Abstract
A method for two dimensional position finding of stationary targets whose bearing measurements suffers from indeterminable bias and random noise has been proposed. The algorithm uses convex optimization to minimize an error function which has been calculated based on circular as well as linear loci of error. Taking into account a number of observations, certain modifications have been applied to the initial crude method so as to arrive at a faster, more accurate method. Abstract
Transient liquid phase bonding of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel was carried out using a Co-based interlayer with 40 μm thickness. The effect of bonding time and solid-state homogenisation time on the microstructure and mechanical properties of samples was investigated. The results showed that isothermal solidification was completed within 30 min at a constant temperature of 1180°C. With increasing homogenisation time, at 1000°C, a more uniform distribution of alloying elements and hardness profile across the joint region was achieved. This paper presents the design and the application of a new self-powered hybrid electromagnetic damper that can harvest energy while mitigating the vibration of a structure. The damper is able to switch between an energy harvesting passive mode and a semi-active mode depending on the amount of energy harvested and stored in the battery. The energy harvested in the passive mode resulting from the suppression of vibration is employed to power up the monitoring and electronic components necessary for the semi-active control. In this article, transient two-dimensional mixed convection of nanofluids in the entrance region of a vertical channel has been studied carefully. The geometry under consideration consisted of a parallel-plate channel partly filled with a porous medium with a constant wall temperature. Binding of Mg 2+, Ca 2+, Zn 2+, and Cu + metal ions with 2′-deoxythymidine (dT) nucleoside was studied using a density functional theory method and a 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. This work demonstrated that the interaction of dT with these cations is tri-coordinated · (O2, O4′, O5′). Among the four types of cations, Zn 2+ cation exhibited the most tendency to interact with the dT. Interactions of α-D-glucose with gold, silver, and copper metal clusters are studied theoretically at the density functional theory (CAM-B3LYP) and MP2 levels of theory, using trimer clusters as simple catalytic models for metal particles as well as investigating the effect of cluster charge by studying the interactions of cationic and anionic gold clusters with glucose. The bonding between α-D-glucose and metal clusters occurs by two major bonding factors; the anchoring of M atoms (M = Cu, Ag, and Au) to the O atoms, and the unconventional M.H-O hydrogen bond. In this paper, the characteristics of a hybrid regenerative electromagnetic (EM) damper are first determined and experimentally examined. The main idea is to have two modes of operation for the EM damper, namely passive energy harvesting and semi-active modes. In the passive mode, the vibrational energy of an underlying structure is harvested and stored in a rechargeable battery. The harvested energy can then be employed in the semi-active control mode to supply the power demand for the required sensors and microcontroller. Abstract
This paper considers a cooperative space-frequency (SF) coded OFDM system and evaluates its performance over quasi-static frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels. An expression for exact outage error probability is derived and its tight closed form lower bound is presented. The tightness of the lower bound is demonstrated through the Monte Carlo simulations. The asymptotic analysis indicates that the proposed protocol achieves full spatial and frequency diversities available in the cooperative communication system. Abstract
Rcent measurements suggest the possibility of sharing spectrum among different parties subject to interference-protection constraints. In order to enable access to an unused licensed spectrum, a secondary user has to monitor licensed bands and opportunistically transmit whenever no primary signal is detected. In this paper, we study spectrum-sharing between a primary licensee and a group of secondary users. The structure of an asymptotically optimum detector based on the measurements of all secondary users is derived and the effect of the quantization error in such a system is evaluated. The results show the superiority of the proposed detector to other schemes. © 2007 IEEE

Abstract
We have studied the cosmic microwave background (CMB) map looking for features beyond cosmological isotropy. We began by tiling the CMB variance maps (which are produced by different smoothing scales) with stripes of different sizes along the most prominent dipole direction. We were able to confirm previous findings regarding the significance of the dipole. Furthermore, we discovered that some of the higher multipoles exhibit significance comparable to the dipole that naturally depends on the smoothing scales. The aim of this investigation is to study the effect of geometric tool parameters on mechanical and microstructural behaviours during dissimilar friction stir welding of 5 mm thick plates of AA 5086- O and AA 6061-T6. Three tool geometries were used, including a tool with a concave shoulder and a conical probe with three grooves, flat shoulder and threadless cylindrical probe, and a tool with a flat shoulder and a threaded cylindrical probe. In this work, temperature field and weld pool geometry during gas tungsten arc welding of 304 stainless steel are predicted by solving the governing equations of heat transfer and fluid flow under quasi-steady state conditions. The model is based on numerical solution of the equations of conservation of mass, momentum, and energy in the weld pool.
