, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sojoudi Haghighi, Majid (Author) ; Shah Mansouri, Hamed (Supervisor) ; Namvar, Mehrzad (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
IoT-based systems use cloud computing servers that are generally far away from them to perform tasks. Whenever there is a computational task that requires heavy and complex processing, the problem of offloading decision is to identify the best computing server to perform the processing related to this task. Numerous dynamic factors affect the solution to this problem.Optimization in energy consumption of the device that has generated a task alongside reducing its calculation delay can be applied in solving the offloading problem. The optimization problem that is formed to minimize the energy consumption in the offloading decision is an integer programming problem that is generally difficult...

    Abstract
Toxic gases resulted from fire events in subways stations are more dangerous than high temperature radiation from it. So, a well designed smoke exhaust system must be installed in subway station to control the smoke's propagation and discharging. Smoke extraction in subway station depends on the duct laid above the ceiling, so vents are situated in the same level of platform layer's ceiling. If subway station catches fire, smoke will cumulate in smoke reservoirs at the beginning and mechanical fan cannot exhaust any smoke in this process. In This paper, FDS 5.0 is used to simulate smoke's movement in a side platform of an actual subway station in case of a fire. Simulations are carried out...

    Abstract
Aerodynamic performance of a Bladeless fan is numerically investigated considering the effect of five geometric parameters. Airflow through this fan was analyzed by simulating a Bladeless fan within a 2 m × 2 m × 4 m room. Analysis of the flow field inside the fan and the evaluation of its performance were obtained by solving conservations of mass and momentum equations for the aerodynamic investigations. In order to design the Bladeless fan an Eppler 473 airfoil profile was used as the cross section of the fan. Five distinct parameters, namely height of cross section of the fan, outlet angle of the flow relative to the fan axis, thickness of airflow outlet slit, hydraulic diameter, and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farsayyad, Nazi (Author) ; Rafiei, Majid (Supervisor) ; Khedmati, Majid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, requirement engineering and goal modeling have gained more attention among different organisations. Therefore, different methods have been designed to discover stakeholders’ requirements and translate them into process and organizational goals. Various goal models have been introduced to represent these goals and their relations towards each other. Still, these methods are manual representations of different process scenarios and do not relate to the actual behavior. In 2014, Map Miner Method (MMM) was introduced to discover intentional process models from event logs. MMM uses Hidden Markov Model (HMM) as a means to represent the process as a map model of strategies and...

Similarity solutions for flow and heat transfer of non-newtonian fluid over a stretching surface

    , Article Journal of Applied Mathematics ; Vol. 2014 , 2014 Sojoudi, A ; Mazloomi, A ; Saha, S. C ; Gu, Y. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Similarity solutions are carried out for flow of power law non-Newtonian fluid film on unsteady stretching surface subjected to constant heat flux. Free convection heat transfer induces thermal boundary layer within a semi-infinite layer of Boussinesq fluid. The nonlinear coupled partial differential equations (PDE) governing the flow and the boundary conditions are converted to a system of ordinary differential equations (ODE) using two-parameter groups. This technique reduces the number of independent variables by two, and finally the obtained ordinary differential equations are solved numerically for the temperature and velocity using the shooting method. The thermal and velocity boundary...

    Abstract
Self-repairing is not an advanced ability of articular cartilage. Tissue engineering has provided a novel way for reconstructing cartilage using natural polymers because of their biocompatibility and bio-functionality. The purpose of cartilage tissue engineering is to design a scaffold with proper pore structure and similar biological and mechanical properties to the native tissue. In this study, porous scaffolds prepared from gelatin, chitosan and silk fibroin were blended with varying ratios. Between the blends of chitosan (C), gelatin (G) and silk fibroin (S), the scaffold with the weight per volume ratio of 2:2:3 (w/v) showed the most favorable and higher certain properties than the...

    Needle Steering in Soft Tissue

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghighi, Payam (Author) ; Jahed, Mehran (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Medical needle interventions are a common technique for accessing tissue structures. In these procedures, needles are used, for example, to extract biopsy samples, brachytherapy, and to insert drugs. In TRUS guided prostate brachytherapy application, Physicians used ulterasound imaging to steer the needle and insert radioactive seeds into cancerous tumors to irradiate surrounding tissue over several months. Prostate rotation, deformation, and unavailability of imaging data during part of the insertion path result in misplaced seeds. To overcome these problems, in this research, we modeled the prostate, its membrane and the surrounding fatty tissue as linearly elastic homogenous material, and...

Analysis of Temporal Stability and Transferability of Trip Distribution Models Considering Urban Development Patterns: The Case of Shiraz

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghighi, Mohammad (Author) ; Shafahi, Yousef (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Trip distribution is the second step of the four-step travel demand modeling. Like other travel demand models, the most important objective of trip distribution models generation is forecasting the travel data of a year in the future. On the one hand, extensive changes in cities’ urban structures and people’s travel behavior during the years brings up the essential question of how temporally stable and transferable trip distribution models are? This question becomes even more important when the more complex structure of trip distribution models compared to models such as trip generation is considered. On the other hand, it is logical to assume that the consideration of the effects of urban...
