    The effect of Pd addition to Fe as catalysts on growth of carbon nanotubes by TCVD method

    Abstract
    The effects of Pd addition to Fe (Pd/Fe = 0, 2.5/7.5, 5/5, 7.5/2.5 and 1) and growth temperatures (920 and 970 °C) on density, diameter and growth mode of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been studied. SEM observations and TG analyses confirmed that the CNT yields depend on Pd/Fe ratios as (7.5/2.5) > (5/5) > Pd > (2.5/7.5) > Fe at both growth temperatures. TEM data showed that addition of Pd results in tip growth mode. From Raman spectroscopy data, the order of samples' structural quality (I G /I D ratio) are Fe > Pd/Fe (2.5/7.5) > (5/5) > (7.5/2.5) > Pd and the I G /I D ratios increase by decreasing the growth temperature.     Abstract
    Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown on deposited Ni on macroporous silicon by thermal chemical vapor deposition (TCVD) method using CH4 as the reaction gas. Macroporous silicon was fabricated by electrochemical etching of P-type silicon in organic electrolytes. The effect of oxidation of porous silicon (PS) on growth rate, morphology and structure of CNTs has been studied. The SEM micrographs and Raman spectra indicated that the nanotubes grown on the oxidized PS are more homogeneous and regular than those grown on the pristine PS and growth rate of CNTs grown on oxidized PS higher than those grown on pristine PS.     This paper proposes an efficient many-to-many group key management protocol in distributed group communication. In this protocol, group members are managed in the hierarchical manner logically. Two kinds of keys are used, asymmetric and symmetric keys. The leaf nodes in the key tree are the asymmetric keys of the corresponding group members and all the intermediate node keys are symmetric keys assigned to each intermediate node.     Abstract
    Inserting the distal locking screws is a challenging step of the intramedullary nailing procedures due to the nail deformation that makes the proximally mounted targeting systems ineffective. A pre-planning methodology is proposed, based on an analytical model of the nail–bone construct, to predict the nail deformation during surgery using orthogonal preoperative radiographs. Each of the femoral shaft and the nail was modeled as a curved tubular Euler–Bernoulli beam. In this protocol which is based on logical key hierarchy, only the group key needs to be sent to new member at join. Then, using the group key current members and the new member calculate the necessary keys by node codes and one-way hash function.     Abstract
    The renal capsule tissue of lamb was irradiated with ultraviolet-C light and the treated samples were analyzed by uniaxial tensile test, dynamic mechanical analysis, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and contact angle measurements. It was shown that the skin cross-linking is dominant in low doses in accordance with the contact angle assessment. Conversely, the strong bulk degradation takes place at high doses. Similarly, the bulk cross-linking affects the mechanical tests as to enhance the stiffness at low doses, whereas strong degradation occurs at high doses that mainly arises from the strong bulk chain scission

    Background: Allergic contact dermatitis is a common disorder in adults and children alike and appears to be on the increase. The purpose of this study was to determine the sensitization trends in Iranian children with contact dermatitis. Methods: The result of 109 patch tests performed using the 24 allergens of the European Standard Series in patients below 18 years old from September 2007 to March 2009 were recorded and analyzed. The tests were evaluated at 48 and 72 h after performing. Results: The study population consisted of 72 (66.1 %) females and 37 (33.9 %) males. Hands were the most commonly affected anatomic site.     Abstract
    A wide variety of carbon nanostructures were generated by a Q-switched Nd : YAG laser (1064 nm) while mostly nanodiamonds were created by an ArF excimer laser (193 nm) in deionized water. They were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that the IR laser affected the morphology and structure of the nanostructures due to the higher inverse bremsstrahlung absorption rate within the plasma plume with respect to the UV laser. Moreover, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy was carried out so that the plasma created by the IR laser was more energetic than that generated by the UV laser

    We fabricated gas sensors based on field ionization from multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) arrays grown on porous silicon templates. MWCNTs were grown through thermal chemical vapor deposition. We measured breakdown voltages, discharge and pre-discharge currents of the device for various gases in different concentrations. Our gas ionization sensors (GIS) presented good sensitivity, selectivity and short response time. The GISs based on porous substrates showed higher discharge current and good mechanical stability in comparison to those which were fabricated on polished silicon substrates.     Distal locking is a challenging subtask of intramedullary nailing fracture fixation due to the nail deformation that makes the proximally mounted targeting systems ineffective. A patient specific finite element model was developed, based on the QCT data of a cadaveric femur, to predict the position of the distal hole of the nail postoperatively.     Abstract
    Electro-reduction behavior of testosterone at reduced graphene oxide/glassy carbon electrode (rGO/GCE) was studied. Cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) enhanced the reduction peak of testosterone. In borate buffer (pH 5.4) CTAB-testosterone showed a reduction peak at - 1.1 V (versus, Ag/AgCl). The increment of peak current obtained by deducting the reduction peak current of the CTAB-testosterone was rectilinear with testosterone concentration in the range of 2.0 to 210.0 nM, with a detection limit of 0.1 nM.     Abstract
    Using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), the present study focuses on their electrochemical hydrogen storage capacities. The results showed that the hydrogen desorption process is composed of two steps with voltages around -0.75 and -0.15 V. Hydrogen adsorption at -0.15 V took place at temperatures above 30 °C, and the amount of energy required for adsorbing hydrogen was 1.68 eV. The hydrogen storage capacity increased with increasing electrolyte temperature from 30 to 60 °C in both steps. The hydrogen storage capacity of the MWCNTs treated at different atmospheres showed that the decrease in the graphitization of MWCNTs led to the increase in hydrogen adsorption. The results also...

    Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) nanocomposites were prepared through a solution casting method using Multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) as nanoparticles and their morphological and thermal properties investigated. The X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy measurements showed that decreasing the ratio of MWCNT to OMMT for the same amount of OMMT creates better conditions for intercalation of PET macromolecules and promotes the transformation of OMMT nanostructures from the intercalated to exfoliated state.
