Abstract
Over the past few decades considerable experimental and numerical studies have been conducted on the Reinforced Concrete columns to Steel beams (RCS) connections. Most of those researches have focused on studying the joint failure modes and ultimate joint strength of specimens utilizing strong beams and columns with weak joints. Abstract
The cyclic behavior of RCS connection consisted of Reinforced Concrete (RC) columns and Steel (S) beams is studied in this paper. Two interior connections are investigated experimentally. The joint of the first specimen is designed according to ASCE 1994 guideline, while the second specimen has a new proposed joint detail. Self-consolidating concrete is used in both specimens. Abstract
Two new silver(I) complexes ((tptz)Ag2(NO3) 2 and [Ag5(tptz)4](NO3)5) with 2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (tptz) have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, 1H NMR, IR, fluorescence, UV-Vis spectroscopy and electrochemistry. The Cauchy-Born hypothesis has been used to concurrently bridge atomistic information to continuum model. It has been a prevalent assumption in computational nano-mechanics during the past decade. This kinematic assumption relates the deformation of the continuum to the deformation of its underlying crystalline structure. The Cauchy-Born hypothesis (CB) provides a hierarchical approach in the molecular theory of crystal elasticity to relate the continuum and atomic deformations. This kinematic theory has been extensively used as the constitutive law of continuum regions in multi-scale models. Abstract
In this study, water activities for the ternary systems of PEG6000 + sodium citrate (Na3Cit) + H2O and PEG6000 + potassium citrate (K3Cit) + H2O have been measured using an improved isopiestic method over the entire homogeneous mixing range at 298.15 K. From these measurements, values of the vapor pressure of solutions were also determined. The experimental data for the activity of water, collected in this work, were accurately correlated with local composition based models of the NRTL, modified NRTL, Wilson and modified Wilson. The results showed that these models can accurately correlate the water activity data generated in this work. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

To obtain wider openings than those provided by Chevron bracing, the braces are cranked and connected to the frame corner by an additional brace to form double y-shaped bracings. However, y-bracings are prone to instability and out of plane buckling, accompanied by low hysteretic energy absorption. Abstract
This paper presents the effect of volume of coarse aggregate on fracture characteristics of self- compacting concrete (SCC). Based on an experimental programme, a series of three point bending tests were carried out on 58 notched beams. SCC was prepared with coarse aggregate in varying percentages of 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% (as the percentage of the total aggregate volume). Abstract
Neglecting actuator dynamics in control of rigid manipulators can degrade performance and stability of the system. However, consideration of actuator dynamics usually requires measurement of joint torque or armature currents. In this paper, we present an adaptive controller for motion tracking of an n-DOF manipulator without using joint torque measurement. Semi-global convergence of motion and torque tracking errors to zero is proven. We show that the use of non-minimal representation of manipulator dynamics significantly simplifies its linear parametrization. Crossflow microfiltration of non-alcoholic beer is investigated numerically and it has been verified by experimental data. Due to the presence of particles with different sizes in feed suspension, a modified combination of three mechanisms of particle back-diffusion is developed to predict particle deposition and cake layer buildup during the process. The simulation results show that smaller particles (about 1μm) are the main contributor to the cake layer due to a minimum in back transport and are the main reason of the flux decline. The practical application of microfiltration in brewing industry is hindered by severe membrane fouling and subsequent permeate flux decline. A theoretical and experimental study on the effect of operating parameters, which influence the crossflow microfiltration of beer and beer quality was performed. A mathematical model is developed to better understanding of the fouling layer characteristics. The experiments were conducted for different ranges of pressures, temperatures and shear rates. A damage-plasticity based mixed axial-shear-flexural (PVM) link element for the inelastic analysis of frames is introduced in this paper. The multi-surfaces yield concept is utilized in the definition of the element. The yield surfaces are defined in deformation space and interaction of axial-shear-flexural deformations is considered by defining non-rectangular yield surfaces. This paper presents actual cases of steady reactive power oscillation of distributed generations (DGs) during parallel operation with the main grid. The cause of the problem was found to be the adverse effects of excitation system voltage regulation. It is shown, through preliminary investigation and detailed simulation studies, that how the excitation control system can be modified to overcome this problem. On-site test results verify the analysis results and effectiveness of the remedial actions. Abstract
A new manganese complex of the formula [Mn(tptz)(OH 2) 3](CF 3SO 3) 2·EtOH, (1, where tptz = (2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine) is presented, exhibiting an excellent catalytic activity and selectivity in oxidation of various sulfides to the corresponding sulfoxides with UHP (urea hydrogen peroxide) as oxidant under air at room temperature. A modified preparation procedure produces another new manganese complex of the formula [Mn(tptz)(CH 3COO)(OH 2) 2](CF 3SO 3)·3H 2O (2).
