Investigating the Relation of Individualistic/Collectivistic Culture on Constructive thougt Patterns Strategies
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khademi, Mahshid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Self-leadership” is a process through which individuals control their performance and lead themselves by using specific behavioral and cognitive strategies (Manz, 1986; Manz and Neck, 2004). This concept includes a toolkit of behavioral activities borrowed from social cognitive theory and goal setting. It also includes constructive thought processes that have been extensively studied in sports psychology. Scholars have categorized the SL (self-leadership) strategies into three main categories; behavioral, natural reward and constructive thought Strategies. (Neck and Houghton, 2006) Given the growing importance of self-leadership in contemporary organizations operating in an increasingly...

Abstract
The present work describes sensing application of modified TiO 2 nanotubes having carbon-Pt nanoparticles for simultaneous detection of dopamine and uric acid. The TiO 2 nanotubes electrode was prepared using anodizing method, followed by electrodeposition of Pt nanoparticles onto the tubes. Carbon was deposited by decomposition of polyethylene glycol in a tube furnace to improve the conductivity. The C-Pt-TiO 2 nanotubes modified electrode was characterized by cyclic voltam-metry and differential pulse voltammetry methods. The modified electrode displayed high sensitivity towards the oxidation of dopamine and uric acid in a phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.00). The electro-oxidation currents...

Abstract
In this study a novel Pt/Ni nanostructure consisting of nano-bushes and nanocubes was fabricated onto TiO 2 nanotubes. The scanning electron microscopy images showed that a large amount of well-dispersed nano-architectures had uniformly covered all over the surface which made an electrode with high surface area. It was obviously seen that the nanocube structures mainly consists of Ni had been grown on top of each other while the Pt colonies represented bush-like structures. As a non-enzymatic glucose biosensor, the Pt/Ni TiO 2 nanotubes modified electrode exhibited an excellent performance. The proposed biosensor had two linear ranges for detection of glucose from 0 to 0.12 mM (correlation...
An Investigation on the electrochemical behavior of the co/cu multilayer system
, Article Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology ; Volume 10, Issue 9 , September , 2010 , Pages 5964-5970 ; 15334880 (ISSN) ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
2010
Abstract
Co/Cu multilayers were deposited in a sulfate solution by controlling the current and potential for the deposition of cobalt and copper layer respectively. The electrochemical behavior of these multilayers was studied by cyclic voltammetry and current transients. In addition, a mathematical analysis was used to characterize the electrodeposition system. Simultaneously, the nucleation and growth mechanisms were monitored by these techniques. In this case, the results clearly showed that electrodeposition of cobalt layers was a kinetically controlled process while the reduction of copper ions was a diffusion-control process. Although nucleation mechanism of the single Co deposit was found as a...

Abstract
The cobalt-nickel/copper multilayer films were prepared by electrodeposition process in sulfate solution using a three electrode cell. Cyclic voltammetry and double chronoampermetry techniques were utilized to characterize the multilayer system and to obtain the nucleation and growth mechanism. The cyclic voltammograms determined the reduction potential range of the three components and also clearly emphasized that electrodeposition of cobalt-nickel alloy was controlled by a kinetic process, while copper ions were reduced with diffusion-controlled mechanism. These results were confirmed with those which were extracted from the chronoampermetry curves. In addition, the current transients...

Abstract
A simple modified TiO2 nanotubes electrode was fabricated by electrodeposition of Pd, Pt and Au nanoparticles. The TiO2 nanotubes electrode was prepared using the anodizing method, followed by modifying Pd nanoparticles onto the tubes surface, offering a uniform conductive surface for electrodeposition of Pt and Au. The performance of the modified electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry methods. The Au/Pt/Pd/TiO2 NTs modified electrode represented a high sensitivity towards individual detection of dopamine as well as simultaneous detection of dopamine and uric acid using 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.00) as the base solution. In both case,...

Abstract
Progressive conversion/shrinking core (PC-SC) models of constant-size cylinders were exploited to interpret the decarburization reactions of MgO-C-Si bricks heated up under blown air. Chemical adsorption/solid (or pore) diffusion mechanisms governed the reaction rate. With 5% silicon, chemical adsorption vanished at 1000 and 1100°C. The oxidation rate lowered then with temperature. This was due apparently to the blocking of the pore-end gorges by the voluminous compounds (like Forstrite). Arrhenius plots of the specific rates yielded the activation energies of the prevailing steps. Without Si antioxidant, three steps were appreciated having activation energies of 51.65 (for chemical...
Effect of brookite presence on nanocrystalline anatase - Rutile phase transformation
, Article International Journal of Nanotechnology ; Volume 6, Issue 10-11 , 2009 , Pages 961-972 ; 14757435 (ISSN) ; Askari, M ; Sasani Ghamsari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
2009
Abstract
TiO2nanocrystals were prepared by hydrolysis and peptisation of titanium isopropoxide under different pH values. The as-prepared powder of very fine anatase crystallites ranges from 8 nm in acidic solution of pH 3 to 10 nm in basic solution of pH 8. Heat treatment of the powders leads to grain growth and anatase - rutile transformation. Experimental results have shown that the anatase to rutile phase transformation in the heat-treated powders depend not only on primary crystallite size but also the presence of brookite phase. It is observed that in the powders with the same size the presence brookite phase would accelerate the anatase to rutile transformation. Furthermore it has been found...

Abstract
The present work describes sensing application of modified TiO2 nanotubes towards detection of dopamine. The TiO2 nanotubes electrode was prepared using anodizing method at different conditions, among which NaF/ NaHSO4 solution and voltage of 15 V was chosen as the optimum condition. In order to improve the performance, surface modification with metal nanoparticles (Pd, Pt and Au) and carbon is required using “pulse electrodeposition” and “decomposition of polyethylene glycol at 600 °C” respectively. Carbon was deposited by decomposition of polyethylene glycol in a tube furnace to improve the conductivity. In this regard two type of electrodes were proposed: Pd-Pt-Au-TiO2 and C-Ni(Pt)-TiO2....

Abstract
The present work describes sensing application of modified Pt nanostructures towards detection of glucose. Modified Pt nanostructured electrodes were prepared using electrodeposition method such as chronoampermetry and potentiostatic pulse methods. The electrodeposition of Pt nanostructures was first studied by voltammetry and amperommetry techniques and then potentiostatic pulse method has been used to produce the alloyed structures of platinum. In this regard, the first electrode was proposed based on alloyed Pt/Ni nanowire arrays (NWAs) for the non-enzymatic detection of glucose. The Pt/Ni NWAs were prepared by pulse electrodeposition of Pt and Ni within a nano-pore polycarbonate (PC)...

Abstract
In this paper, we propose a leader following control for autonomous air robots. The separated design strategy with kinematic acceleration commands is used. The location of the robot with respect to the leader is specified by a range and two angles. We obtain the kinematic model of the system represented by the state-space equations. The controller is designed based on the sliding mode control which asymptotically stabilizes the tracking errors in presence of uncertainties and disturbances. In order to implement the leader following controller in the air robots, a control system is introduced which converts the acceleration commands to the actuator commands. Simulations are provided to show...

Abstract
In this paper, the design of a formation flight controller is investigated. Each vehicle in the formation is controlled by designing two separate control loops. The formation flight controller placed in the outer loop employs behavior-based control as a distributed control strategy to steer the vehicle by producing acceleration commands and the control system placed in the inner loop is to convert these commands to the actuator commands. Leader following architecture is applied to define the structure for the formation flight. To study the pragmatic issues of the proposed formation flight controller, it is implemented into multiple micro air vehicles which are modeled by a...

Abstract
The development and the implementation of a new guidance law are addressed for a six dimensional trajectory tracking problem, three dimensions for position tracking and three dimensions for velocity tracking, of a micro air vehicle. To generate the desired trajectory a virtual leader is defined which is moved in space. In the guidance law, position and velocity feedbacks are used by fuzzy controllers to generate two acceleration commands. Then, a fuzzy coordinator is applied to coordinate the acceleration commands. Nonlinear six-degree-of-freedom equations of motion are used to model the vehicle dynamics. Also, a bank-to-turn acceleration autopilot for vehicle is considered to follow the...

Abstract
The development of smart meters enables situational awareness in electric power distribution systems. The situational awareness provides significant advantages such as line outage and electricity theft detection. This paper aims at using smart meter data to detect these anomalies. To do so, an appropriate cluster-based method as an unsupervised machine learning approach is applied. A stochastic method based on conditional correlation is also proposed to localize the anomalies. It is shown that this can be done by detecting changes in bus connections using present and historical smart meter data. Therefore, network topology inspection can be avoided if the proposed method is applied. A...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saghafi, Fariborz (Supervisor)
Abstract
The goal of this project is the development of a control algorithm for a flock of non-holonomic aerial agents. For this purpose, the swarm architecture having some unique features such as robustness, flexibility, and scalability is utilized. Swarm is defined as a group of simple agents having local interactions between themselves and the environmentwhich shows an unpredictable emergent behavior.Behavior based control which is inspired from the animal behaviors is employed to control the swarm of mobile agents. Accordingly, the necessary behaviors which are distance adjustment, velocity agreement, and virtual leader tracking together with a fuzzy coordinator are designed. In this study, in...
Multi-Modal Distance Metric Learning
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Soleymani, Mahdieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
In many real-world applications, data contain multiple input channels (e.g., web pages include text, images and etc). In these cases, supervisory information may also be available in the form of distance constraints such as similar and dissimilar pairs from user feedbacks. Distance metric learning in these environments can be used for different goals such as retrieval and recommendation. In this research, we used from dual-wing harmoniums to combining text and image modals to a unified latent space when similar-dissimilar pairs are available. Euclidean distance of data represented in this latent space used as a distance metric. In this thesis, we extend the dual-wing harmoniums for...
Unsupervised Domain Adaptation via Representation Learning
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Soleymani, Mahdieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
The existing learning methods usually assume that training and test data follow the same distribution, while this is not always true. Thus, in many cases the performance of these learning methods on the test data will be severely degraded. We often have sufficient labeled training data from a source domain but wish to learn a classifier which performs well on a target domain with a different distribution and no labeled training data. In this thesis, we study the problem of unsupervised domain adaptation, where no labeled data in the target domain is available. We propose a framework which finds a new representation for both the source and the target domain in which the distance between these...
Deep Learning for Multimodal Data
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Soleymani, Mahdieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recent advances in data recording has lead to different modalities like text, image, audio and video. Images are annotated and audio accompanies video. Because of distinct modality statistical properties, shallow methods have been unsuccessful in finding a shared representation which maintains the most information about different modalities. Recently, deep networks have been used for extracting high-level representations for multimodal data. In previous methods, for each modality, one modality-specific network was learned. Thus, high-level representations for different modalities were extracted. Since these high-level representations have less difference than raw modalities, a shared...
