    The evolutionary versus the all-at-once picture of spacetime

    Abstract
    There are two metaphysical pictures of spacetime: The evolutionary picture and the all-at-once picture. According to the evolutionary picture, spacetime is nothing but the evolution of space over time. In contrast, the all-at-once picture considers spacetime as ‘a global, four-dimensional boundary value problem’ that can be solved only in an all-at-once manner, i.e. as a whole which is fundamentally four-dimensional and non-decomposable into spatial and temporal parts. The two most-known formulations of general theory of relativity, i.e. the Hamiltonian (or the canonical) and the Lagrangian (or the standard) formulations, enjoy the evolutionary and all-at-once pictures of spacetime...

    Abstract
    The design and evaluation of a novel approach to reactor core power control based on emotional learning is described. The controller includes a neuro-fuzzy system with power error and its derivative as inputs. A fuzzy critic evaluates the present situation, and provides the emotional signal (stress). The controller modifies its characteristics so that the critic's stress is reduced. Simulation results show that the controller has good convergence and performance robustness characteristics over a wide range of operational parameters. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

    Abstract
    Broadcast is among the most primitive collective communication operations of any interconnection network. Broadcast algorithms for the mesh topology have been widely reported in the literature. However, most existing algorithms have been studied in one-port and within limited conditions, such as light traffic loads. In contrast, this study simulates the broadcast operations, taking into account a wide range of traffic loads. Also, the performance evaluation of meshes in the presence of unicast and broadcast traffic is presented in this paper.     Epistemic Norms of Assertion and Their Intuitive Evaluation

    In this thesis I evaluate two rival accounts: the knowledge norm of assertion and the justification norm of assertion. The former posits that “S has warrant to assert P iff S knows P”, while the latter states that “S has warrant to assert P iff S justifiedly believes (or has justification for believing) P”. I conduct this evaluation by assessing their explanatory power in two types of cases. First, I examine cases that are allegedly evidence for the knowledge norm, such as: lottery cases, Moorean cases, and challenges.
