    Abstract
    Nanosecond lasers of different intensities were pulsed into sputter-deposited amorphous thin films of near equiatomic Ni/Ti composition to produce partially crystallized highly sensitive R-phase spots surrounded by amorphous regions. Scanning electron microscopy having secondary and back-scattered electrons, field emission scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction patterns were used to characterize the laser treated spots.     Abstract
    Local annealing of amorphous NiTi thin films was performed by using an Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength pulsed laser beam. Raw samples produced by simultaneous sputter deposition from elemental Ni and Ti targets onto unheated Si (100) and Silica (111) substrates were used for annealing. Delicate treatment with 15.92 W/mm2 power density resulted in crystallization of small spots; while 16.52 and 17.51 W/mm2 power densities caused ablation of the amorphous layer.     Abstract
    In this research, a modified, cost effective sol-gel procedure applied to synthesize BaTiO3 nanoparticles. XRD and electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) applied for microstructural characterization of powders. The obtained results showed that the type of precursors, their ratio and the hydrolysis conditions had a great effect on time, temperature and therefore the costs of the synthesis process. By selection, utilization of optimized precursor's type, hydrolysis conditions, fine cubic BaTiO3 nanoparticles were synthesized at low temperature and in short time span (1 h calcination at 800 °C).     Abstract
    The fabrication of TixNi1-x shape memory films using simultaneous magnetron sputtering from two separate, elemental targets was investigated. The films were deposited at room temperature and then annealed at 500 °C to achieve the shape memory effect. The influence of sputtering parameters such as power ratio to the targets (to control the composition) and Ar gas pressure (to control the film structure) were studied.     Abstract
    The problem of surveillance for intrusion detection in a camera sensor network is addressed in this paper. In order to save limited resources, a sensing task should involve just the right number of sensors. For a wide enough coverage area random and uniform distribution can be applied. We propose a novel method which allows reduction of number of sensors and guarantees a desired surveillance against aerial intrusion.     NiTiHf thin films with varying hafnium contents up to 28.7at% were fabricated using simultaneous sputter deposition from separate Ni, Ti, and Hf targets onto unheated substrates. The required film composition was achieved by adjusting the power ratio to the targets. The as-deposited films were amorphous; and post deposition annealing was performed at 550°C, slightly above their crystallization temperatures. The crystallization temperature of the films varied as a function of Hf concentration, and was as high as 520°C at a Hf content of 28.7at%. 2μm thick crystallized films with I0at% or greater Hf were martensitic at room temperature.
