Abstract
Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) have rapidly advanced in self-powered sensing in transportation engineering owing to its great sensitivity, high energy harvesting performance, simple structures, and low cost. TENG can be used to improve walker and car safety, detect driver fatigue, assess traffic conditions, and extend the useful life of roads. However, collecting sufficient energy have become a significant issue, limiting the lifespan of such self-powered sensors. Abstract
Cuprous oxide powder was added to WO3 sol as a catalyst and the composite sol was deposited on alumina substrates by spin coating process and annealing at 500 °C for 1 hour. Sensing properties of the pure and doped tungsten oxide samples to H2S gas were analyzed. WO 3-Cu2O (1%) samples showed good sensitivity towards 250 ppb of the gas at 100 °C and 1 ppm at room temperature (25 °C). Abstract
We prepared porous silicon samples coated by continuous palladium layer in electroless process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed cauliflower-shape Pd clusters on the surface. I-V curves of Schottky like Pd/porous Si samples were measured in air and in hydrogen. These measurements showed a metal-interface-semiconductor configuration rather than an ideal Schottky diode. Variations of the electrical current in the presence of diluted hydrogen at room temperature revealed that the samples can sense hydrogen in a wide range of concentration (100-40,000 ppm) without any saturation behavior. Abstract
Porous silicon samples are obtained by electrochemical method on n-type wafers in room light. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the porous structure consisted of macropores under a thin microporous layer. Placing the samples in Pd-electroless solution causes the crakes inside the microporous layer and growth of the palladium particles in these crakes. Abstract
Porous poly-silicon (PPS) samples, obtained by electrochemical anodization of p-type poly-silicon wafers, were doped with Pd by the electroless process. Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy shows that Pd has diffused a few micrometres into the PPS layer. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis results demonstrate the presence of Pd as dispersed clusters on the surface. The variation of the electrical resistance in the presence of dry air diluted with hydrogen at room temperature shows that Pd/PPS samples have the ability to sense hydrogen at levels down to several thousands of ppm. Abstract
This study aimed to develop a drug carrier based on amine-functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (AAS-MSNPs) for a poorly water-soluble drug, curcumin (CUR), and to study its effects on α-synuclein (α-Syn) fibrillation and cytotoxicity. Here, we show that AAS-MSNPs possess high values of loading efficiency and capacity (33.5% and 0.45 mg drug/mg MSNPs, respectively) for CUR. It is also revealed that α-Syn species interact strongly with the CUR-loaded AAS-MSNPs, leading to a significant inhibition of the fibrillation process. Abstract
Dog rose (Rosa canina L.) fruit in different stages of proposed was used as a source of ascorbic acid. Two sample preparation methods for extracting ascorbic acid in dog rose fruit were evaluated. These methods used high performance of liquid chromatography (HPLC) for detecting of ascorbic acid, but differed in the preparation of sample (freezing and mild-temperature-drying procedure). Under optimized conditions, the freezing procedure demonstrated better results. The method was used to compare the amount of ascorbic acid in fully ripe, half-ripe and unripe dog rose samples. Abstract
The sol gel method was employed to prepare peroxopolytungstic acid (P-PTA). Palladium chloride salt was dissolved in the sol with different Pd:W molar ratios and coated on Al2O3 substrates by spin coating method. XRD and XPS techniques were used to analyze the crystal structure and chemical composition of the films before and after heat treatment at 500 °C. We observed that Pd can modify the growth kinetic of tungsten trioxide nanoparticles by reducing the crystallite size and as a result can improve hydrogen sensitivity. Multi-Walled Carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) films were obtained by Thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition method and coated by palladium sputtering process. Raman spectroscopy was used to study alteration in quality of the carbon nanotubes after the sputtering process. Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectroscopy showed that hydrogenation process can reduce the C{double bond, long}O to C-O and also produce O-H bond. Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the statistical and scaling properties of the California earthquakes' inter-events over a period of the recent 40 years. To detect long-term correlations behavior, we apply detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA), which can systematically detect and overcome nonstationarities in the data set at all time scales. We calculate for various earthquakes with magnitudes larger than a given M. The results indicate that the Hurst exponent decreases with increasing M; characterized by a Hurst exponent, which is given by, H = 0:34 + 1:53/M, indicating that for events with very large magnitudes M, the Hurst exponent decreases to 0:50, which is for independent events. © Versita...

Abstract
Jumps are discontinuous variations in time series and one expects that the higher jump activity will cause higher uncertainty in the stochastic behavior of measured time series. Here we study jump events in beat-to-beat fluctuations in the heart rates of healthy subjects, as well as those with congestive heart failure (CHF). The analysis shows that the interbeat time series belong to the class of non-continuous stochastic processes. The estimated drift and diffusion coefficients and jump characteristics of healthy and CHF subjects reveal the distinguishability of two subjects. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd and SISSA Medialab srl
