Symplectic Symmetries and Their Associated Hilbert Spaces
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sheikh-Jabbari, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Rahvar, Sohrab (Supervisor)
Abstract
In every theory with local symmetries, observales are mainly the gauge invariant quantities and fields are defined up to a local transformation.By choosing boundary conditions on field configurations and on the generating functions of gauge transformations, we can associate conserved charges to a particular subset of the generating functions. Thus field combinations which are related by these particular gauge transformations are physically distinct. These set of conserved charges usually form infinite-dimensional algebras such as Virasoro or BMS algebra. In addition, sets of all combinations of the associated fields form a phase space with a symplectic structure induced form the action of...
Design and Implementation of Phase Noise Meter in Digital Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Banai, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Phase noise is one of the important parameters in telecommunication systems and its measurement has always been considered. Digital phase noise measurement methods have a simpler implementation and calibration than analog types. Also, in digital methods, amplitude noise and phase noise can be separated and measured both at the same time. Comparing the phase noise of two oscillators with different frequencies is another major advantage of digital methods. The sensitivity of digital methods is limited to the noise of their analog-to-digital converters. Cross-correlation technique is used to reduce the minimum measurable level of phase noise. This method reduces the internal noise of the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behzad, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
Abstract
Pumps are widely used in oil and gas industry. Therefore condition monitoring for this type of equipment is very important. The motor current signature analysis (MCSA) technique as one of the condition monitoring techniques is very effective in the industry, but it is less used in industry. All conventional methods require additional sensors to be installed in the system; current signature analysis as a sensorless method can reduce the cost of condition monitoring. In this study, motor current signature analysis technique was used to diagnosis a centrifugal pump with a capacity of 187 kW from the refinery industry. The impeller wearing ring clearance problem has been investigated. This...

Abstract
Nowadays, due to the indensible role of electrical energy in life of societies, the reliability of service should be provided in an economic form. Researches has shown that, about 80% of faults occur in the distribution network. In a distribution network that is equipped with automation systems, through the acceleration in the determination of the fault location, and also possibility of reacting against transient and steady faults, the electricity interruption time duration is minimized. This thesis aims to determine the number and to locate the auto reclosers and fault indicators in a distribution network optimally. To make it economically feasible, a limited number of these devices and...
Nonlinear Vibration Analysis of Circular Microplate Based on Strain Gradient Theory
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays the combination of mechanical and electronic systems in small scales is gaining attention. Micro electro-mechanical systems are widely used in various industries such as car manufacturing and electronic chips. In these devices, the most important and useful mechanical structures are beams and plates. Therefore, investigating the mechanical properties of these structures in very small scales (micro and nano) is of great importance. Decreasing the size to these scales leads to the dependence of the behavior of these structures to size. Accordingly, some theories for prediction of these behaviors have been presented, one of which is the strain gradient theory. This theory is used in...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death in the world. Identifying the mechanical behavior of arteries and their growth and remodeling under applied loadings can help to better understand the progression of the disease and provide more effective clinical interventions. Therefore, many researchers in recent decades have turned their attention to modeling the process of stress-mediated growth and remodeling in soft tissues. Among the most important models proposed to study this process are the constrained mixture model proposed by Humphrey et al. and the volumetric growth model proposed by Hoger et al.. The constrained mixture model is based on the continuous turnover of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the extensively used, yet complex, structures in the industry is pre-twisted Micro/Nano beams. Studying their mechanical behavior helps to have a broader view of them. In this present study, explores and analyzes the behavior of a pre-twisted Micro/Nano beam with a quadrangular/rectangular cross-section using the strain gradient theory and modified couple stress theory. Using the calculus of variations and the Hamiltonian principle the elastodynamics governing partial differential equations of transverse deflection of the pre-twisted Micro/Nano beam with hinged-hinged boundary conditions are derived. Then the mechanical behavior of the pre-twisted Micro/Nano beam in static mode and...

Abstract
Water treatment is a process used to eliminate or reduce chemical and biological contaminants that are potentially harmful to the water supply for human use. Stimuli-responsive polymers are a new category of smart materials used in water treatment via a stimuli-induced purification process and subsequent regeneration of the polymers. Stimuli-responsive polymers dynamically change their physico-chemical properties upon environmental changes. They can undergo shrinkage or expansion, alter their optical properties, and change their electrical characteristics depending on the applied stimuli. In this context, various stimuli-responsive polymer systems such as self-assembled nanostructures,...

Mechanical Simulation of Corneal Ring Implant Surgery for Keratoconus Treatment Considering Tissue Collagen Structure
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
Abstract
Keratoconus is one of the most common optical (visual, eye) diseases that usually occurs in youth or early third decade of life. In this disease, cornea gets thin and loses it initial shape and becomes conical. Doctors use different methods for its treatment including use of glasses, contact lenses (hard or soft), cornea transplantation and also cross linking of cornea. Each of these methods have their limitations, on the other hand, considering that this disease progresses and intensifies, ophthalmologists use corneal ring implant surgery for the treatment of this disease in its advanced levels. A good ring implant in corneal causes increased strength and also cause corneal to get back to...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemeini, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Sadjadi, Samaheh (Supervisor)
Abstract
To expand the applications of alginates as carbohydrate-based biopolymers, calcium alginate beads were developed as catalytic support for the encapsulation of functionalized heteropolyacid with ionic liquid. This novel heterogeneous acid catalyst was applied for the 5-HMF production from fructose. Here, the roles of heteropolyacids as acidic species and ionic liquids for better stabilization of such materials were more clearly understood. The impact of the heteropolyacid type on catalyst efficiency was also investigated. Under optimal reaction conditions (i.e., 120 °C, 100 min reaction duration, and 28 wt.% of reactor catalyst loading), which were obtained by RSM analysis, the 5-HMF...
Signal Detection in Clutter Using Fractals in High Resolution Radars
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Nayebi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Accurate modeling of clutter and detection of low observable targets within clutter are the major problems in radar signal processing applications. Recently, fractal geometry is applied to the analysis of high range resolution radar sea clutters. The intrinsic difference in the fractal dimension between sea clutter and the echoes from targets is extracted and used to detect targets. The box-counting method is widely used to estimate fractal dimension but it has some drawbacks never or rarely considered in literature. We explain the drawbacks and propose a new fractal dimension based detector to increase detection performance in comparison with traditional detectors. Both statistically...
Combination of SAR & ISAR Techniques
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nayebi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a microwave imaging radar that achieves high resolution while taking advantage of pulse compression technology and the Doppler effect. In typical radar systems, in order to obtain a good azimuth resolution, one should use an antenna with big aperture. However this is not possible in many cases. SAR has overcome this problem by moving the antenna and so making a synthetic aperture. In inverse SAR (ISAR) the radar antenna is static and synthetic aperture is created by the movement of target. Typical SAR imaging aims at the static targets and when the target is moving, it does not operate well. When detecting moving targets by SAR, both radar and target are...
