Abstract
In this letter, we improve the tradeoff among the downlink (DL) rates of service providers (SPs), provided by a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique. In this respect, NOMA provides a suitable opportunity for the MVNO to share resources among SPs more efficiently. Regarding interaction among the DL rates provided for SPs we formulate our resource allocation problem as a multiobjective optimization problem (MOOP) while taking into account user fairness. By using the weighted Tchebycheff technique, we are able to solve the formulated MOOP by considering different tradeoffs among DL rates of different SPs. Our numerical results show that by...

Abstract
This paper considers a resource allocation problem in device-to-device (D2D) communications sharing the same frequency spectrum. In particular, the cellular users (CUs) utilize non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) while D2D users (DUs) adopt the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). A multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) is formulated, which jointly maximizes the sum rate of DUs and CUs in uplink communications while taking into account the maximum transmit power budget and minimum data rate requirement for DUs and CUs. This MOOP is handled by the weighted Tchebycheff method, which converts it into a single-objective optimization (SOOP). Then, the monotonic...
Rate-power-interference optimization in underlay OFDMA CRNs with imperfect CSI
, Article IEEE Communications Letters ; Volume 21, Issue 7 , 2017 , Pages 1657-1660 ; 10897798 (ISSN) ; Musavian, L ; Ng, D. W. K ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Achieving higher transmission rate while reducing transmission power and induced interference on neighboring receivers is deemed necessary for the advancement of future generation networks and is particularly challenging, since these directions could be conflicting in nature. This letter adopts a multiobjective optimization (MOOP) approach to settle the tradeoffs between these three conflicting objectives in orthogonal frequency-division multiple access-based cognitive radio networks. Besides, unlike most of the work in the literature that studied the imperfect channel side information (CSI) of the link between the secondary transmitter and the primary receiver to evaluate ergodic capacity,...

Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the achievable energy efficiency of cognitive radio networks where two main modes are of interest, namely, spectrum sharing (known as underlay paradigm) and spectrum sensing (or interweave paradigm). In order to improve the energy efficiency, we formulate a new multiobjective optimization problem that jointly maximizes the ergodic capacity and minimizes the average transmission power of the secondary user network while limiting the average interference power imposed on the primary user receiver. The multiobjective optimization will be solved by first transferring it into a single objective problem (SOP), namely, a power minimization problem, by using the...

Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the tradeoff between the profits gained by mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based virtualized wireless networks (VWNs). In this respect, MVNOs rent the network resources from a mobile network operator (MNO) to create virtual resources based on allocated rates and the cost due to allocated transmit powers in two different strategies: resource-based isolation strategy and rate-based isolation strategy. In resource-based isolation strategy, it is assumed that the whole bandwidth in each base station is divided equally between MVNOs whereas in rate-based isolation strategy, the whole bandwidth in each...

Abstract
Downlink transmission of non-orthogonal multiple access visible light communication systems empowered by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is considered for multiplexing enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and massive machine type communication (mMTC) services. Accordingly, a resource allocation problem of joint transmit power control and motion trajectory design of the DAVs is formulated, whose goal is to characterize a multi-objective trade-off as a weighted sum of the UAVs' power consumption and the perceived quality-of-experience (QoE) of eMBB users, while ensuring the eMBB and mMTC service-specific requirements. We leverage an alternative decomposition and tools from convex optimization and...

Abstract
In this paper, we develop and analyze a novel performance metric, called interference efficiency (IE), that shows the number of transmitted bits per unit of interference energy imposed on the primary users (PUs) in an underlay cognitive radio network (CRN). Specifically, we develop a framework to maximize the IE of a CRN with multiple secondary users (SUs) while satisfying target constraints on the average interference power on PU receiver, total SUs transmit power and minimum ergodic rate for the SUs. In doing so, we formulate a multiobjective optimization problem (MOP), that aims to achieve the maximum ergodic sum rate of multiple SUs and the minimum average interference power on the...

Abstract
This letter is concerned with the optimal power allocation in femtocell networks using a new technique based on multiobjective optimization. In this letter, we consider a cochannel framework for the coexistence of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based macrocell and femtocell networks. We jointly maximize the total rate of OFDMA femtocell network and minimize the total transmit power of femtocell base stations while satisfying a target constraint on transmit power when either the cross femtocell interference is included or excluded. Additionally, the results show that the proposed method for power transmission contributes toward improving the energy efficiency of...

Abstract
Integrating the multitude of emerging internet of things (IoT) applications with diverse requirements in beyond fifth generation (B5G) networks necessitates the coexistence of enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) services. However, bandwidth limited and congested sub-6GHz bands are incapable of fulfilling this coexistence. In this paper, we consider a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided wideband terahertz (THz) communication system to this end. In specific, we formulate a resource management problem, aiming at jointly optimizing the reflection coefficient of the RIS elements and the transmit power of the base station, as well as the...

Abstract
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a promising scheme for the fifth generation (5G) of mobile communication systems. In this scheme, transmission to multiple users is performed on the same subchannel using superposition coding and successive interference cancellation. In this paper, we focus on a multi-cell network with two users' data traffic models, namely elastic and streaming. We exploit the NOMA scheme in order to maximize the download elastic traffic rate at cells, without degrading the download streaming traffic rates. Since elastic traffic rates at different cells are interactive, we maximize the total elastic traffic rates assuming either perfect or partial channel state...

Abstract
Delta-orthogonal multiple access (D-OMA) has been recently investigated as a potential technique to enhance the spectral efficiency in the sixth-generation (6G) networks. D-OMA enables partial overlapping of the adjacent sub-channels that are assigned to different clusters of users served by non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), at the expense of additional interference. In this paper, we analyze the performance of D-OMA in the uplink and develop a multi-objective optimization framework to maximize the uplink energy efficiency (EE) in a multi-access point (AP) network enabled by D-OMA. Specifically, we optimize the sub-channel and transmit power allocations of the users as well as the...

Abstract
Mounting a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) holds promise for improving traditional terrestrial network performance. Unlike conventional methods deploying the passive RIS on UAVs, this study delves into the efficacy of an aerial active RIS (AARIS). Specifically, the downlink transmission of an AARIS network is investigated, where the base station (BS) leverages rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) for effective interference management and benefits from the support of an AARIS for jointly amplifying and reflecting the BS's transmit signals. Considering both the nontrivial energy consumption of the active RIS and the limited energy storage of the...

Abstract
In this paper, we study a resource allocation problem in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based Device-to-Device (D2D) communications. To this end, we propose a multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) framework, which jointly maximizes the sum rate of D2D users (DUs) and cellular users (CUs) in uplink communications and minimizes the total transmit power. The proposed problem formulation takes into account the minimum data-rates and the maximum transmitted power budget for both DUs and CUs. We transform this MOOP into a single-objective optimization problem (SOOP) using the weighted sum method and then propose an approach to solve this SOOP via a monotonic approach...

Abstract
Optical wireless communication (OWC) systems with multiple light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have recently been explored to support energy-limited devices via simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer (SLIPT). The energy consumption, however, becomes considerable by increasing the number of incorporated LEDs. This paper proposes a joint dimming (JD) scheme that lowers the consumed power of a SLIPT-enabled OWC system by controlling the number of active LEDs. We further enhance the data rate of this system by utilizing rate splitting multiple access (RSMA). More specifically, we formulate a data rate maximization problem to optimize the beamforming design, LED selection and RSMA rate...

Abstract
It is necessary to evaluate dosimetry accuracy in the framework of advanced methods for radiation therapy such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) to ensure reliability of a proposed treatment. The ability of the Monte Carlo codes to model linear accelerator (LINAC) and to calculate the exact dose distribution in clinical radiation therapy is one of the reasons to use such codes. The purpose of this project is to validate a treatment planning system with BEAMnrc and DOSXYZnrc Monte Carlo codes. In this study, the dose distribution obtained from DOSXYZnrc in considered to be thr main criterion with which the dose distribution obtained from treatment planning system is assessed and...

Abstract
Using multiple antennas at the transmit and receive sides of a passive radar brings both the benefits of MIMO radar and passive radar. However one of the obstacles arisen in such configuration is the receive antennas placement in proper positions so that the radar performance is improved. Here we just consider the case of positioning one receiver among multiple illuminators of opportunity. Indeed it is a start for the solution of optimizing the geometry of the multiple receivers in a passive radar
