    Abstract
This article provides an agent-based model of a hypothetical standalone electricity network to identify how the feed-in tariffs and the installed capacity of wind power, calculated in percentage of total system demand, affect the electricity consumption from renewables. It includes the mechanism of electricity pricing on the Day Ahead Market (DAM) and the Imbalance Market (IM). The extra production volumes of Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources (RES-E) and the flexibility of electrical consumption of industries is provided as reserves on the IM. Five thousand simulations were run by using the agent-based model to gather data that were then fit in linear regression models. This helped...

    Abstract
In this work we study control independence in embedded processors. We classify control independent instructions to data dependent and data independent and measure each group's frequency and behavior. Moreover, we study how control independent instructions impact power dissipation and resource utilization. We also investigate control independent instructions' behavior for different processors and branch predictors. Our study shows that data independent instructions account for 34% of the control independent instructions in the applications studied here. We also show that control independent instructions account for upto 12% of the processor energy and 15.6%, 11.2% and 8.6% of the instructions...

    , Article Proceedings - IEEE/IFIP International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing, EUC 2010, 11 December 2010 through 13 December 2010, Hong Kong ; 2010 , Pages 1-6 ; 9780769543222 (ISBN) Samie Ghahfarokhi, F ; Ejlali, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
A distributed embedded system consists of different processing elements (PEs) communicating via communication links. PEs have various power characteristics and in turn, have different thermal profiles. With new technologies, processor power density is dramatically increased which results in high temperature. This alarming trend underscores the importance of temperature management methods in system design. The majority of proposed techniques to address thermal issues, impose severe penalties on performance and reliability. We present Schedule Swapping, a technique for reducing peak temperature in distributed embedded systems while satisfying real-time constraints. Contrary to many other...

    2013
    Abstract
Symmetric T junctions have been used widely in microfluidics to generate equal-sized microdroplets, which are applicable in drug delivery systems. A newly proposed method for generating unequal-sized microdroplets at a T junction is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Asymmetric T junctions with branches of identical lengths and different cross sections are utilized for this aim. An equation for the critical breakup of droplets at asymmetric T junctions and one for determining the breakup point of droplets are developed. A good agreement was observed between the theories (present and previous) and the experiments

    Abstract
Convection heat transfer below a horizontal, hot, and isothermal strip of infinite length and width of 2L embedded in fluids with different Prandtl number (Pr) and Nusselt number (Nu) is analyzed with the aid of integral method. A new concept is utilized to determine the boundary layer thickness at the strip's edge, which is based on matching the flow rate of the boundary layer below the strip at its edge and the flow rate of the plume, which forms after the heated fluid detaches from the strip's edge. In addition to these novelties, a numerical model is developed to verify the analytical framework, and an excellent agreement is observed between the analytical and numerical models

    Abstract
Several efforts have been made to explore the income inequality influence on environmental degradation, but the query regarding the nexus of income inequality and renewable energy consumption (REC) is still unanswered. This vacuum in existing literature has raised the need to inspect the relationship between income inequality and REC. Thus, this study purposes to investigate the asymmetric effect of income inequality on REC for emerging Asian economies over the period 1990–2019 by adopting the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) approach. The panel-wise long-run results infer that positive shock in income inequality exerts a significant negative effect on REC, while negative...

    Abstract
Aramid fiber–reinforced polymer composite (AFRPC) is popular in aerospace and defense industries owing to its superior thermal and mechanical properties. However, its intricate hexagonal cellular structure and the material’s heterogeneous, soft, and brittle characteristics lead to significant surface defects, such as burr formation, wall tearing, roughness, dimensional inaccuracies, and uncut fibers during traditional machining. Such poor machining quality issues notably affect the operational lifespan and functional performance of its sandwich structural components. To address these issues, the rotary ultrasonic assisted machining (RUSAM) process has been introduced. To thoroughly...

    Abstract
Kinetic data relevant to steam methane reforming (SMR) are often applied to catalysts and conditions for which they have not been derived. In this work, kinetic rates for the two SMR and water gas shift reactions were derived for 12 commonly used reforming catalysts based on conversion data obtained from the literature. Subsequently, these rates were tested in dynamic operation, steady-state, and equilibrium using a 1-D reactor model developed in-house with gPROMS model builder. Modelling outputs were further validated independently at equilibrium using the software chemical equilibrium with applications (CEA), and the literature. The effect of variables such as temperature, pressure, steam...

Performance and exhaust emission characteristics of a spark ignition engine operated with gasoline and CNG blend

    , Article Proceedings of the Spring Technical Conference of the ASME Internal Combustion Engine Division ; 2012 , Pages 179-187 ; 15296598 (ISSN) ; 9780791844663 (ISBN) Dashti, M ; Hamidi, A. A ; Mozafari, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Using CNG as an additive for gasoline is a proper choice due to higher octane number of CNG enriched gasoline with respect to that of gasoline. As a result, it is possible to use gasoline with lower octane number in the engine. This would also mean the increase of compression ratio in SI engines resulting in higher performance and lower gasoline consumption. Over the years, the use of simulation codes to model the thermodynamic cycle of an internal combustion engine have developed tools for more efficient engine designs and fuel combustion. In this study, a thermodynamic cycle simulation of a conventional four-stroke spark-ignition engine has been developed. The model is used to study the...

    Abstract
With the declining energy resources and increase of pollutant emissions, a great deal of efforts has been focused on the development of alternatives for fossil fuels. One of the promising alternative fuels to gasoline in the internal combustion engine is natural gas [1-5]. The application of natural gas in current internal combustion engines is realistic due to its many benefits. The higher thermal efficiency due to the higher octane value and lower exhaust emissions including CO2 as a result of the lower carbon to hydrogen ratio of the fuel are the two important feature of using CNG as an alternative fuel. It is well known that computer simulation codes are valuable economically as a cost...

    Abstract
Gaining insight into possible vibratory responses of dynamical systems around their stable equilibria is an essential step, which must be taken before their design and application. The results of such a study can significantly help prevent instability in closed-loop stabilized systems by avoiding the excitation of the system in the neighborhood of its resonance. This paper investigates nonlinear oscillations of a rotary inverted pendulum (RIP) with a full-state feedback controller. Lagrange’s equations are employed to derive an accurate 2-DoF mathematical model, whose parameter values are extracted by both the measurement and 3D modeling of the real system components. Although the governing...
