    Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures of two-dimensional monolayers are a relatively new class of materials with highly tunable band alignment, bandgap energy, and bandgap transition type. In this study, we performed density functional theory calculations to investigate how a vdW heterostructure of heptazine-based graphitic carbon nitride (hg-C3N4) and graphitic zinc oxide (g-ZnO) monolayers is formed (hg-C3N4/g-ZnO).     Abstract
    Based on the recently discovered two-dimensional non-Janus MoSi2N4 structure, we here study a well-designed two-dimensional Janus structure (MoSi2N2P2) for potential application in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) via water splitting. We first confirm the stability of the MoSi2N2P2 structure using first-principles’ calculations in the framework of density functional theory by calculating cohesive energy, phonon dispersion, and ab-initio molecular dynamics evolution. We then investigate electronic and transport properties of the structure.     Abstract
    The effect of etching time on the statistical properties of hydrophilic surfaces of SiO2/TiO2/glass nano bilayers has been studied using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and a stochastic approach based on a level crossing analysis. We have created rough surfaces of the hydrophilic SiO 2/TiO2 nano bilayer system by using 26% potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution. Measuring the average apparent contact angle allowed us to assess the degree of hydrophilicity, and the optimum condition was determined to be 10 min etching time.     Monodispersed semiconducting nanoparticles are usually synthesised in a liquid medium using injection of an appropriate solution. A key factor in attaining a narrow particle size distribution (PSD) is the temporal separation of the nucleation and growth stages, where the former takes place during the injection. Faster injection produces a larger number of nuclei and a narrower PSD.     Multi-Walled Carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) films were obtained by Thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition method and coated by palladium sputtering process. Raman spectroscopy was used to study alteration in quality of the carbon nanotubes after the sputtering process. Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectroscopy showed that hydrogenation process can reduce the C{double bond, long}O to C-O and also produce O-H bond. Furthermore, the electrical resistance measurement for Pd/MWNTs films was performed in a chamber with 1% hydrogen gas in a constant dry air flow.     In this paper, the effects of type and amount of various secondary carbides on the microstructure and cutting performance of Ti(C0.7N0.3)-12Co system have been investigated. Nine alloys with different amounts of WC, Mo2C and Ta0.7Nb0.3C additives were studied, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Vickers hardness (HV), transverse rupture strength (TRS) and continuous turning tests.     Here, a solution combustion method was employed to construct a photoanode based on bismuth vanadate (BV) composition. To curtail the fast charge recombination, phosphorus-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets (PCNS) in combination with BV are considered a potential approach. The prepared solution combustion facilitated the formation of a BiVO4-PCNS (BV-PCNS) hybrid photoanode with worm-like morphology with a simple setup.     Abstract
    The effect of bias voltages on the statistical properties of rough surfaces has been studied using atomic force microscopy technique and its stochastic analysis. We have characterized the complexity of the height fluctuation of a rough surface by the stochastic parameters such as roughness exponent, level crossing, and drift and diffusion coefficients as a function of the applied bias voltage. It is shown that these statistical as well as microstructural parameters can also explain the macroscopic property of a surface.     Abstract
    We propose a method for analyzing the data for the rates of exchange of various currencies versus the U.S. dollar. The method analyzes the return time series of the data as a Markov process, and develops an effective equation which reconstructs it. We find that the Markov time scale, i.e., the time scale over which the data are Markov-correlated, is one day for the majority of the daily exchange rates that we analyze. We derive an effective Langevin equation to describe the fluctuations in the rates.
