, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Farhadpour, Mohammad (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Pircheraghi, Gholamreza (Supervisor) ; Shao, Minhua (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Developing high-performance anion exchange membranes (AEMs) with well-balanced properties is essential for advancing AEM fuel cell technology. However, current AEMs face performance and durability limitations due to the trade-off challenges between different properties. This work addresses these challenges through various approaches, including crosslinking, copolymerization, and blending. Firstly, we developed crosslinked ether-free polyfluorene-based AEMs using a crosslinker containing potential cationic groups. Optimizing the crosslinking degree significantly improved swelling ratio (<15.9%), water uptake (<78.0%), and mechanical properties (>35 MPa), while simultaneously enhancing...

Stator-Flux-Oriented vector control for brushless doubly fed induction generator

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics ; Volume 56, Issue 10 , 2009 , Pages 4220-4228 ; 02780046 (ISSN) Shao, S ; Abdi, E ; Barati, F ; McMahon, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Brushless doubly fed induction generators (BDFIGs) show commercial promise for wind-power generation due to their lower capital and operational costs and higher reliability as compared with doubly fed induction generators. This paper presents a vector-control scheme for a BDFIG operating as a variable-speed generator. The proposed vector controller is developed on the power-winding stator-flux frame and can be used to control both the speed and the reactive power. The machine model and the control system are developed in MATLAB. The test results show that the proposed controller has good dynamic performance when changes in speed and reactive power are applied. © 2009 IEEE

    Abstract
This study investigated FG carbon nanotubes filled composites, which are promising metamaterials that can be useful in the energy absorption field. This structure can absorb energy through elastic deformation. For this issue, absorbed energy and dynamic stability analysis of the FG-CNTRC curved panel surrounded by a non-polynomial viscoelastic substrate using three-dimensional poroelasticity theory is investigated. For stability of the structure after vibrating, the viscoelastic substrate as the non-polynomial viscoelastic model is presented. The curved panel comprises multilayer carbon nanotubes (CNT) which are uniformly distributed in all layers of facing sheets; however, the system’s...

    Abstract
This paper presents a generalized vector control system for a generic brushless doubly fed (induction) machine (BDFM) with nested-loop type rotor. The generic BDFM consists of p1/p2 pole-pair stator windings and a nested-loop rotor with N number of loops per nest. The vector control system is derived based on the basic BDFM equation in the synchronous mode accompanied with an appropriate synchronization approach to the grid. An analysis is performed for the vector control system using the generic BDFM vector model. The analysis proves the efficacy of the proposed approach in BDFM electromagnetic torque and rotor flux control. In fact, in the proposed vector control system, the BDFM torque...

    Abstract
This paper discusses the dynamic behavior of the brushless doubly fed induction generator during the grid faults which lead to a decrease in the generator's terminal voltage. The variation of the fluxes, back EMFs, and currents are analyzed during and after the voltage dip. Furthermore, two alternative approaches are proposed to improve the generator ride-through capability using crowbar and series dynamic resistor circuits. Appropriate values for their resistances are calculated analytically. Finally, the coupled circuit model and the generator's speed and reactive power controllers are simulated to validate the theoretical results and the effectiveness of the proposed solutions. Moreover,...

    Abstract
The paper presents the vector model of the Brushless Doubly-Fed Machine (BDFM) in the rotor flux oriented reference frame. The rotor flux oriented reference frame is well known in the standard AC machines analysis and control. Similar benefits can be sought by employing this method for the BDFM The vector model is implemented in MATLAB/SIVIULINK to simulate the BDFM dynamic performance under different operating conditions. The predictions from the vector model are compared to those from the coupled circuit model in simulation. The results are shown for the cascade mode of operation. © 2008 IEEE

    Abstract
Graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) fabricated using electron beam lithography are investigated using tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) with a spatial resolution of 5 nm under ambient conditions. High-resolution TERS imaging reveals a structurally modified 5-10 nm strip of disordered graphene at the edge of the GNRs. Furthermore, hyperspectral TERS imaging discovers the presence of nanoscale organic contaminants on the GNRs. These results pave the way for nanoscale chemical and structural characterisation of graphene-based devices using TERS. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2021

    Abstract
The brushless doubly fed induction generator (BDFIG) has been proposed as a viable alternative in wind turbines to the commonly used doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). The BDFIG retains the benefits of the DFIG, i.e. variable speed operation with a partially rated converter, but without the use of brush gear and slip rings, thereby conferring enhanced reliability. As low voltage ride-through (LVRT) performance of the DFIG-based wind turbine is well understood, this paper aims to analyze LVRT behavior of the BDFIG-based wind turbine in a similar way. In order to achieve this goal, the equivalence between their two-axis model parameters is investigated. The variation of flux linkages,...

    Abstract
Hybrid deep neural network hidden Markov models (DNN-HMM) have achieved impressive results on large vocabulary continuous speech recognition (LVCSR) tasks. However, the recent approaches using DNN-HMM models are not explored much for text recognition. Inspired by the current work in automatic speech recognition (ASR) and machine translation, we present an open vocabulary sub-word text recognition system. The sub-word lexicon and sub-word language model (LM) helps in overcoming the challenge of recognizing out of vocabulary (OOV) words, and a time delay neural network (TDNN) and convolution neural network (CNN) based DNN-HMM optical model (OM) efficiently models the sequence dependency in the...
