Abstract
The velocity of the hot outflow gas in laminar premixed flame is one of the important properties of combustion, along with other properties such as temperature and flame components. In fact, laminar flame velocity has been employed in a multitude number of concepts ranging from engine design to achieving flame properties under turbulent conditions. In this research, a cylindrical Bunsen burner and appropriate TIO2 particles were used. Particles with diameters between 10-23 microns were used and the exit diameter of burner considered 14 mm. In this study, the equivalence ratio with a value between 0.9-1.2 are fed with LPG fuel to create a laminar premixed flame. As a result of the present...
Efficient Method for Data Aggregation for K-coverage in Wireless Sensor Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hemmatyar, Ali Mohammad Afshin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Technology advances in the era of wireless communications leads to the birth of a very useful network called Wireless sensor Network which is very interesting for scientists and researchers. While these networks consist of tens to thousands of tiny sensor nodes, they consume their energy from none-rechargeable batteries. Reducing energy consumption and extend the life of network is the most challenging requirement for these kinds of networks; in some environments like military training which precision and sensitivity are critical, it might take at least K sensors to cover the whole area and these conditions leads to a vast data repetition in network and as a result energy exhaustions in...

Abstract
We study the problem of fair allocation for indivisible goods. We use the maxmin share paradigm introduced by Budish [16] as a measure for fairness. Kurokawa, Procaccia, and Wang [36] were the first to investigate this fundamental problem in the additive setting. They show that a maxmin guarantee (1-MMS allocation) is not always possible even when the number of agents is limited to 3. While the existence of an approximation solution (e.g. a 1/2-MMS allocation) is quite straightforward, improving the guarantee becomes subtler for larger constants. Kurokawa et al. [36] provide a proof for the existence of a 2/3-MMS allocation and leave the question open for better guarantees. Our main...

Abstract
We conduct a study on the problem of fair allocation of indivisible goods when maximin share [1] is used as the measure of fairness. Most of the current studies on this notion are limited to the case that the valuations are additive. In this paper, we go beyond additive valuations and consider the cases that the valuations are submodular, fractionally subadditive, and subadditive. We give constant approximation guarantees for agents with submodular and XOS valuations, and a logarithmic bound for the case of agents with subadditive valuations. Furthermore, we complement our results by providing close upper bounds for each class of valuation functions. Finally, we present algorithms to find...

Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive study on the thermo-mechanical characteristics of oxide-coated aluminum nano-powder, which is a crucial property for their application in powder metallurgy, particularly in warm compaction process. A representative volume element (RVE) of oxide-coated aluminum nano-powder is analyzed under the hydrostatic compression test at different temperatures using the Reactive Molecular Dynamics (RMD) method that can predict the thermal conductivity of nano-powders by incorporating the interaction effects of density and temperature. The thermal conductivity is evaluated based on the Müller-Plathe's reverse non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (rNEMD) method, and the...

Abstract
We study the problem of fair allocation for indivisible goods. We use the maximin share paradigm introduced by Budish [Budish E (2011) The combinatorial assignment problem: Approximate competitive equilibrium from equal incomes. J. Political Econom. 119(6):1061-1103.] as a measure of fairness. Kurokawa et al. [Kurokawa D, Procaccia AD, Wang J (2018) Fair enough: Guaranteeing approximate maximin shares. J. ACM 65(2):8.] were the first to investigate this fundamental problem in the additive setting. They showed that in delicately constructed examples, not everyone can obtain a utility of at least her maximin value. They mitigated this impossibility result with a beautiful observation: no...

Abstract
In this paper we explore the existence of periodic solutions of a nonautonomous semi-ratio-dependent predator-prey dynamical system with functional responses on time scales. To illustrate the utility of this work, we should mention that, in our results this system with a large class of monotone functional responses, always has at least one periodic solution. For instance, this system with some celebrated functional responses such as Holling type-II (or Michaelis-Menten), Holling type-III, Ivlev, mx (Holling type I), sigmoidal [e.g., Real and mx2/((A + x)(B +x))] and some other monotone functions, has always at least one ω-periodic solution. Besides, for some well-known functional responses...

Feyerabend’s Point of View on Scientific Progress
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
Abstract
Feyarabend’s philosophy of science is against method and rule such that he believes that “anything goes”. However, he sometimes applies the term “progress”. Reviewing his publications shows that from his point of view, progress is qualitative and relative. So, unlike other philosophers of science Feyarabend ignores the clarification of the concept; subsequently, his applications of the term “progress” are somewhat ambiguous. However, by studying his philosophy, one may realize what should be done to achieve progress in any sense. The affirmative aspect of Feyerabend’s philosophy, while highlights the social and ethical elements, considering his humanitarian outlook as well as his special...
