carbonate groups is inhibited by formation of a positively-charged Na+ layer over CaCO3 surface. Contrary to the common...
