Development of fcc-Al nanoparticles during crystallization of amorphous Al–Ni alloys containing mischmetal: Microstructure and hardness evaluation [electronic resource]

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 604, 16 May 2014, Pages 92-97 Mansouri, M. (Mehdi) ; Simchi, A ; Varahram, N ; Park, E. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In the present work, fcc-Al nanoparticle development in Al90−xNi10MMx (MM: Ce mischmetal; x=2, 4) amorphous alloys was studied via non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and nanoindentation test. Results showed that the crystallization of Al88Ni10MM2 alloy occurred by the precipitation of fcc-Al nanoparticles followed by the crystallization of Al11MM3 and Al3Ni phases. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the aluminum precipitates had an average size of ~12 nm with a round morphology. Increasing the mischmetal content to 4 at% (Al86Ni10MM4 alloy) caused a three-stage crystallization process with a change in the size...

An inhomogeneous model universe behaving homogeneously

    , Article General Relativity and Gravitation ; Volume 40, Issue 5 , 2008 , Pages 1047-1069 ; 00017701 (ISSN) Khosravi, Sh ; Kourkchi, E ; Mansouri, R ; Akrami, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
We present a new model universe based on the junction of FRW to flat Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) solutions of Einstein equations along our past light cone, bringing structures within the FRW models. The model is assumed globally to be homogeneous, i.e. the cosmological principle is valid. Local inhomogeneities within the past light cone are modeled as a flat LTB, whereas those outside the light cone are assumed to be smoothed out and represented by a FRW model. The model is singularity free, always FRW far from the observer along the past light cone, gives way to a different luminosity distance relation as for the CDM/FRW models, a negative deceleration parameter near the observer, and...

    Abstract
Recently, smart water (SmW) and nanocomposite (NC) flooding have shown good potential for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes. Although SmW and NCs are found to influence the oil recovery, there are still some controversies regarding their performance on wettability alteration (WA). To address this important question, we synthesized new NC materials with high hydrophilic properties. In this research, in the first stage, a NC was synthesized. The obtained compound was known as (UiO-66-NH2/TiO2/ZnO) (UNTZ). For the identification of NC, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) techniques were...

Non-isothermal kinetic studies of crystallization in amorphous Al86Ni10MM4 alloy [electronic resource]

    , Article Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids ; 1 March 2014, Volume 387, Pages 36–40 Mansouri, M ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Lee, J. I ; Park, E. S ; Varahram, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Al86Ni10MM4 (MM: Mischmetal) amorphous ribbons were prepared by melt spinning on a child copper wheel. Non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of the amorphous alloy was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The crystallized phases were determined by X-ray diffraction method and transmission electron microscopy. DSC traces were analyzed by Kissinger method to determine the apparent activation energy of crystallization. Changes in the activation energy (Eα) with progression of crystallization were also evaluated by differential iso-conversional method of Friedman. For the precipitation of nanometer-sized Al particles, the activation energy slightly increased with increasing the...

    Abstract
One of the primary challenges of re-planning in high-speed urban railways is the randomness of disruptive events. In this study, an integrated disturbance recovery model presented in which short-turn and stop-skip service operations are optimized together to minimize the average of passengers’ waiting times. This study develops a discrete-event simulation model that employs a variable neighborhood search algorithm to maintain the service level under infrastructure elements’ unavailability. Due to the unpredictable nature of the incidents, the uncertainty associated with obstruction duration is experimentally analyzed through probabilistic scenarios. The computational experiments are...

ChOracle: A unified statistical framework for churn prediction

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering ; Volume 34, Issue 4 , 2022 , Pages 1656-1666 ; 10414347 (ISSN) Khodadadi, A ; Hosseini, S. A ; Pajouheshgar, E ; Mansouri, F ; Rabiee, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
User churn is an important issue in online services that threatens the health and profitability of services. Most of the previous works on churn prediction convert the problem into a binary classification task where the users are labeled as churned and non-churned. More recently, some works have tried to convert the user churn prediction problem into the prediction of user return time. In this approach which is more realistic in real world online services, at each time-step the model predicts the user return time instead of predicting a churn label. However, the previous works in this category suffer from lack of generality and require high computational complexity. In this paper, we...

General relativistic relation between density contrast and peculiar velocity

    , Article International Journal of Modern Physics D ; Volume 11, Issue 3 , 2002 , Pages 321-336 ; 02182718 (ISSN) Mansouri, R ; Rahvar, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Concepts like peculiar velocity, gravitational force, and power spectrum and their inter-relationships are of utmost importance in the theories of structure formation. The observational implementation of these concepts is usually based on the Newtonian hydro-dynamic equations, but used up to scales where general relativistic effects come in. Using a perturbation of FRW metric in harmonic gauge, we show that the relativistic effects reduce to light cone effects including the expansion of the universe. Within the Newtonian gravitation, the linear perturbation theory of large scale structure formation predicts the peculiar velocity field to be directly proportional to gravitational force due to...

A new distributional approach to signature change

    Abstract
Colombeau's generalized functions are used to adapt the distributional approach to singular hypersurfaces in general relativity with signature change. Equations governing the dynamics of a singular hypersurface are derived and a specific non-vanishing form for the energy-momentum tensor of the singular hypersurface is obtained. It is shown that matching in the case of de Sitter space in the Lorentzian sector is possible along the boundary with minimum radius but leads to the vanishing of the energy-momentum tensor of the singular hypersurface

The Role of Cosmological Constant in Gravitational Lensing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moradi, Mohsen (Author) ; Mansouri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In present thesis, the effect of cosmological constant, Λ, in bending of light by spherical symmetric mass has been studied. At first we obtain the Schwarzschild-de Sitter solution as spherical symmetric solution of General relativity field equations with cosmological constant, without we suppose the solution is static. Then we obtain gravitational lens equation by considering the space geometry and we benefited from several approach to specify the contribution of cosmological constant to the deflection angle. Furthermore we put new upper bounds on the value of the lambda independently of cosmological constraints. Finally for study the contribution of lambda in gravitational lensing...

Mass Reconstruction of XMM-NEWTON06 Data Based on KSB Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mahmoudian, Hanieh (Author) ; Mansouri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Gravitational lensing affects not only the position and number of images of cosmic objects but also their shapes. In the so-called weak gravitational lensing effects related to shape of the cosmic objects are studied. These require high quality images and wide field of view. Because of technology development and production of multi-chip CCD cameras in recent decades, we are witnessing an increase in the number of projects using weak lensing techniques. Taking instrumental errors into account, the first step in weak lensing studies should be the proper data reduction to produce final images in which instrumental errors are removed and have sufficient precision to be processed. In This thesis...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mansouri, Hossein (Author) ; Mazaheri, Karim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, steady state and transient performance of a single spool axial turbojet engine (without afterburner) is studied. Performance maps of main components such as; compressor, combustor and turbine are extracted from a similarity (geometry independent) approach. Then using nested loops method, steady state model of the turbojet engine is developed and using shaft dynamics and volume packing equations, transient model of the turbojet engine is analyzed. Steady state and transient simulations results of an engine are validated by experimental data and then effect of changes on input parameters such as; polar moment of inertia, Mach number, fuel heating value, pressure and...

    Abstract
In recent years, the use of embedded processors has grown increasingly in wide range of computer systems; so that most of manufactured CPUs are used in emebedded systems many of which are safty-critical systems such as medical devices, aircraft flight control, space systems, nuclear systems, etc. The incidence of failure in these systems can cause irreversible damages on human life, financial or environmental matters. Silicon process technology trends, such as reducing the threshold voltage, increasing the frequency and decreasing the size of transistors, not only caused increase in single-bit fault rate but also caused occurance of multi-bit faults. Due to importance ofcorrect operation of...

Colloidal Synthesis of CdSe Nanoparticles and the Influence of Processing Parameters on Growth kinetics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mansouri, Hamid (Author) ; Asgari, Sirous (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Over the past two decades, several studies have been investigated on synthesis and properties of semi-conductor quantum dots because of their applications in sensors, LEDs, detectors, solar cells, etc. One of challenging issues in synthesizing these nano-particles is their size distribution. In this study, Cadmium Selenide was synthesized by the method of colloidal synthesis. X-ray diffraction showed that the crystalline nano-particles have wurtzite structure. For obtaining a uniform size distribution, effect of various parameters such as molar ratio of components and reaction temperature on the growth kinetics of these particles, were studied. Results showed that molar ratio of Selenium to...

Identification and Assessment of Nomadic Transportation and Analysis of its Supply and Demand for Mainly Herder Nomads - Case Study: Isfahan Qashqai Tribe

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mansouri, Mehran (Author) ; Vaziri, Manouchehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Although villagers and nomads are an important part of Iran's population, the growth of cities has led to neglecting them and their needs including traveling and transportation needs. The aim of this study is to recognize and to study the transportation demands in a pastoral nomadic society. For this purpose, the theory of activity-based modeling was studied. Sequential modeling was chosen which considers the daily activities of each person as a result of five sequential decisions: a) choosing daily activity pattern; b) choosing primary tour time; c) choosing primary tour mode choice; d) choosing secondary tour time; and e) choosing secondary tour mode choice. In order to conduct a survey...

    Anisotropic and Asymmetric Early Universe

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Akhshik, Mohammad (Author) ; Mansouri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Inflation is the leading paradigm for the theory of early universe and the mechanism for generating the seeds of perturbation in cosmic microwave background and large scale structure. In this thesis various aspects of primordial anisotropies and the effects of long mode during inflation are studied. There exist two powerful tools in studying the effects of super-horizon inflationary perturbations, namely, Maldacena’s consistency condition and Weinberg’s theorem. However, there are inflationary models, such as solid inflation and non-attractor inflation, which evade these theorems and in this thesis we study their consequences and features. At first we study statistical anisotropy in the...

Cosmological Solutions of Enistien’s Equations with Axial Symmetry

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagheri, Fatemeh (Author) ; Mansouri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the most cosmological models which already have putted forth, metric has a spherical symmetry; however, according to the galaxy’s shape is not a real approximation. In order to build a more acqurate model, by applying a particular conformal transformation on the static vacuum solution, we introduce a new metric which is axially symmetric and also it approaches to FLRW metric at space infinity. The cosmological model according to this metric has especial features; The solution we have found represent a spacetime which is axially symmetric although it leads to a spherically symmetric Einstein tensor. Therefore, we have found a solution of Einstein equations representing a spherically...
