Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) decorated with Cu2O particles were grown on a Ni catalyst layer deposited on a Cu substrate by thermal chemical vapor deposition from liquid petroleum gas. Ni catalyst nanoparticles with different sizes were produced in an electroplating system at 45 °C using the corrosive effect of H2SO4 which was added to solution. These nanoparticles provide the nucleation sites for CNT growth avoiding the need for a buffer layer. The surface morphology of the Ni catalyst films and CNT growth over this catalyst was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). High temperature surface segregation of the Cu substrate into the Ni catalyst layer and its exposition to O2 at...

Abstract
In this study, the kinetics of aging in AA6061 and AA6061 with 5% volume fraction SiCp were studied and compared. The composite was first produced and homogenized using stir casting technique followed by hot extrusion with the ratio of 18:1. Then, both AA6061 and the composite were aged at three different temperatures including room temperature, 170 °C and 240 °C, while mechanical properties during aging were evaluated employing hardness measurements and tensile testing. Moreover, in order to assess the effect of plastic deformation on the kinetics of aging, a series of samples were first deformed by equal-channel angular pressing immediately after solution treatment and then aged in the...

Abstract
This paper presents a bi-objective VMI problem in a single manufacturer-single vendor multi-retailer (SM-SV-MR) supply chain, which a redundancy allocation problem is incorporated. In the hybridized problem, a manufacturer produces a single item using several machines that work in series, and stores it in a warehouse to replenish one vendor who delivers it to several retailers using the shortest possible route. A novel meta-heuristic, called hybrid bat algorithm (HBA), with calibrated parameters is utilized to find a near-optimum solution. To show the efficiency of HBA, the results are compared to the ones using the traditional BA and a genetic algorithm

Abstract
The vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is a common policy in supply chain management (SCM) to reduce bullwhip effects. Although different applications of VMI have been proposed in the literature, the multi-vendor multi-retailer single-warehouse (MV-MR-SW) case has not been investigated yet. This paper develops a constrained MV-MR-SW supply chain, in which both the space and the annual number of orders of the central warehouse are limited. The goal is to find the order quantities along with the number of shipments received by retailers and vendors such that the total inventory cost of the chain is minimized. Since the problem is formulated into an integer nonlinear programming model, the...

Abstract
In this paper, a multi-item economic production quantity model with fuzzy demand is developed in which shortages are backordered and the warehouse space is limited. While the demand is assumed to be a trapezoidal fuzzy number, the centroid defuzzification method is used to defuzzify fuzzy output functions. The Lagrangian relaxation procedure is first employed to solve the problem. Then, the model is extended to a constrained fuzzy integer nonlinear programming, in order to suit real-world situations. As the extended model cannot be solved in a reasonable time using exact methods, two meta-heuristic algorithms, named the genetic algorithm (GA) and the particle swarm optimisation (PSO) each...

Abstract
A field sampling campaign was implemented to evaluate the variation in air pollutants levels near a highway in Tehran, Iran (Hemmat highway). The field measurements were used to estimate road link-based emission factors for average vehicle fleet. These factors were compared with results of an in tunnel measurement campaign (in Resalat tunnel). Roadside and in-tunnel measurements of carbon monoxide (CO) and size-fractionated particulate matter (PM) were conducted during the field campaign. The concentration gradient diagrams showed exponential decay, which represented a substantial decay, more than 50-80%, in air pollutants level in a distance between 100 and 150meters (m) of the highway. The...
Buckling of cracked cylindrical shells with internal pressure subjected to an axial load

Abstract
Cylindrical shells constitute the main structural component in pressure vessels and pipelines. Buckling is one of the main failure considerations when designing these cylindrical shells. Defects such as cracks may develop during manufacturing or service life of these structures. These defects can severely affect their buckling behavior due to high stress field generated around these defects. Finite Element Analyses are performed to study the buckling behavior of cylindrical shells with and without a crack, under various internal pressures. Effects of crack length and its orientation on the buckling loads of cylindrical shells having a through or a thumbnail crack are studied. The results...

Abstract
The passengers inside vehicles could be exposed to high levels of air pollutants particularly while driving on highly polluted and congested traffic roadways. In order to study such exposure levels and its relation to the cabin ventilation condition, a monitoring campaign was conducted to measure the levels inside the three most common types of vehicles in Tehran, Iran (a highly air polluted megacity). In this regard, carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM) were measured for various ventilation settings, window positions, and vehicle speeds while driving on the Resalat Highway and through the Resalat Tunnel. Results showed on average in-cabin exposure to particle number and PM10 for...

Abstract
Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is an electrokinetic phenomenon which is used for manipulating micro- and nanoparticles in micron-sized devices with high sensitivity. In recent years, electrode-based DEP by patterning narrow oblique electrodes in microchannels has been used for particle manipulation. In this theoretic study, a microchannel with triangular electrodes is presented and a detailed comparison with oblique electrodes is made. For each shape, the behavior of particles is compared for three different configurations of applied voltages. Electric field, resultant DEP force, and particle trajectories for configurations are computed by means of Rayan native code. The separation efficiency of...

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the entrapment and movement of air pockets in the bottom outlet of dams and numerical simulation of the process of entrapment and entrainment of air pockets. One of the most common problems with bottom outlets is the air-water mixture flow. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the causes of air pockets in pressurized tunnels before service and emergency gates in the bottom outlets and to provide effective solutions to prevent the occurrence of unwanted air entrapment and many problems resulting from it. To do this, using FLOW-3D flow simulator, the way of entraping air pockets in the Bottom outlet of Darian Dam has been investigated and...

, Article Information Sciences ; Vol. 272 , July , 2014 , pp. 126-144 ; ISSN: 00200255 ; Sadeghi, S ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is a popular policy in supply chain management (SCM) to decrease bullwhip effect. Since the transportation cost plays an important role in VMI and because the demands are often fuzzy, this paper develops a VMI model in a multi-retailer single-vendor SCM under the consignment stock policy. The aim is to find optimal retailers' order quantities so that the total inventory and transportation cost are minimized while several constraints are satisfied. Because of the NP-hardness of the problem, an algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed to find a near optimum solution, where the centroid defuzzification method is employed for...

Abstract
In this research, a bi-objective vendor managed inventory model in a supply chain with one vendor (producer) and several retailers is developed, in which determination of the optimal numbers of different machines that work in series to produce a single item is considered. While the demand rates of the retailers are deterministic and known, the constraints are the total budget, required storage space, vendor's total replenishment frequencies, and average inventory. In addition to production and holding costs of the vendor along with the ordering and holding costs of the retailers, the transportation cost of delivering the item to the retailers is also considered in the total chain cost. The...
Application of unit response approach for spatial prioritization of runoff and sediment sources

Abstract
Evaluation and control of suspended sediment load as one of the main water quality concerns is important in large basins, especially in basins with planned dam construction. Success in sediment control measures depends, in particular, on proper identification of sediment sources. Since observations alone are normally not adequate for source prioritization/contribution in relation to the downstream sediment loads, hydrological simulation tools may be applied for spatial prioritization of runoff and sediment yield in basins. In this paper, subbasin prioritization was conducted for the Gharasu basin, located in southwestern Iran. Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was calibrated and...

Abstract
In this paper, a comprehensive analytical study is performed to assess the lycopodium-diesel dual-fuel combustion system in counter-flow premixed configuration. The system is modeled as multiple zones that are coupled together via proper boundary and jump conditions on interfaces. According to the respective reaction and transport phenomena in these zones, conservation equations of mass and energy are derived, non-dimensionalized, and solved by Matlab and Mathematica in an analytical way. The porosity of lycopodium particles and the thermal radiation from the reaction zone and the post-flame zones into the preheating zone are considered, in order to improve the realism and accuracy of the...
Mbtdd: Model based test driven development

Abstract
Test Driven Development (TDD), as a quality promotion approach, suffers from some shortages that discourage its usage. One of the most challenging shortcomings of TDD is the low level of granularity and abstraction. This may lead to production of software that is not acceptable by the end users. Additionally, exploiting of TDD is not applicable in the enterprise systems development. To overcome this defect, we have merged TDD with Model Based Testing (MBT) and suggested a framework named Model Based Test Driven Development (MBTDD). According to TDD, writing test cases comes before programming, and based on our improved method of TDD, modeling precedes writing test cases. To validate the...
Crosstalk suppression and high-fidelity measurement in 2-D tunneling of coupled Josephson junctions
, Article IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity ; Volume 22, Issue 4 , 2012 ; 10518223 (ISSN) ; Zandi, H ; Khorasani, S ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
We present a new configuration concept in which two similar Josephson junctions are coupled through a capacitor placed in parallel to a dc-superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) to improve the characteristics of phase qubits. In real coupled quantum systems, because of mutual effects such as crosstalk, entangled quantum states cannot be independently measured. The proposed two-qubit system is demonstrated to have a negligible crosstalk, obtained from the application of a single measurement pulse and an appropriate external flux to one of the junctions and the dc-SQUID, respectively. Surprisingly, the theoretically predicted fidelity for a single-qubit design increases to 99.99%...

Abstract
This paper presents a bi-objective vendor managed inventory (BOVMI) model for a supply chain problem with a single vendor and multiple retailers, in which the demand is fuzzy and the vendor manages the retailers' inventory in a central warehouse. The vendor confronts two constraints: number of orders and available budget. In this model, the fuzzy demand is formulated using trapezoidal fuzzy number (TrFN) where the centroid defuzzification method is employed to defuzzify fuzzy output functions. Minimizing both the total inventory cost and the warehouse space are the two objectives of the model. Since the proposed model is formulated into a bi-objective integer nonlinear programming (INLP)...
An analytical decision-making model for integrated green supply chain problems: A computational intelligence solution

Abstract
This paper presents an integrated mathematical decision-making model to reduce environmental footprints using process integration. By doing so, we address the research question: How can supplier selection, ergonomic factors, and green practices be integrated into mathematical decision-making models based on the vendor-managed inventory policy? We use the Branch and Bound method to provide optimal solutions and a metaheuristic optimization approach in computational intelligence for large-scale problems. This paper employs a multi-criteria decision-making method to compare proposed algorithms results based on six criteria. Our findings reveal that integrating the sourcing process with...
Figure-of-Merit (FoM) optimization in class-C oscillators
, Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 31, Issue 21 , 2024 , Pages 2032-2040 ; 10263098 (ISSN) ; Safarian, A ; Sadeghi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this paper, a new approach to optimize phase noise and Figure-of-Merit (FoM) in class-C oscillators is presented. This approach recruits DC voltage of the common source node of the switching pair transistors as an indicator to achieve the best performance of a class-C oscillator. The proposed indicator has the advantages of not introducing any loading efiect to the output node, and independency from PVT changes. The method is simple and applicable to any oscillator with class-C topology, and with some modifications it would be applied to other oscillator topologies like class-B. The idea is verified using theoretical analysis, and circuit simulations on 0.18 ųm CMOS technology at 2 GHz...
