Modeling, Identification and Velocity Estimation of Planar Hybrid Microrobot
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Vossoughi, Gholam Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Microrobots are the robots which manufactured or operated in micro dimentions. High accuracy, compatibility with harsh situations and caring or assembling in micro dimensions are the most important advantages of these robots. Manufacturing new microrobots with higher speed or increasing the velocity of existed microrobots is the discussion of these days.An A-shape microrobot designed and manufacturared before. The goal of this thesis is to model, identify the friction and observe the velocity of the A-shape microrobot. In low speeds both legs of microrobots are on the ground; it walks with the stick-slip motion principle. Increasing the velocity of the microrobot causes separation of one or...
Reliability Analysis of a Thrust Vector Control (TVC) System
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pourtakdoost, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Reliability modeling, analysis and computation of a Thrust Vector Control System (TVC) is investigated. In this respect, first the TVC subsystems including the jet vanes (JVs), sensors and actuators,... are identified and their pertinent Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) is depicted. Subsequently static reliability of a jet vane is calculated considering both structural and thermal loadings via related verified limit state functions. In addition, a sensitivity analysis is performed that identifies the key JVs design parameters from a reliability point of view. Next, knowing the structural and thermal reliability of the JVs, static reliability of the total TVC system is computed via utility of...

Abstract
A micro scale Timoshenko beam was modeled with strain gradient theory in "A micro scale Timoshenko beam model based on strain gradient elasticity theory" by Wang et al., European Journal of Mechanics - A/Solids, vol. 29, pp. 591-599, 7//2010. Looking at the modeling of the beam, a mistake in deriving the effect of classical moment has occurred. The classical boundary conditions of a Timoshenko beam could not be derived going backward from the strain gradient Timoshenko beam theory which has been presented in aforementioned paper. In this comment, the contradiction has been shown and the correct form of the boundary conditions and final equations has been derived

Abstract
Vibration suppression of a strain gradient Euler-Bernoulli beam in presence of disturbance and uncertainties is considered in this investigation. Vibration of the system is suppressed by an adaptive boundary controller which has robustness to the environmental and control effort disturbances. The direct Lyapunov stability theorem is used to design the controller and adaptation law. The numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Abstract
In this paper, modeling and vibration control of a strain-gradient clamped-free Euler-Bernoulli micro-beam exposed to varying disturbance is studied. A strain-gradient model of the Euler-Bernoulli micro-beam is represented in this paper and consisted of one partial differential equation and six ordinary equations as governing motion equation and boundary conditions, respectively. A boundary controller is proposed to suppress the system's vibration. The controller is derived based on the direct Lyapunov method. An adaptation law is devised to assure system's stability under parametric uncertainties. With the proposed adaptive robust boundary control, uniform boundedness under environmental...

, Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings (IMECE) ; Volume 4A , 2014 ; Khodabakhsh, M ; Vossoughi, G. R ; Sharif University of Technology
2014
Abstract
In this paper a magnetic levitation system is modeled and an eddy current based damping force is identified and used for position control of the levitated object in the system. In the magnetic levitation technology, contactless manipulation of a levitated object is done by use of magnetic fields. Also, the eddy-current based force is used to damp the motion of the levitated object. Eddy-current is generated in a plate which is placed underneath the levitated object due to the change of current in an electromagnet and the motion of the levitated object. First, using finite element method (FEM), the magnetic levitation system is modeled and the eddy-current based force acting on the levitated...
Boundary control of a marine riser pipe conveying fluid
, Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings (IMECE) ; Vol. 4A , 2014 ; ISBN: 9780791846476 ; Shirazi, M. J ; Salarieh, H ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this paper, the model of pipe conveying fluid, like marine risers, is modeled with the effect of the interaction between the fluid and structure. A torque is assumed at one end of the pipe to control the vibration of the pipe. The stability of the pipe under time varying disturbance in forced vibration using boundary control law is proved. Exponential stability can be achieved under the free vibration condition. The proposed control law is simple and could be attained by some simple sensors at the end of the pipe. The control law is independent from system parameters so the controller is robust to disturbances and environmental conditions. The controller is obtained via a Lyapunov...

Abstract
Chaos control of a spinning disk having transverse vibration is considered in this article by stabilizing the system on its corresponding unstable periodic orbit (UPO). At the first step, the system continuous-time dynamic equations are quantized by utilizing a proper Poincare map. Then, using the regression method a linear description from the obtained cross points is achieved around the corresponding fixed point of the target UPO. Finally, through solving the Riccati equation, an optimal controller is introduced which stabilizes the system on its unstable fixed point. At the end, the effectiveness of the proposed control method is examined through numerical simulations. © SAGE Publications...

Abstract
Design and control of micro robots have been one of the interesting fields in robotics in recent years. One class of these micro robots is the legged robots. Various designs of legged robots have been proposed in the literature. All designs rely on friction for locomotion. In this paper dynamic model of a planar two-legged micro robot is presented using Luger friction model, and an adaptive neural controller used to control the robot to improve robustness and velocity of the robot. As mentioned earlier, friction plays an important role in locomotion of the legged robots. However, especially in legged micro robots, it is difficult to model the frictional force correctly since environmental...
A misbehavior‐tolerant multipath routing protocol for wireless Ad hoc networks [electronic resource]
, Article International Journal of Research in Wireless Systems (IJRWS) ; Vol. 2, Issue 9, pp. , Sep. 2013 ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza ; Aref, Mohammad Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Secure routing is a major key to service maintenance in ad hoc networks. Ad hoc nature exposes the network to several types of node misbehavior or attacks. As a result of the resource limitations in such networks nodes may have a tendency to behave selfishly. Selfish behavior can have drastic impacts on network performance. We have proposed a Misbehavior-Tolerant Multipath Routing protocol (MTMR) which detects and punishes all types of misbehavior such as selfish behavior, wormhole, sinkhole and grey-hole attacks. The protocol utilizes a proactive approach to enforce cooperation. In addition, it uses a novel data redirection method to mitigate the impact of node misbehavior on network...

Abstract
This book focuses on a central question in the field of complex systems: Given a fluctuating (in time or space), uni- or multi-variant sequentially measured set of experimental data (even noisy data), how should one analyse non-parametrically the data, assess underlying trends, uncover characteristics of the fluctuations (including diffusion and jump contributions), and construct a stochastic evolution equation?
Here, the term "non-parametrically" exemplifies that all the functions and parameters of the constructed stochastic evolution equation can be determined directly from the measured data.
The book provides an overview of methods that have been developed for the analysis of...

Fabrication and Study of Mechanical Behavior of in Situ Microfibrillar- Reinforced Composites of Polypropylene/Recycled Poly (Ethylene Terephthalate)Toughened with Rubber Particles
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Alizadeh, Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The use of polymers is increasing day by day due to low density, reasonable price and ability to produce different products. On the other hand, the accumulation of polymer wastes in nature is one of the environmental concerns in today's world, which is mainly due to the widespread use of polymers in the packaging industry and disposable applications. In order to solve this problem, recycling is recommended as the most appropriate and economical solution. Because in addition to consuming polymer waste, it also saves energy and reduces carbon footprint.Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the polymeric materials which; It has a special place in the packaging industry and is widely used...
Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites with Spherical Inhomogeneities
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The improved properties of nanocomposites are not achievable with conventional composites. Scale effect is one the most important parameters in the physical and mechanical properties of polymeric nanocomposites. One of the physical phenomena, which can be related to the scale effect, is the very large interface between the nanoparticles and the polymeric matrices. Motional behavior and conformation of polymeric chains change near the nanoparticles surfaces. Due to high interface of the nanoparticles with the polymeric matrices the amount of these types of changes in the polymeric chains are so large that can change the physical and mechanical properties of polymeric nanocomposites. In this...
On small uniquely vertex-colourable graphs and Xu's conjecture [electronic resource]
, Article Discrete Mathematics ; Volume 223, Issues 1–3, 28 August 2000, Pages 93–108 ; Naserasr, Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Consider the parameter Λ(G) = |E(G)| - |V(G)|(k - 1) + (k2) for a k-chromatic graph G, on the set of vertices V(G) and with the set of edges E(G). It is known that Λ(G)≥0 for any k-chromatic uniquely vertex-colourable graph G (k-UCG), and, S.J. Xu has conjectured that for any k-UCG, G, Λ(G) = 0 implies that cl(G) = k; in which cl(G) is the clique number of G. In this paper, first, we introduce the concept of the core of a k-UCG as an induced subgraph without any colour-class of size one, and without any vertex of degree k - 1. Considering (k, n)-cores as k-UCGs on n vertices, we show that edge-minimal (k, 2k)-cores do not exist when k ≥ 3, which shows that for any edge-minimal k-UCG on 2k...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
In the field of high-pressure material science, diverse carbon systems under pressure have been intensively studied with interest in synthesizing new phases. A variety of these synthetic phases which have met various applications in today technology are called the amorphous diamond. The pressure-induced structural transition of carbonaceous material to amorphous diamond is realized by shock compression and rapid quenching. The shock compression and rapid quenching generate the high pressure (several GPa) and the temperature (several hundred K) in a fraction of a microsecond.Since the mechanical and electrical properties of the synthetic diamond are severely sensitive to the atomic structure,...
An Experimental Study of the Effects of Sweep Wing on the Boundary Layer of 2D Wing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Soltani, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Davari, Ali Reza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
The behavior of boundary layer under the effect of the sweep angle is considered. The measurements were performed by a pitot tube rake. Three models with various sweep angels at angles of attack -2, 0 and 2 degree were tested. Both tip and root of all wings were closed by flat plates in order to prevent the flow to roll-up. However the flow field on the wing was still three-dimensional because of the sweep angle. The velocity on the wing has two components; longitudinal and lateral. The cross flow emerges due to the non-equilibrium of pressure and centrifugal forces. The velocity profiles showed that the magnitude of cross flow was stronger near the leading edge of the wing. The cross flow...

Abstract
The numerical solution of differential equations in high dimensions has always been a challenge and has been associated with various computational difficulties. These equations appear naturally in a variety of problems such as financial mathematics, control, and physics, and their optimal solution with high accuracy and speed can open new windows on new applications. Conventional methods such as Finite element and finite difference method in high dimensions lose their efficiency, which is a barrier to fast and accurate calculation of these equations. In this dissertation first, we review some theoretical and practical aspects of deep neural networks and then we try to examine the recent...
