Abstract
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a mental disorder that affects all aspects of social and personal life, as well as causing significant biological and physiological changes in the body. Depression affects the nervous and cardiovascular systems, and these changes can be evaluated using electroencephalogram (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. In this study, the dataset consists of the concurrent EEG and ECG recording from 13 MDD patients and 13 healthy controls (HC), with age and sex-matched, in eyes close (EC) and eyes open (EO) resting states for six minutes. EEG microstates are transient and quasi-stable in the spatial distribution of an EEG and assess brain network activity. We...

Abstract
In this paper we study slotted ALOHA random access optical code division multiple access packet-switching networks with a chip-level receiver structure. We use generalized optical orthogonal codes (GOOCs) and the overlapping pulse position modulation (OPPM) signaling technique to improve system performance. The impact of physical layer parameters such as the GOOC cross-correlation value and the OPPM overlapping index on key performance benchmarks such as network throughput and delay are analyzed. We also study the stability of the network based on the number of backlogged users, using the expected state drift. It has been shown that using GOOC instead of strict optical orthogonal codes...

Abstract
A sensitive and accurate method for dispersion map extraction along an arbitrarily profiled highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) is proposed. High sensitivity is achieved by positioning the wavelength of a signal at the band edge of the modulation instability (MI) spectrum generated by an intense degenerate four wave mixing (FWM) pump. In doing so, the to-be-extracted dispersion fluctuations leave a more drastic effect on the FWM-generated power since they either inflate or deflate the MI spectrum. The accuracy of the method is increased by monitoring the distribution of power along the fiber. Once the power distribution is measured along the fiber, dispersion map of the HNLF is extracted using an...

Abstract
In this paper we study the effectiveness of using multiple classifier combination for EEG signal classification aiming to obtain more accurate results than it possible from each of the constituent classifiers. The developed system employs two linear classifiers (SVM,LDA) fused at the abstract and measurement levels for integrating information to reach a collective decision. For making decision, the majority voting scheme has been used. While at the measurement level, two types of combination methods have been investigated: one used fixed combination rules that don't require prior training and a trainable combination method. For the second type, the fuzzy integral method was used. The...

Abstract
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a method based on Brillouin optical time-domain analysis to measure the longitudinal signal power distribution along phase-sensitive fiber-optical parametric amplifiers (PS-FOPAs). Experimental results show that the amplification of a PS-FOPA could go through different longitudinal profiles and yet finish with the same overall gain. This behavior is in sheer contrast with theoretical expectations, according to which longitudinal gain distribution should follow certain profiles determined by the initial relative phase difference but can never end up in the same overall gain. The gap between theory and experiment only becomes evident when the pump...

Abstract
Controlling the environment with EEG signals is known as brain computer interface is the new subject researchers are interested in. The aim in such systems is to control the machine without using muscle, and we should control the machine using signals recorded from the surface of the cortex. In this project our focus is on pattern recognition phase in which we use multiple classifier fusion to improve the classification accuracy. We have applied various feature extraction methods and combined their results. Two methods, greedy algorithms and genetic algorithms, are used for selecting the pair feature extractor-classifier (we called expert) between the existed pair. Experiments show that with...
Extracting Temporal Dynamics from Electroencephalogram Microstates
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shamsollahi, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
The electroencephalogram (EEG) microstates, as reflections of the brain's quasi-stable neural activity, play a crucial role in analyzing brain dynamics and understanding mental processes. These microstates represent specific and transient states in the brain's neuroelectric dynamics and can provide valuable insights into the brain's structure and function. Investigating the temporal dynamics of these microstates, their relationship with mental processes, and changes caused by disorders such as depression helps improve our understanding of the brain's complex mechanisms. Major depressive disorder is one of the most common diseases globally, associated with widespread effects on quality of...

Theoretical study of high repetition rate short pulse generation with fiber optical parametric amplification [electronic resource]
, Article Journal of Lightwave Technology ; May 2012, Volume 30, Issue 9, PP. 1263-1268 ; Ariaei, A. M ; Jadidi, M. M ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif Unversity of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, we study theoretically the generation of high repetition rate short pulses using fiber optical parametric amplification. We show that the pulse shape and duration depend on the signal location relatively to the pump frequency. We demonstrate that in order to get the shortest pulse width, the signal must be located at one of the extremities of the gain spectrum associated with the pump peak power. We derive the analytical expression of the pulse shape in this case and compare it to the exponential gain regime case. Using numerical simulations, we also analyze the impact of walk-off and pump phase modulation that is required to suppress Stimulated Brillouin Scattering and derive...

Abstract
This paper reports a polarization controllable and angle-insensitive perfect metamaterial absorber (PMA). The proposed PMA consists of periodically arranged asymmetric omega-shaped resonators made of metallic copper. The absorptivity was analyzed considering the microwave C-band from 4 GHz to 8 GHz. The proposed PMA shows an absorption peak with almost 100% absorptivity at 6.2 GHz. Also, wideband negative index of refraction is observed. Further, the absorber is inspected for the different rotation angles of the top metasurface (omega-shaped ring) along the optical axis, and obliquity of incidence angle for both TE and TM polarized waves. Moreover, surface electric field and surface current...

Abstract
In cloud computing, services play key roles. Services are well defined and autonomous components. Nowadays, the demand of using Fuzzy inference as a service is increasing in the domain of complex and critical systems. In such systems, along with the development of the software, the cost of detecting and fixing software defects increases. Therefore, using formal methods, which provide clear, concise, and mathematical interpretation of the system, is crucial for the design of these Fuzzy systems. To obtain this goal, we introduce the Fuzzy Inference Cloud Service (FICS) and propose a novel discipline for formal modeling of the FICS. The FICS provides the service of Fuzzy inference to the...

Abstract
Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication is an important type of communication in the Internet-of-Things (IoT). How to send data in these high-density communications using relay selection can help improve the performance of this type of communication in various applications. In addition, the possibility of simultaneous use of different Radio Frequency (RF) interfaces helps to use the spectrum more efficiently. In this work, we try to further use machine communication RF equipment and improve the average data rate of networks in some applications such as the IoT, which have their own bandwidth requirements. Therefore, we provide an optimization algorithm for relay selection as well as the...
