Abstract
In this work, the phenomenon of dynamic strain aging in a high carbon steel is studied and different initial microstructures including fine and coarse pearlite structures are considered. Tensile tests at different temperatures and strain rates are performed to evaluate the occurrence of dynamic strain aging and mechanical properties as well as to calculate apparent activation energies for onset and termination of dynamic strain aging. The results show that dynamic strain aging occurs for both microstructures while the initial microstructures alters the activation energies for appearance and termination of this phenomenon. Abstract
In this paper, a thermo-mechanical model has been used to predict the temperature history and residual stress distribution in gas tungsten arc welding of AA5251 plates. This model has also been utilized to estimate the residual stresses under different welding sequences, while in the model the effect of temperature on material properties were taken into account. In order to verify the predictions, residual stresses within the welded samples and weld pool geometry were experimentally measured employing hole drilling and macro-examination of weld cross-section, respectively. The purpose of this work is to assess the effect of welding fixtures on distributions and values of residual stresses during Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). The butt-joint GTAW of AA5251 plate is investigated using a transient thermo-mechanical analysis performed by the finite element program, ABAQUS. This study concentrates on the effects of weld sequence and welding fixtures on distribution and magnitude of induced arc welding residual stresses built up in butt-joint of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) AA5251 plates. Aluminum plates have been welded under different welding conditions and then, longitudinal and transverse residual stresses were measured in different points of the welded plates employing hole-drilling technique. A three-dimensional model is utilized to predict temperature distribution and fluid flow during the process of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). In order to evaluate the effect of the heat flux model on the accuracy of predictions, two types of heat sources - with different natures based on Gaussian surface heat flux and volumetric Goldak's double-ellipsoid heat flux distributions - are taken into account. In this work, thermo-mechanical behavior of an aluminum alloy during gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) is studied using a three-dimensional mathematical model. The model can be employed to determine residual stresses and their distribution after the welding operation. In this work, mathematical models are employed to predict transient temperature field, fluid flow within the melt zone and distribution of thermal and residual stresses during and after GTAW process. In this paper, the influence of powder-tool friction on the mechanical properties of the final product is investigated in pressing metal powders. A computational algorithm is presented for simulation of frictional contact in the compaction process of powder. The large deformation finite element (FE) formulation is characterized by the use of penalty approach in which a plasticity theory of friction is incorporated to simulate sliding resistance at the powder-tool interface. In this paper, a new criterion for passivity of haptic devices is obtained. This criterion creates a relationship between Coulomb friction coefficient, viscous friction coefficient, sampling rate, and the maximum simulated stiffness. The process of derivation of the passivity criterion is described in detail. This criterion is improved compared with other existing criteria and predicts passivity in haptic rendering more accurately. In particular, for speeds of less than 5 cm/s, the new passivity criterion should replace the previous criteria to avoid unwanted vibrations of stiff virtual walls. The field emission properties of MoO2 nanostars grown on a silicon substrate and their emission performance in various vacuum gaps are reported in this article. Several exoskeletons with various configurations and degrees-of-freedoms (DOFs) have been introduced in the literature, but not many have addressed the optimal selection of the mechanism's DOFs. This paper models the dielectric corona pre-ionization, capacitor transfer type of flat-plane transmission line traveling wave transverse excited atmospheric pressure nitrogen laser by a non-linear lumped RLC electric circuit. The flat-plane transmission line and the pre-ionizer dielectric are modeled by a lumped linear RLC and time-dependent non-linear RC circuit, respectively. In this work, a comparative study of hybrid solar cells based on P3HT and TiO2 nanofibers was accomplished. Electrospinning, a low cost production method for large area nanofibrous films, was employed to fabricate the organic-inorganic hybrid solar cells based on poly (3-hexylthiophene) and TiO2 nanofibers. The performance of the hybrid solar cells was analyzed for four density levels of TiO2 nanofibers which resulted in the average power conversion efficiency of about 0.0134% under AM 1.5 simulated illuminations (100 mWcm-2). Forming limit diagram is often used as a criterion to predict necking initiation in sheet metal forming processes. In this study, the forming limit diagram was obtained through the inclusion of the Marciniak–Kaczynski model in the Nakazima out-of-plane test finite element model and also a flat model.
