Abstract
In this article, a computational model is presented for the analysis of coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical process with phase change (evaporation/condensation) in fractured porous media in order to model multiphase fluid flows, heat transfer, and discontinuous deformation by employing the extended finite element method. The ideal gas law and Dalton's law are employed to consider vapor and dry air as miscible gases. To take into account the phase change, latent heat and specific vapor enthalpy are incorporated into the physical model. The set of governing equations consists of linear momentum for the solid-phase, energy balance equation and mass conservation equations of water species (liquid...

Abstract
The main challenge in many applications of acetic acid is acid dehydration and its recovery from wastewater streams. Therefore, the performance of polyamide thin film composite is evaluated to separate acetic acid from water. To reach this goal, the formation of polyamide layer on polysulfone support membrane was investigated via interfacial polymerization (IP) of meta-phenylenediamine (MPD) in water with trimesoyl chloride (TMC) in hexane. Also, the effect of synthesis conditions, such as concentration of monomers and curing temperature on separation of acetic acid from water were investigated by reverse osmosis process. Moreover, the separation mechanism was discussed. The solute...

Abstract
A web-based system is designed and implemented as a risk communication tool to incentivize the public to take seismic risk mitigation measures. Risk denotes the expected monetary and social losses herein. The objective of this system is to raise the awareness of two audience groups, the general public and decision makers, about significant seismic risk in Iran. To address the general public, the system employs the notion of risk perception to put the results of sophisticated earthquake engineering risk analyses into perspective. The system also treats the epistemic uncertainty of user input due to the public's lack of technical knowledge through the notion of entropy in information theory....

Abstract
In this paper, a computational technique is presented for the isothermal and non-isothermal water injection into naturally fractured oil reservoirs. A remarkable number of naturally fractured reservoirs contain relatively heavy oils that could not be extracted economically; hence, the thermal recovery methods are extensively used for such reservoirs. In this study, the effectiveness of hot water injection over cold (isothermal) water injection in oil production is quantified. The influence of long and short fractures and their alignments on oil recovery are discussed. To this end, a 2D model for two-phase fluid flow and heat transfer is presented. The medium is assumed to be partially...

Abstract
Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) nanocomposites were prepared through a solution casting method using Multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) as nanoparticles and their morphological and thermal properties investigated. The X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy measurements showed that decreasing the ratio of MWCNT to OMMT for the same amount of OMMT creates better conditions for intercalation of PET macromolecules and promotes the transformation of OMMT nanostructures from the intercalated to exfoliated state. It was concluded that the Ozawa's model was not suitable to interpret the crystallization behavior of the...

Abstract
Accurate Partial Discharge (PD) measurement requires the expansion of the measurement frequency range to Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band. For this it is needed to implement modern techniques when monitoring an important element of power system, such as power transformer. Different kind of experimental models, such as insulation defect models, and the complete transformer windings models are used to simulate the partial insulation failure situations which occur in a real transformer. However, since in these models, some kind of simplifications are employed which may result in an electromagnetic waves (EM) propagation pattern different from what exists in a real transformer and encounter...

Abstract
Distal locking is a challenging subtask of intramedullary nailing fracture fixation due to the nail deformation that makes the proximally mounted targeting systems ineffective. A patient specific finite element model was developed, based on the QCT data of a cadaveric femur, to predict the position of the distal hole of the nail postoperatively. The mechanical interactions of femur and nail (of two sizes) during nail insertion was simulated using ABAQUS in two steps of dynamic pushing and static equilibrium, for the intact and distally fractured bone. Experiments were also performed on the same specimen to validate the simulation results. A good agreement was found between the model...

Abstract
Many recent studies show that Augmented Reality (AR) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technologies can be used to help people with disabilities. Many of these studies have been performed only in their specialized field. Audio-Visual Speech Recognition (AVSR) is one of the advances in ASR technology that combines audio, video, and facial expressions to capture a narrator's voice. In this paper, we combine AR and AVSR technologies to make a new system to help deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Our proposed system can take a narrator's speech instantly and convert it into a readable text and show the text directly on an AR display. Therefore, in this system, deaf people can read the...

Abstract
Recently, many researches show Augmented Reality (AR) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) can help people with disabilities. In this paper we implement an innovative system for helping deaf people by combining AR, ASR, and AVSR technologies. This system can instantly take narrator's speech and converts it into readable text and shows it directly on AR display. We show that our system's accuracy becomes over 85 percent on average, by using different ASR engines near using an AVSR engine in different noisy environments. We also show in a survey that more than 90 percent of deaf people on average need such system as assistant in portable devices, near using only text or only sign-language...

Abstract
Augmented Reality (AR), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-to-Speech Synthesis (TTS) can be used to help people with disabilities. In this paper, we combine these technologies to make a new system for helping deaf people. This system can take the narrator's speech and convert it into a readable text and show it directly on AR display. To improve the accuracy of the system, we use Audio-Visual Speech Recognition (AVSR) as a backup for the ASR engine in noisy environments. In addition, we use the TTS system to make our system more usable for deaf people. The results of testing the system show that its accuracy is over 85 percent on average in different places. Also, the result of a...

Abstract
In real-time packet-based communication systems, one major problem is misrouted or delayed packets which results in degraded perceived voice quality. If packets are not available on time, the packet is known as lost packet. The easiest task of a network terminal receiver is to replace silence for the duration of lost speech segments. In a high quality communication system, to avoid quality reduction due to packet loss, a suitable method and/or algorithm is needed to replace the missing segments of speech. In this paper, we introduce a low order recursive linear prediction method for replacement of lost speech segment. In this method a normalized least mean square (NLMS) as an adaptive filter...

Abstract
Medical images contain information about vital organic tissues inside of human body and are widely used for diagnoses of disease or for surgical purposes. Image reconstruction is essential for medical images for some applications such as suppression of noise or de-blurring the image to provide images with better quality and contrast. In this paper Kalman filter technique is introduced for medical image reconstruction. This technique is operated in time domain unlike the filtered back projection which operates in frequency domain. Results indicated that as the number of projection increases in both the collected ray sum corrupted by noise and by blurring the quality of reconstructed image...
The effect of Pd addition to Fe as catalysts on growth of carbon nanotubes by TCVD method

Abstract
The effects of Pd addition to Fe (Pd/Fe = 0, 2.5/7.5, 5/5, 7.5/2.5 and 1) and growth temperatures (920 and 970 °C) on density, diameter and growth mode of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been studied. SEM observations and TG analyses confirmed that the CNT yields depend on Pd/Fe ratios as (7.5/2.5) > (5/5) > Pd > (2.5/7.5) > Fe at both growth temperatures. TEM data showed that addition of Pd results in tip growth mode. From Raman spectroscopy data, the order of samples' structural quality (I G /I D ratio) are Fe > Pd/Fe (2.5/7.5) > (5/5) > (7.5/2.5) > Pd and the I G /I D ratios increase by decreasing the growth temperature. Films with higher concentration of Fe (Pd/Fe = 0, 2.5/7.5) contain some...

Abstract
During recent years centrifugal-based microfluidic devices known as Lab-on-a-CD have attracted a lot of attentions. Applications of these CD-based platforms are ubiquitous in numerous biological analyses and chemical syntheses. Mixing of different species in microscale is one of the essential operations in biochemical applications where this seemingly simple task remains a major obstruction. Application of centrifugal force, however, may significantly improve the flow agitation and mixing, especially when it is combined with the Coriolis force which acts perpendicular to centrifugal force. In this study, mixing process in minichambers located on a rotating platform under a periodic...

Abstract
Non-malleable codes are kind of encoding schemes which are resilient to tampering attacks. The main idea behind the non-malleable coding is that the adversary can't be able to obtain any valuable information about the message. Non-malleable codes are used in tamper resilient cryptography and protecting memory against tampering attacks. Several kinds of definitions for the non-malleability exist in the literature. The Continuous non-malleability is aiming to protect messages against the adversary who issues polynomially many tampering queries. The first continuous non-malleable encoding scheme has been proposed by Faust et al. (FMNV) in 2014. In this paper, we propose a new method for proving...

Abstract
A non-malleable encoding scheme is a keyless encoding scheme which is resilient to tampering attacks. Such a scheme is said to be continuously secure if the scheme is resilient to attacks containing more than one tampering procedure. Moreover, such a scheme is said to have the T-tamper-detection property if any kind of tampering attack by an adversary chosen from a predetermined class of algorithms T is detected. Faust et al. have introduced a continuous non-malleable encoding scheme based on non-interactive zero-knowledge (NIZK) which is secure in a strong model for which the adversary receives the tampered codeword as a response to its tampering query if the tampered codeword is not...
Maximum WSN coverage in environments of heterogeneous path loss

Abstract
We study wireless sensor network (WSN) node placement in an environment where RF signal losses vary with position. This reflects real-world outdoor environments where vegetation and topography cause nonuniform path loss. Many techniques that solve for a variety of objective functions subject to various constraints have previously been proposed for node placement. However, many of these methods make simplifying assumptions such as all nodes having the same transmission range. Our goal is to take the insights and approaches of this previouswork and extend it to real-world environments. The present work assumes we have a map that quantifies the path loss behaviour of the real environment. Based...
