In this study the authors present an in-depth study, analysis and discussion on maximum likelihood (ML)-based receiver for a typical spectrally encoded spread-time CDMA in the presence of multiple narrowband interference (NBI) signals in an additive white Gaussian noise channel. Abstract
In this letter we introduce an effective tool to demonstrate signal power behavior of a typical spectrally encoded spread-time (SE/ST) CDMA system using probabilistic approach. By defining power level profile (PLP), as the probability of stretching instantaneous power from a pre-specified threshold, we can find novel upper bounds on the signal power profile. We discuss various properties owing to PLP and elaborate on the main parameters affecting the PLP value. This paper considers the problem of interpolating signals defined on graphs. A major presumption considered by many previous approaches to this problem has been low-pass/band-limitedness of the underlying graph signal. However, inspired by the findings on sparse signal reconstruction, we consider the graph signal to be rather sparse/compressible in the Graph Fourier Transform (GFT) domain and propose the Iterative Method with Adaptive Thresholding for Graph Interpolation (IMATGI) algorithm for sparsity promoting interpolation of the underlying graph signal. Abstract
Causal Heart Rate (HR) monitoring using photoplethysmographic (PPG) signals recorded from wrist during physical exercise is a challenging task because the PPG signals in this scenario are highly contaminated by artifacts caused by hand movements of the subject. This paper proposes a novel algorithm for this problem, which consists of two main blocks of Noise Suppression and Peak Selection. The Noise Suppression block removes Motion Artifacts (MAs) from the PPG signals utilizing simultaneously recorded 3D acceleration data. Abstract
This paper presents a low complexity while accurate Heart Rate (HR) estimation technique from signals captured by Photoplethysmographic (PPG) sensors worn on the wrist during intensive physical exercise. Wrist-type PPG signals experience severe Motion Artifacts (MA) that hinder efficient HR estimation especially during intensive physical exercises. To suppress the motion artifacts efficiently, simultaneous 3 dimensional acceleration signals are used as reference MAs. The proposed method achieves an Average Absolute Error (AAE) of 1.19 Beats Per Minute (BPM) on the 12 benchmark PPG recordings in which subjects run at speeds of up to 15 km/h. Abstract
In this study the effects of HfB2 addition were investigated on the sintering behavior, densification and microstructure of ZrB2-SiC in the presence of B4C and MoSi2 as a sintering catalyst. 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt% of HfB2 was substituted with ZrB2 in ultra-high temperature ceramic composites of ZrB2-SiC. Additionally, the effect of using nano-scale against common micron size SiC was compared. All compositions were sintered for 1 h in 2100 °C and 2150 °C. In this study, magnesium boro/carbothermal reduction of zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) was employed to synthesize zirconium-based composite nanopowders of ZrB2–SiC, ZrB2–ZrC–SiC, ZrC–SiC, and ZrC. For this aim, three different temperatures of 1200 °C, 1300 °C, and 1450 °C were selected as the supposed temperatures for synthesis. Modified couple stress theory is a size-dependent theorem capturing the micro/nanoscale effects influencing the mechanical behaviors of the micro- and nanostructures. In this paper, it is applied to investigate the nonlinear vibration of carbon nanotubes under step DC voltage. The vibration, natural frequencies and dynamic pull-in characteristics of the carbon nanotubes are studied in detail. Moreover, the effects of various boundary conditions and geometries are scrutinized on the dynamic characteristics. In this letter we consider optimum code structure for positive optical code division multiple-access (optical CDMA) systems. Positive systems are a class of systems that operate with positive real numbers only. We consider the effect of multipleaccess interference in our model and show that code design for both On-Off Keying (OOK) and Binary PPM optical CDMA systems results in the same solutions.
