Text Separation of Single-Channel Audio Sources Using Deep Neural Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ramazani Bonab, Amirhossein (Author) ; Motahari, Abolfazl (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The problem of separation of audio sources is one of the oldest issues raised in the field of audio processing, which has been studied for more than half a century. The main focus of recent research in this field has been on improving the sound quality resulting from the separation of sound sources with the help of deep neural networks. This is despite the fact that in most applications of audio source separation, such as the application of meeting transcription, we do not need the separated audio of people. Rather, we need a pipeline of converting overlapping speech to text, which, by receiving the audio in which several people have spoken, outputs the text spoken by the people present in...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nikounia, Hossein (Author) ; Jahangir, AmirHossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless sensor networks have many applications, vary in size, and are deployed in a wide variety of areas. They are often deployed in potentially adverse or even hostile environment so security issues are of much concern in these networks. Key management is a fundamental security issue in sensor networks. In this thesis, we are mainly focusing on key establishment and group rekeying schemes aspects of key management. Due to limited resources of sensor networks, key pre-distribution schemes are currently viewed as the most promising solution. Key predistribution in sensor networks refers to the problem of distributing secret keys among sensor nodes prior to deployment. Recently, many key...

A new Temporal Locality Method for Multi-Core Processor data Cache

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Banihashemi, Borzoo (Author) ; Jahangir, AmirHossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
By increasing speed gap between microprocessors and off-chip Last Level Cache, Optimization in Last Level Cache makes improvement in system performance. With development of new generation of multi-core processors and sharing LLC between these cores, the so called issue of Memory Wall has caused an incremental effect of LLC on system performance. There are three approaches to use this memory more efficiently:
    1. Increasing cache capacity
    2. Making cache hierarchical and adding different layers to hierarchy
    3. Improvement of replacement algorithms in cache memory
The first approach has not been used in regard with limitation of technology and growth of access time due to...

Strain rate sensitivity, work hardening, and fracture behavior of an Al-Mg TiO2 nanocomposite prepared by friction stir processing [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A ; August 2014, Volume 45, Issue 9, P.4073-4088 Khodabakhshi, F ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Kokabi, Amirhossein ; Nosko, Martin ; Svec, Peter ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Annealed and wrought AA5052 aluminum alloy was subjected to friction stir processing (FSP) without and with 3 vol pct TiO2 nanoparticles. Microstructural studies by electron backscattered diffraction and transmission electron microscopy showed the formation of an ultra-fine-grained structure with fine distribution of TiO2 nanoparticles in the metal matrix. Nanometric Al3Ti and MgO particles were also observed, revealing in-situ solid-state reactions between Al and Mg with TiO2. Tensile testing at different strain rates determined that FSP decreased the strain rate sensitivity and work hardening of annealed Al-Mg alloy without and with TiO2 nanoparticles, while opposite results were obtained...

Effect of silicon carbide nanoparticles on hot deformation of ultrafine-grained aluminium nanocomposites prepared by hot powder extrusion process

    , Article Powder Metallurgy ; Volume 59, Issue 4 , 2016 , Pages 262-270 ; 00325899 (ISSN) Mobarhan Bonab, M. A ; Simchi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The flow behaviour of Al–SiC nanocomposites prepared by mechanical milling and hot powder extrusion methods was studied at different temperatures (350–500°C) and strain rates (0.005–0.5 s−1). The flow of the Powder metallurgy nanocomposites exhibited a peak stress followed by a dynamic flow softening behaviour. It was shown that mechanical milling increased high-temperature strain rate sensitivity of ultrafine-grained (UFG) aluminium while decreasing its flow dependence to temperature. Constitutive analysis of the hot deformation process by Zener–Hollomon parameter (Z) also indicated a remarkable increase in the deformation activation energy (about 40%). Likewise, SiC nanoparticles (up to...

    Abstract
Event-related potential (ERP) extraction from ongoing electroencephalograph (EEG) and its enhancement is one of the long-established problems in EEG signal processing. Most of the previous studies have focused mainly on the ERP enhancement without considering the multi-dimentional structure of the signal. In order to take advantage of this property, we propose a tensor-based solution with trial-by-trial concatenated ERP data. Then we develop an algorithm based on low-rank Tucker decomposition to detect single trial ERP component with maximized signal to noise ratio (SNR). In other words, by using tensor algebra we consider both self-similarity in intratrials and global correlation in spatial...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yousefi Bonab, Soheil (Author) ; Banazadeh, Afshin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The subject of this study is design of a linear quadratic Gaussian controller based on identification of dynamic behavior of unmanned model helicopter “Raptor” in its hover flight. To achieve this end, first, the helicopter linear transfer functions are identified with frequency response method by applying specific inputs to the model of Raptor in the X-Plane software and receiving system outputs via Simulink. Next, using the identified dynamic model of the helicopter, an optimum linear controller is designed for hover flight. As an optimum linear controller needs all the state variables, a Kalman filter is utilized to estimate them, using outputs of various sonsors such as GPS and gyro....

Low-rank Tensor Restoration for ERP extraction

    , Article Biomedical Signal Processing and Control ; Volume 87 , 2024 ; 17468094 (ISSN) Sohrabi Bonab, Z ; Shamsollahi, M. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2024
    Abstract
Event-related potential (ERP) data is essentially multi-dimensional, with correlated data in some spaces. Therefore, matrix and vector analysis results in structural information loss. Tensor decomposition can be used to explore the shared structural information of ERP signal among related conditions. Perceiving the decaying trends of the singular value changes of unfolding matrices indicate that they are low-rank matrices. Based on this assumption, in this work, a low-rank tensor restoration (LTR) method is proposed. An operator splitting method known as the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is adapted to tackle the proposed optimization problem with orthogonality and...

    Abstract
Considering that automobile weigth reduction in industry is important, improvement the strength of low carbon steel sheets is important. These sheets can be supported the service condition in lower thicknesses. Bulk nano-structured materials have been mostly attracted in materials science due to their unique physical and mechanical properties. Severe plastic deformation (SPD) is one of the most efficient methods to produce ultra fine grained or nano-structured materials. Materials produced by SPD are of great importance because of (1) non-porous structure, (2) great mechanical properties such as high strength and toughness and (3) proper dimension for mechanical and physical testing. ...

Development of High Entropy Filler Alloy for Brazing of Precipitation Hardened Ni-Base Superalloy IN-738

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amirhossein Sajjadi (Author) ; Pouranvari, Majid (Supervisor) ; Tavakoli, Rouhollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Brazing is a crucial process for repairing and manufacturing high-temperature components made of precipitation-hardened superalloys. Boron-containing filler metals are amongst the most common filler metals used for repairing and joining superalloys. Although boron is an effective MPD in such filler metals, the formation of brittle boride intermetallics in the joining area (Athermal solidification zone and diffusion affected zone), due to the low solubility of boron in the matrix of superalloys, is inevitable. Isothermal Solidification is known as an effective technique for removing boride compounds in the joining area of brazed components. but as the time of isothermal solidification...

Elasto-Plastic Design of Thick-Walled FG Vessels under Pressure or Temperature Gradient Loadings

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mansoupour Bonab, Hojjat (Author) ; Kargarnovin, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays functionally graded materials have many applications in various industries. One of these applications can be the manufacturing of thick-walled vessels. Thick-walled vessels under internal pressure and high temperatures gradient require materials with higher strength, like Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) and can be reinforced by some mechanical processes like autofrettage. In this process under certain loading some part of vessels enters into plastic zone and upon unloading some residual stresses will be generated. Moreover it is very important to find out the depth of this plastic zone, In addition, minimizing the stress distribution vs. depth of plastic zone under applied...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sohrabi-Bonab, Zahra (Author) ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) is an increasingly important area in automatic identification. Low cost RFID tags (labels) are considered as the next generation of barcodes and their purpose is to compensate for shortcomings in computer recognition of objects using cameras. Supply chain management, access control, animal identification,e-passports along with the possibility of having e-health, e-agriculture and smart homes are few examples of RFID application developments. Despite its low cost, ubiquity, and widespread usage, RFID tags suffer from several major drawbacks, particularly information leakage and traceability. In RFID authentication protocols, both information leakage and...

Evaluating Effect of Number Representations on the Accuracy of Convolutional Neural Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aghamohammadi Bonab, Yeganeh (Author) ; Bayat Sarmadi, Siavash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Convolutional Neural Networks are a kind of neural network applicable in machine vision and image processing. The accuracy of these networks is dependent on different features such as network size network and input size. Today, researchers are improving the accuracy of neural networks by increasing their size. As a result, networks' computation will increase as well. The bigger the size of the neural network, the harder its hardware implementation. One of the proposed solutions to overcome this issue is to change the number representation while preserving the network accuracy. It's challenging to implement floating-point computation on hardware as it consumes a high amount of power and...

    Abstract
Since low-cost RFID systems are applied in ubiquitous varied applications, privacy and security of their users became a great concern. Therefore, the various authentication protocols have been proposed. In this paper, we inspect the three new-found RFID authentication protocols based on quadratic residue property via one of the well-organized formal RFID privacy models instead of intuitive analysis. We formally prove that modular squaring is the suitable technique to guarantee RFID authentication protocols against backward traceability. Then, the flaws are alleviated to resist traceability attacks

    Abstract
Conventional buffet onset methods for a 2D supercritical airfoil, SC0410, in transonic regime for various Mach number and various angles of attack have been surveyed. The existing methods give good results for high subsonic and transonic regimes, but demand a computational procedure to detect the buffet onset. One of these methods, trailing edge pressure divergence, that have been recognized inappropriate in other studies for supercritical airfoils, shows acceptable result at least for the present supercritical airfoil. A new method has been proposed by the authors for transonic regime that is based on the physical definition of the buffet onset from the surface pressure distribution...

Study of Microstructure and Hot Deformation Behavior of Aluminum Nanocomposites Reinforced with SiC Nanoparticles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mobarhan Bonab, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hot deformation behavior of Al-SiC nanocomposites was investigated in this study. Aluminum powders with mean size of 60 micron and SiC nanopowders (mean size of 45nm) in amounts of 1 and 2 volume percents, as reinforced part, were mixed and milled for 40 hours by planetary ball mill. After degassing at 450 oC for 1 hour, milled powders were pressed into Aluminum cans (in Argon atmosphere) and then hot extruded. Extrusion ratio was 1:14. High density billets (with 98% of theoretical density) were produced because of that high extrusion ratio. TEM microstructure studies showed that fine distribution of reinforcements and Aluminum Oxides obtained via this procedure. Hardness and Uniaxial...

Event-Related Potentials Extraction using Dictionary-Based Tensor Decomposition

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sohrabi Bonab, Zahra (Author) ; Shamsollahi, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In electroencephalography (EEG) systems, brain activity is recorded noninvasively through an array of scalp electrodes, enabling the analysis of neural responses to external stimuli. However, interpreting these signals remains challenging due to their low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), overlapping neural events, and substantial inter-trial and inter-subject variability. These difficulties stem from the inherent complexity, nonlinearity, and nonstationarity of neural data. This study is aimed at analyzing single-trial event-related potentials (ERPs) without relying on conventional averaging techniques, by adopting a structured modeling framework. The proposed approach is based on low-rank...

    Abstract
The effect of a magnetic field on the fully developed forced convection of Fe3O4 flow inside a copper tube is experimentally and numerically investigated. The flow is assumed to be under uniform heat flux. This study aims to examine the effects of the nanoparticle volume fraction, as well as alternating magnetic field strength and frequency, on the convective heat transfer for different Reynolds numbers. To ensure accuracy, the numerical results are validated by empirical results with similar geometry and boundary conditions. A satisfying agreement was achieved. The results show that the heat transfer increases with increase in alternating magnetic field frequency but...
