Tutte Conjecture on Nowhere-zero Flow
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, the notion of nowhere-zero flow on graphs in defined with values is an Abelian group. It is shown that the existence of nowhere-zero flow with values in H depends on only the cardinal of H. Also the existence of nowhere-zero flowwith values on Zk is equivalent to the existence of the nowhere-zero flow with values in the set 1,2,...,k-1 on group Z.It is a easily seen that the nowhere zero flow on the graph with bridge doesn’t exist. Also has been proved any graph with no bridge has nowhere-zero 6 flow.Concidentally, the existence of nowhere-zero 5 flow for graphs with no bridge isstill an open problem. In 3-flow case, recently it is shown that any 8-edge connected graph has...

Abstract
Voting has been considered as one of the principal of democracy which by this, people can announce their convictions and ideas officially. E-voting is a method of online voting based on cryptographic mechanisms. E-voting schemes by keeping voters' privacy safe and providing security requirement same as verifiability, fairness, coercion resistance, receipt freeness, undeniability, and eligibility has been noticed in recent years. Security of many presenting schemes is based on existence of trusted third party that plays an important role in process of getting and counting votes. Also, some of security problems which are in this scheme, originated from centralization and generic trust of third...
Two-dimensional random projection
, Article Signal Processing ; Volume 91, Issue 7 , 2011 , Pages 1589-1603 ; 01651684 (ISSN) ; Babaie-Zadeh, M ; Abrishami Moghaddam, H ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
As an alternative to adaptive nonlinear schemes for dimensionality reduction, linear random projection has recently proved to be a reliable means for high-dimensional data processing. Widespread application of conventional random projection in the context of image analysis is, however, mainly impeded by excessive computational and memory requirements. In this paper, a two-dimensional random projection scheme is considered as a remedy to this problem, and the associated key notion of concentration of measure is closely studied. It is then applied in the contexts of image classification and sparse image reconstruction. Finally, theoretical results are validated within a comprehensive set of...

Abstract
The theory of compressive sampling involves making random linear projections of a signal. Provided signal is sparse in some basis, small number of such measurements preserves the information in the signal, with high probability. Following the success in signal reconstruction, compressive framework has recently proved useful in classification. In this paper, conventional random projection scheme is first extended to the image domain and the key notion of concentration of measure is studied. Findings are then employed to develop a 2D compressive classifier (2DCC) for sparse images. Finally, theoretical results are validated within a realistic experimental framework. ©2009 IEEE

Abstract
Spectral manifold learning techniques have recently found extensive applications in machine vision. The common strategy of spectral algorithms for manifold learning is exploiting the local relationships in a symmetric adjacency graph, which is typically constructed using k -nearest neighborhood (k-NN) criterion. In this paper, with our focus on locally linear embedding as a powerful and well-known spectral technique, shortcomings of k-NN for construction of the adjacency graph are first illustrated, and then a new criterion, namely k/K-nearest neighborhood (k/K-NN) is introduced to overcome these drawbacks. The proposed criterion involves finding the sparsest representation of each sample in...
Designing Survivable Elastic Optical Networks to Support Multi-Class Traffic
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor) ; Beyranvand, Hamzeh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recently, elastic optical networks have attracted high interest to provide more efficiency and scalability in optical core networks. Due to the high transmission rates and the importance of the transmitted data in these networks, a failure may cause vast data losses. Thus, addressing the problem of survivability in these networks is of great importance. According to different time domain behaviors and reliability requirements of incoming traffic, supporting different quality of services is another important concern. On the other hand, using multi-core fibers is a way to scale the network capacity to provide high-speed transmission services but there is a concern that the inter-core crosstalk...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Zarrabi-Zadeh, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, significant interest has been attracted towards using directional antennae in wireless and sensor networks due to it’s decreased energy consumption, increased security and decreased radio wave overlapping. Substituting omni-directional antennae with directional antennae should be performed in a way that not only guarantees connectivity, but also minimizes radius and latency in network nodes. The problem is not polynomially solvable in general and effort has been made in recent years to present approximation algorithms to solve this problem. The approximation algorithms have been made possible using unit disk

Abstract
In the last few years, we have witnessed an explosion in applications of sparse representation, the majority of which share the need for finding sparse solutions of underdetermined systems of linear equations (USLE's). Based on recently proposed smoothed ℓ0-norm (SL0), we develop a noise-tolerant algorithm for sparse representation, namely Robust-SL0, enjoying the same computational advantages of SL0, while demonstrating remarkable robustness against noise. The proposed algorithm is developed by adopting the corresponding optimization problem for noisy settings, followed by theoreticallyjustified approximation to reduce the complexity. Stability properties of Robust-SL0 are rigorously...

Abstract
In this piece of work, a gravity model is suggested as Iranian non-fuel export model to OIC countries. The most important results out of this model are the acquired coefficients of two variables, namely “ECO membership” and “Economic and Trade Freedom of Importer”. At first, we expected that for importer, being a member of ECO would increase the amount of trade with iran. Surprisingly, this is not what we see in a model. In fact, as ECO has not achieved any tangible success in increasing trade between its members, eastern Asian Muslim countries has become an important trade partner for iranians. This result is compatible with other pieces of researches about ECO. “Economic and Trade Freedom...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today’s growing interest to the underwater explorations and navigations demands to design appropriate underwater communication methods and systems. However, radio frequencies which are widely being used in free space communications, can’t be a good candidate for underwater wireless communications, due to their sever attenuation in water. On the other hand, underwater acoustic communication has been widely studied and implemented in the past decades, inspired by suitable propagation of acoustic waves through the underwater medium. Nevertheless, acoustic communication systems have limited bandwidth, lower propagation speed and lower security than optical counterparts, which suggests underwater...
Mobility-Aware Resource Allocation in Hybrid Visible Light Communication and 5G Radio Access Technologies Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Visible light communication (VLC) uses huge license-free spectral bandwidth of visible light for high-speed wireless communication. Since each VLC access point covers a small area, handovers of mobile users are inevitable. In order to deal with these handovers, developing fast and effective resource allocation algorithms is a challenge. this paper introduces the problem of mobility-aware optimization of resources in hybrid VLC and 5G radio access technologies networks using the T-step look-ahead policy and employing the notion of handover efficiency. It is shown that the handover efficiency can correlate the overall performance of the network with future actions based on the mobility of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Outokesh, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Ahmadi, Javad (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Lithium has 9 isotopes which two isotopes are stable and remaining isotopes are unstable and have half-life. Lithium stable isotopes include 6Li and 7Li that their abundance is 7.53% and 92.47% respectively. Importance of lighter lithium isotope appears for its small cross section against thermal neutron and producing fusion reactors fuel in nuclear industries. Thermal neutron absorption cross section for 6Li and 7Li are 950 barn and 37 mbarn respectively. Interesting of these isotopes in nuclear industry is due to the large difference in the absorption cross section.6Li compounds implied for tritium producing in coat of nuclear fusion reactor with DT fuel. Following tritium is used in...

Design, Analysis and Manufacturing of Gas Foil Bearing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Foil gas bearings are compliant surface, self-acting hydrodynamic bearings that use ambient gas as their working fluid. They do not require external pressurization and are typically constructed from several layers of sheet metal foils. In high-speed, high-temperature applications the GFB’s have the advantage of developing higher load capacities than with fixed geometry gas bearings. Since GFB’s have a complex structure consisting of a spring-like substructure with an overlying flexible surface, there exists a great variety of permutations on any given design. At current work presents a 1D model for GFB with couple solving Reynolds and Euler-Bernoulli beam equation. This mean top foil assume to...
