Experimental Investigation of Acidizing in Natural Fractured Carbonates to the Optimum Injection Condition

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheikhi, Sobhan (Author) ; Ayatollahi, Shahabodin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In many cases, oil and gas extraction from reservoirs due to damage and permeability reduction near wellbore is lower than optimum level and reduces the flow of oil into the well. In fact, formation damage is the collapse of natural condition of reservoirs, In addition to delaying production and increasing costs, it causes early desertification of wells. Well stimulation methods are used to solve this problem and increase production. One of the most effective ways to increase the production of wells is well acidizing. In this study, the acid performance of the fractured carbonate reservoirs has been investigated. In this type of reservoirs, due to the existence of high permeable paths of the...

Parametric Study and Numerical Simulation of Spiral Wound Heat Exchanger Performance at Cryogenic Temperatures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseinian Khorasgani, Mohsen (Author) ; Afshin, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cryogenic is the study of physical phenomena at temperatures below 123 Kelvin. One of the applications of cryogenic science is the liquefaction of gases. In the liquefaction cycles of gases, such as helium liquefaction, fluidization occurs in the pressure reducing valve but temperature of the gas should be greatly reduced before it enters the pressure reducing valve. For this purpose, high-performance heat exchangers should be used. Spiral Wound is one of the heat exchangers that has ability to achieve over 90% efficiency due to its structure. Researchs in the field of design and simulation of spiral heat exchangers are limited and are done with a lot of simple assumptions such as constant...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hosseinian, Alireza (Author) ; Dehghani Firouzabadi, Rohullah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project, the forced vibrations of a pair of strips carrying electric current inside the fluid have been analyzed. Euler-Bernoulli theory is used to model the structure and von-Karman strain is included in the structural equations. In terms of the degrees of freedom of the structure, the bending motion along with the twisting is defined for the current-carrying strips. In this way, the system has 4 degrees of freedom, whose equations are coupled to each other due to the mentioned assumptions. In order to model hydrodynamics and the forces corresponding to it, with the help of numerical simulation of the movement of the strip section inside the fluid (CFD analysis), the corresponding...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zeighami, Amir Reza (Author) ; Ayatollahi, Shahabodin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Water injection is known as one of the most efficient and affordable techniques to displace the oil in the reservoirs. To increase oil recovery efficiency through water injection operation, recently low salinity water injection or water containing a certain amount of effective ions (engineered/low salinity water) is proposed. Besides, improving this technique is also adopted in the oil industry using certain chemicals like surfactants to change the interfacial tension or rock wettability for more oil recovery. In order to study and model the mechanisms involved during surfactant flooding, molecular dynamics simulation is utilized here as a novel technique. The advantage of this method over...

    Abstract
Autofrettage is a technique for introducing beneficial residual stresses into cylinders. Both analytical and numerical methods are used for the analysis of the autofrettage process. Analytical methods have been presented only for special cases of autofrettage. In this work, an analytical framework for the solution of autofrettaged tubes with constant axial strain conditions is developed. Material behavior is assumed to be incompressible, and two different quadratic polynomials are used for strain hardening in loading and unloading. Clearly, elastic perfectly plastic and linear hardening materials are the special cases of this general model. This quadratic material model is convenient for the...

    Abstract
This paper deals with growth control of cancer cells population using type-1 and interval type-2 fuzzy logic. A type-1 fuzzy controller is designed in order to reduce the population of cancer cells, adjust the drug dosage in a manner that allows normal cells re-grow in treatment period and maintain the maximum drug delivery rate and plasma concentration of drug in an appropriate range. Two different approaches are studied. One deals with reducing the number of cancer cells without any concern about the rate of decreasing, and the other takes the rate of malignant cells damage into consideration. Due to the fact that uncertainty is an inherent part of real systems and affects controller...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Esmaeili, Sajjad (Author) ; Massihi, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Ayatollahi, Shahabodin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The assessment of fluid transport in porous media is the main subject in oil reservoirs to understand the oil recovery efficiency. The efficiency of Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes depends on the surface properties and wetting behavior of oil reservoir rocks which are also affected by the electrokinetic behavior of solid part of the porous rock. Streaming potential measurement is one of the techniques to determine the electrokinetic properties. The streaming potential measurements using electrodes have recently been introduced in oil field applications and there are still significant uncertainties during the measurements and interpretation of streaming potential results. The Primarily...

Low Salinity Water Assisted by Surfactants for Enhanced Oil Recovery: Mechanistic Study and Spontaneous Imbibition Tests

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Heidari, Mehdi (Author) ; Ayatollahi, Shahabodin (Supervisor) ; Mahani, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques have become of the main priorities of the oil industry during the high oil price era. It is interesting to note that the common method to increase production from reservoirs is the water injection method, which recovers a very low amount of oil from the oil-wet matrices due to the lack of water imbibition. Previous studies have shown that changing the wettability of rock would critically increase the oil recovery efficiency. This could be achieved by the low-salinity water injection method. In recent years, extensive studies have been conducted on this technique to evaluate its effectiveness for various types of oil reservoirs. Simultaneous injection...
