    Abstract
A fuzzy controller has been suggested for attitude control of magnetic actuated satellites in order to calculate the desired mechanical torque based on the attitude error including error in the angles and their rates. The problem of selecting proper magnetic dipole based on the known desired mechanical torque has been investigated, two different methods for the purpose has been suggested and the performance of the attained fuzzy magnetic attitude controllers has been shown under two different simulated conditions. © 2009 IEEE

An ellipsoidal model for studying response of head impacts

    , Article Acta of Bioengineering and Biomechanics ; Volume 12, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 47-53 ; 1509409X (ISSN) Heydari, M ; Jani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
The objective of this study was to propose a new analytical model for studying response of head impacts. Head is modeled by fluidfilled ellipsoidal shell of inconstant thickness impacted by a solid elastic sphere. Modeling the head as an ellipsoid is more realistic than modeling it as a sphere, the previous model existing in the literature [3]-[8]. In this model, the effect of Hertzian contact stiffness and local shell stiffness are combined to derive explicit equations for impact duration, the peak force transmitted to head, and the head injury criterion. One of the advantages of the model presented is sensitivity to the site of impact. A comparison between the present analytical results...

    , Article 2008 Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation, MED'08, Ajaccio-Corsica, 25 June 2008 through 27 June 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 23-28 ; 9781424425051 (ISBN) Heydari, A ; Pourtakdoust, S. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
The problem of time optimal magnetic attitude control is treated and an open loop solution is first obtained using a variational approach. In order to close the control loop, a neural network with time varying weights is proposed as a feedback optimal controller applicable to the time varying nonlinear system. The good robustness and low real-time computational burden of the proposed neuro-controller makes the controller more useful compared to the other control methods. © 2008 IEEE

    Abstract
This paper studies the delay consensus margin in battery energy storage systems, with the goal of coordinating the synchronization of both State-Of-Charge (SoC) and power levels of batteries. The analysis takes into account uncertainties in delays that vary within a specified range, and it considers the challenge of achieving synchronization with restricted information exchange. This paper seeks to address the question: In what extensive range of delays can a control protocol successfully achieve synchronization for both SoC and power levels of batteries?. Having investigated the battery storage system which communicates through a directed network topology and determine a clear margin for...

    Abstract
In recent years, development of high-performance supercapacitor electrode materials has stimulated a great deal of scientific research. The electrochemical performance of a supercapacitor strongly depends on its material structures. Herein, we report a simple strategy for high-performance supercapacitors by building pseudocapacitive CuS nanospheres with nanoporous structures, nanosized walls (<10 nm) and relatively large specific surface area of 65 m2/g. This electrode demonstrates excellent electrochemical performance including a maximum specific capacitance of 814 F/g at 1 A/g, significant rate capability of 42% capacitance retention at an ultrafast rate of 50 A/g, and outstanding...

    Abstract
In this study, Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets were synthesized and loaded into UV-curable acrylate polyvinyl alcohol (APVA) to fabricate a novel APVA-MXene mixed matrix membrane (MMM) for ethanol dehydration by pervaporation (PV) process. UV-curable APVA was synthesized by substituting the hydroxyl groups of PVA with the methacryloyl groups of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). A rapid and energy-efficient method for fabricating the active layer was achieved by UV-crosslinking of APVA over a 2-min period. The morphology, crystal structure, chemical composition, and thermo-mechanical properties of the membranes were investigated by FESEM, XRD, FTIR, TGA, and static mechanical stretching. Incorporating...

Adversarial orthogonal regression: Two non-linear regressions for causal inference

    Abstract
We propose two nonlinear regression methods, namely, Adversarial Orthogonal Regression (AdOR) for additive noise models and Adversarial Orthogonal Structural Equation Model (AdOSE) for the general case of structural equation models. Both methods try to make the residual of regression independent from regressors, while putting no assumption on noise distribution. In both methods, two adversarial networks are trained simultaneously where a regression network outputs predictions and a loss network that estimates mutual information (in AdOR) and KL-divergence (in AdOSE). These methods can be formulated as a minimax two-player game; at equilibrium, AdOR finds a deterministic map between inputs...

    Abstract
In this work, two important opioid antagonists, naltrexone and oxycodone, were prepared from thebaine and were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Moreover, computational NMR and IR parameters were obtained using density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-311++G* * level of theory. Complete NMR and vibrational assignment were carried out using the observed and calculated spectra. The IR frequencies and NMR chemical shifts, determined experimentally, were compared with those obtained theoretically from DFT calculations, showed good agreements. The RMS errors observed between experimental and calculated data for the IR absorptions are 85 and 105 cm-1, for the 1H NMR peaks are...

    Abstract
Let (Formula presented.) be a signed graph, where G is the underlying simple graph and (Formula presented.) is the sign function on the edges of G. The adjacency matrix of a signed graph has (Formula presented.) or (Formula presented.) for adjacent vertices, depending on the sign of the connecting edges. In this paper, the eigenvalues of signed complete graphs are investigated. We prove that (Formula presented.) and 1 are the eigenvalues of the signed complete graph with the multiplicity at least t if there are (Formula presented.) vertices whose all incident edges are positive or negative, respectively. We study the spectrum of a signed complete graph whose negative edges induce an...

    Abstract
Let Γ = (G, σ) be a signed graph, where G is the underlying simple graph and σ E(G) → {-, +} is the sign function on the edges of G. The adjacency matrix of a signed graph has-1 or +1 for adjacent vertices, depending on the sign of the edges. It was conjectured that if is a signed complete graph of order n with k negative edges, k-lt-n-1 and has maximum index, then negative edges form K1 ,k. In this paper, we prove this conjecture if we confine ourselves to all signed complete graphs of order n whose negative edges form a tree of order k + 1. A [1, 2]-subgraph of G is a graph whose components are paths and cycles. Let Γ be a signed complete graph whose negative edges form a [1, 2]-subgraph....

    Abstract
In this study, a thermal method was used to synthesize spinel NiCo2O4 and carbon nanotubes (CNTs)@NiCo2O4 with an average size 50 nm and 20 nm, respectively. Addition of CNTs into NiCo2O4 noticeably increases the active surface area compared to pure spinel NiCo2O4. SEM analyses showed that the morphologies are spherical in both pure and composite samples. Uniform CNTs@NiCo2O4 nanoparticles exhibit high specific capacitance of 210 F g−1 at 2 A g−1 and a good retention capacity of 92.70% after 2500 cycles, which shows a considerable improvement compared to NiCo2O4. Additionally, an exceptional rate capability of about 73.2% was obtained at 50 A g−1. Such remarkable electrochemical performance...

Novel positively charged PVDF/SPES membranes surface grafted by hyperbranched polyethyleneimine (HBPEI): Fabrication, characterization, antifouling properties, and performance on the removal of cationic E-coat paint

    Abstract
Surface modification of ultrafiltration membranes has shown a significant potential to reduce fouling and increase flux and lifetime, which are the most important factors in membrane filtration. In this study, the surface-modified membranes were prepared by grafting hyperbranched polyethyleneimine (HBPEI) onto polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-sulfonated polyethersulphone (SPES) blending membranes. Electrostatic interactions between HBPEI and SPES result in a well-attached positive-charged HBPEI grafting layer on the PVDF membrane surface. Surface-modified membranes were examined for the removal of cationic E-coat paint and their performance was measured in terms of total permeation flux, paint...

A clustering fuzzification algorithm based on ALM

    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a fuzzification method for clusters produced from a clustering process, based on Active Learning Method (ALM). ALM is a soft computing methodology which is based on a hypothesis claiming that human brain interprets information in pattern-like images. The proposed fuzzification method is applicable to all non-fuzzy clustering algorithms as a post process. The most outstanding advantage of this method is the ability to determine the membership degrees of each data to all clusters based on the density and shape of the clusters. It is worth mentioning that for existing fuzzy clustering algorithms such as FCM the membership degree is usually determined as a function of...

    Abstract
The design of a power-efficient second-order Δ/∑ modulator for voice-band is presented. At system level, a new single-loop, single-stage modulator is proposed. The modulator employs only one class-AB op-amp to realize a second-order noise shaping for voice-band applications. The modulator is designed in a 0.25μm standard CMOS process, and exhibits 86 dB dynamic range (DR) for a 4 kHz voice-bandwidth. The proposed modulator consumes 125μW from a 2.5 V supply. © Springer Science + Business Media, LLC 2006

    Abstract
In spinal cord injuries, axonal regeneration decreases with the activation of astrocytes followed by glial scar formation. Targeting reactive astrocytes has been recently performed by unsafe viral vectors to inhibit gliosis. In the current study, biocompatible polymeric nanoparticles were selected as an alternative for viruses to target reactive astrocytes for further drug/gene delivery applications. Lipopolysaccharide-bonded chitosan-quantum dots/poly acrylic acid nanoparticles were prepared by ionic gelation method to target reactive astrocytes both in vitro and in spinal cord-injured rats. Owing to their biocompatibility and pH-responsive behavior, chitosan and poly acrylic acid were the...

    Abstract
In this study, we present results of a mathematical model in which the governing equations of electroforming process were solved using a robust finite element solver (COMSOL Multiphysics). The effects of different parameters including applied current density, solution electrical conductivity, electrode spacing, and anode height on the copper electroforming process have been investigated. An electroforming experiment using copper electroforming cell was conducted to verify the developed model. The obtained results show that by increasing the applied current density, the electroforming process takes place faster, thereby resulting in a higher thickness of the electroformed layer. In addition,...
