Abstract
In the present work, nano-composites of Ni-P-SiO2-Al2O3 were coated on a 6061 aluminum substrate. The surface morphology of the nano-composite coating was studied by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The amount of SiO2 in the coating was determined by Energy Dispersive Analysis of X-Ray (EDX) and the crystalline structure of the coating was examined by X-ray diffractometer (XRD). All the experiments concerning the corrosion behavior of the coating carried out in 3.5%wt NaCl solution and evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization technique. The results showed that an incorporation of SiO2 and Al2O3 in Ni-P coating at the SiO2 concentration of...

Abstract
A structure is suggested for spasing. The presented surface plasmon amplification by stimulated emission of Radiation (SPASER) is made up of a graphene nanosphere, which supports localized surface plasmon modes, and a quantum dot array, acting as a gain medium. The gain medium is pumped by an external light source. Since all the plasmons are carried on a graphene platform, the structure features coherent surface plasmons with high confinement and large life time. All the structures are analyzed theoretically using full quantum mechanical description. The main advantage of the proposed SPASER is its simple tuning capability of changing graphene's Fermi level, which is performed by either...

, Article Reaction Kinetics and Catalysis Letters ; Volume 85, Issue 2 , 2005 , Pages 347-353 ; 01331736 (ISSN) ; Gobal, F ; Sharif University of Technology
2005
Abstract
The rate constants of the oxidation of CO on a number of pure and La 2O3 doped NiO/Al2O3 solid catalysts were correlated with the mole percent of dopant, calcinations temperature, surface area, pore volume and pore mouth diameter by an artificial neural network simulator. The cross validation method had to be used due to the scarcity of the data. A three-layer network with 3 nodes in the hidden layer was found to simulate the system well. © Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest. 2020
Abstract
Biomass is becoming an increasingly widespread source of energy. Yet land, as one of the most important resources in biomass production, is surprisingly understudied in the literature of biomass supply chain planning. This study proposes a novel framework that combines the literature of bioethanol supply chain design with agricultural land planning to simultaneously address optimal supply chain planning and sustainable land use in a bioethanol supply chain. A bi-objective mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is proposed to formulate the optimal design and planning of a bioethanol supply chain network considering competition of food and biomass feedstock over the available croplands....

Abstract
The axisymmetric problem of a concentric set of energetically consistent annular and penny-shaped cracks in an infinite piezoelectric body subjected to uniform far-field electromechanical loading is addressed. With the aid of a robust innovated technique, the pertinent four-part mixed boundary value problem (MBVP) is reduced to a decoupled Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The results of two limiting cases of a single penny-shaped crack and a single annular crack are recovered. The contour plots of dimensionless intensity factors (IFs) at each crack front provide the stress and electric displacement intensity factors (SIFs and EDIFs, respectively) for all combination of crack...

Abstract
The analytical treatment of an energetically consistent annular crack in a piezoelectric solid subjected to remote opening electromechanical loading is addressed. Potential functions and Hankel transform in combination with a robust technique are employed to reduce the solution of the mixed boundary value problem into a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The limiting case of a penny-shaped crack in a piezoelectric medium with energetically consistent boundary conditions over the crack faces is extracted for the first time. The electrical discharge phenomenon within the crack gap is modeled utilizing a non-linear constitutive law and the effects of the breakdown field on the...

Abstract
Behavior of a screw dislocation inside a nanotube (NT) is considered in the context of surface elasticity. The elastic fields as well as the image force acting over the dislocation are derived and analyzed in detail. In contrast with the result of classical elasticity, the screw dislocation is shown to be repelled by free surfaces and occupy two stable equilibrium positions near them. The image force strongly depends on the NT's inner and outer radii as well as surface elastic characteristics

Abstract
The axisymmetric contact problem of a rigid inclusion embedded in the piezoelectric bimaterial frictionless interface subjected to simultaneous far-field compression and electric displacement is addressed. With the aid of a robust technique, the coupled governing integral equations of this mixed boundary-value problem are reduced to decoupled Fredholm integral equations with a constraint equation. A useful limiting case for the contact problem of transversely isotropic bimaterials is addressed. The present solution is analytically in agreement with the existing solution for an isotropic bimaterial. Selected numerical results of interest to engineering applications including the radius of...

Abstract
In this paper, we present an assertion-based verification methodology for system-level design. Transactionlevel concepts are integrated with an assertion language to introduce a useful, effective and familiar assertion description language. Our assertion verification language is capable of specifying system-level assertions for validating performance as well as functional properties. Proper-ties can be verified using offline simulation trace analysis. C++ trace checkers are automatically generated to validate particular simulation runs or to analyze their performance characteristic(s). Using a JPEG decoder as a case study, we demonstrate that the assertion-based verification is highly useful...

Abstract
As contemporary digital systems specifically embedded systems become more and more complex, taking advantage of system-level design is being more widespread. Many embedded systems must operate under strict timing constraints. One of the best methods for examining timing constraints in an embedded system can be done via the performance verification. In this paper an assertion-based verification methodology has been proposed for verifying system-level timing constraints in an embedded system. Performance assertions are specified by an assertion language at the transaction-level of abstraction. A Turing machine and a structure named performance evaluator have been coupled to provide a...

Abstract
Nowadays, distributed network systems are broadly using in embedded, real-time and networked control systems. Since they often operate under strict timing constraints, the timing verification is an important and critical phase during the design of them. On the other hand, as contemporary digital systems become more and more complex, taking advantage of the systemlevel design is gaining more widespread acceptance. Beginning from the transaction-level of abstraction is a common and effective method for deploying the system-level design. This paper presents a methodology for evaluation of timing constraints in a distributed network system specified at transactionlevel of abstraction. Timing...

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are one of the major causes of death in the world; atherosclerosis being one aspect. Carotid bifurcation is one of the sites that are vulnerable to this disease. Wall Shear Stress (WSS) is known to be responsible for the process of atherogenesis. In this study, we have simulated the blood flow for Newtonian and non-Newtonian, steady and unsteady, flow conditions in three idealistic and five realistic geometries. A risk factor has been presented based on the results of wall shear stress and, then, a relation was found between geometrical features and the wall shear stress risk factor. Our main conclusions are: 1) The non-Newtonian behavior of blood elevates the value...

Abstract
The wetting property of spherical particles in a hexagonal close-packed (HCP) ordering from extended Gibbs free energy (GFE) and Laplace pressure view points is studied. A formalism is proposed to predict the contact angle (θ) of a droplet on the HCP films and penetration angle (α) of the liquid on the spherical particles. Then, the extended Laplace pressure for the layered HCP ordering is calculated and a correlation between the wetting angle, sign of pressure, and pressure gradient is achieved. Our results show that the sign and the slope of pressure are important criteria for determining the wettability state and it is found that the contact angle is independent of the particle radius, as...

Abstract
Stability of Cassie-Baxter (CB) state is very critical in application of superhydrophobic surfaces. The most industrial applications of superhydrophobic surfaces are limited by the transition from the CB state to Wenzel (W) state. In this research, CB state stability of branched hierarchical ZnO nanowires (BH-ZnO NWs) was investigated as compared with ZnO nanowires (ZnO NWs) by using theoretical and experimental approaches. For this purpose, surface of the BH-ZnO NWs and ZnO NWs were modified by thin layers of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS). The MTMS thickness was optimized by varying NH4F (0, 5, 10, 20 μL) as used catalyst. The highest water contact angle (WCA) was measured at about 153 ± 3°...

Abstract
Time-dependent model is presented to simulate random lasers in the presence of an inhomogeneous gain medium. PbSe quantum dots (QDs) with an arbitrary size distribution are treated as an inhomogeneous gain medium. By introducing inhomogeneity of the PbSe QDs in polarization, rate, and Maxwell's equations, our model is constructed for a one-dimensional disordered system. By employing the finite difference time-domain method, the governing equations are numerically solved and lasing spectra and spatial distribution of the electric field are calculated. The effect of increasing the pumping rate on the laser characteristics is investigated. The results show that the number of lasing modes and...

Abstract
It has been proposed that emission spectrum of random lasers with magnetically active semiconductor constituents can be made tunable by external magnetic fields. By employing the FDTD method, the spectral intensity and spatial distribution of electric field are calculated in the presence of an external magnetic field. It is numerically shown that due to the magneto-optical Voigt effect, the emission spectrum of a semiconductor-based random laser can be made tunable by adjusting the external magnetic field. The effect of magnetic field on the localization length of the laser modes is investigated. It is also shown that the spatial distribution of electric field exhibited remarkable...
