However, a third party trying to eavesdrop information from communication channel and treat channel security , quantum cryptography or quantum key distribution (QKD) is the secure communication method which is based on the quantum mechanical principles can...

Angular Momentum Compensation and Sorting of Optical Modes in Optical Fiber

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ghorbani, Fatemeh (Author) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Farman, Farnaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Electromagnetic field modes have several degrees of freedom, including polarization, orbital angular momentum, and radial order, which can be described by orthogonal modes. By using all the degrees of freedom in communication, the channel capacity can be increased dramatically. With the aim of increasing the capacity and correcting the errors created along the optical fiber, two important issues have been addressed in this thesis. First, the states propagated in the fiber may be disrupted by many unwanted factors and may not be transmitted correctly. Therefore, measures should be taken to minimize the impact of these factors as much as possible or to compensate for their effects. In the...

Detection of High Frequency Oscillations from ECoG Recordings in Epileptic Patients

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gharebaghi Asl, Fatemeh (Author) ; Hajipour, Sepideh (Supervisor) ; Sinaei, Farnaz (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The processing of brain signals, including the electrocorticogram (ECoG) signal, is widely used in the investigation of neurological diseases. Conventionally, the ECoG signal has frequency components up to the range of 80 Hz. Studies have proven that in some conditions, such as epilepsy, the brain signal includes frequency components higher than 80 Hz, which are called high-frequency oscillations (HFO). Therefore, HFOs are recognized as a biomarker for epilepsy. The aim of this thesis is to review the previous methods of detecting HFOs and to present new methods with greater efficiency in the direction of diagnosis or treatment of epileptic patients. For this purpose, we used the ECoG data...

Improving CCA-based methods for SSVEP classification using a new graph reference signal

    , Article 2024 31st National and 9th International Iranian Conference on Biomedical Engineering, ICBME 2024 ; 2024 , Pages 468-475 ; 979-833152971-0 (ISBN) Noori, N ; Sardouie, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2024
    Abstract
Brain-computer interface (BCI) systems enable individuals to control external devices through brain activity. Among the various paradigms in the BCI domain, steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEPs) are particularly dominant. One of the most effective methods for frequency detection in SSVEP-based BCIs is canonical correlation analysis (CCA). In standard CCA, a sine-cosine signal is used as a reference signal, which may not be optimal for SSVEP recognition. In this paper, we propose a novel graph reference signal that preserves a sinusoidal form, yet exhibits temporal smoothness on a graph learned from the reference signal. We employ an alternating optimization approach to obtain the...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Kavehvash, Zahra (Author) ; Mehrany, Khashayar (Supervisor) ; Bagheri, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Massoumian, Farnaz (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis a rigorous approach toward systematic quantification of qualitative fea-tures in a three-dimensional (3D) integral imaging is proposed. Incorporating the concepts of sampling rays and sampling points, the first approach is based on geo-metrical optics and quantifies the lateral and depth resolutions of the system within the field-of-view (FOV) and depth-of-field (DOF). The obtained results are justified through experiments. In the next step, the principals of wave optics are employed to measure the lateral and depth resolutions of the system. To this end, the concept of point-spread function is generalized to three-dimensional imaging systems. Through this systematic approach the...

To ensure security and privacy, the system incorporates end-to-end encryption and secure HTTPS-based...

Graph Learning from Incomplete Graph Signals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noori, Alireza (Author) ; Babaiezadeh, Massoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Graph learning problem aims to infer a meaningful graph structure from a dataset that can effectively represent the relationships among its data points. With the emergence of graph signal processing, efficient methods for graph learning have been introduced, which leverage the smoothness assumption of signals to learn the underlying graph. However, these methods typically require access to all data points, while in practical applications this is not always feasible. In this Master's Thesis, an optimization problem is proposed that simultaneously learns the underlying graph and estimates the missing data points from a dataset of graph signals. To solve the proposed optimization problem, a...

Improving CCA-Based methods for SSVEP classification using a common source graph

    , Article Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE ; Issue 2024 , 2024 ; 21647054 (ISSN) Noori, N ; Hajipour Sardouie, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    IEEE  2024
    Abstract
Steady State Visual Evoked Potential (SSVEP)-based Brain Computer Interfaces (BCIs) is one of the most prevalent methods in BCIs. The main purpose of these systems is to detect the frequency of SSVEP to understand which visual stimulus a person is looking at. Various methods have been proposed to detect the frequency of SSVEP. One of the most widely used methods is the Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) algorithm. Despite the simplicity and efficiency of the CCA algorithm, none of the methods based on CCA have incorporated the graph structure presented in the EEG and reference signals into the CCA cost function. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach that considers the graph...

Transmission of Analog Signals in Fading Channels using HARQ

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noori, Nima (Author) ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation we will study the problem of transmitting the information of continuous source over fading channel, especially when the transmitter does not have complete information about the channel status. In this situation we will have a tradeoff between the Quality of received packets and the Reliability in transmissions. To increase the quality of packets, for example, we should increase the quantization, and therefore, the transmission rates at the transmitter. But this will also increase the Error Probability at the receiver. It means that if the receiver gets the transmitted packet, it will have a better estimation of information source, but it is likely that error happens and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noori Ghezeldareh, Maral (Author) ; Borghei, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Tehran Refinery, as an industrial center that has significant water consumption in Tehran, intends to use the flow of water from the treatment plant south of Tehran after final preparation, with the aim of managing water resources and meeting its needs. In these filters, the removal of organic matter is performed by the adsorption process as well as the biodegradation process by microorganisms grown on activated carbon. The presence of biofilm leads to continuous bio-regeneration of activated carbon during the water treatment process. Therefore, in this study, by examining the performance of these...

An Empirical Study on the Use of Cross-Project Clones

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keshani, Mehdi (Author) ; Heydar Noori, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Code clones are similar code snippets in software projects. Code clones, along with their disadvantages and applications, have long been studied by researchers. In recent years, due to the popularity of open source software, using software development ecosystems such as GitHub have increased dramatically. These ecosystems allow their users to perform high-quality software development without the need for physical presence. A number of previous studies have shown that software is being developed or modified repeatedly and many defects in software projects are duplicates. Finding these recurring codes and defects may be useful for software developers. Given that finding and fixing software...
