Abstract
Liu and Xu (1998) and Ellingham, Nam and Voss (2002) independently showed that every k-edge-connected simple graph G has a spanning tree T such that for each vertex v, dT(v) ≤ ⌈ d(v)/k ⌉ + 2. In this paper we show that every k-edge-connected graph G has a spanning tree T such that for each vertex v, dT(v)≤ ⌈ d(v)-2/k ⌉ + 2; also if G has k edge-disjoint spanning trees, then T can be found such that for each vertex v, dT(v) ≤ ⌈ d(v)-1/k ⌉ + 1. This result implies that every (r-1)-edge-connected r-regular graph (with r ≥ 4) has a spanning Eulerian subgraph whose degrees lie in the set {2,4,6}; also reduces the edge-connectivity needed for some theorems due to Barát and Gerbner (2014) and...

Abstract
Let G be a graph and let f be a positive integer-valued function on V(G). In this paper, we show that if for all S⊆V(G), ω(G∖S)<∑v∈S(f(v)−2)+2+ω(G[S]), then G has a spanning tree T containing an arbitrary given matching such that for each vertex v, dT(v)≤f(v), where ω(G∖S) denotes the number of components of G∖S and ω(G[S]) denotes the number of components of the induced subgraph G[S] with the vertex set S. This is an improvement of several results. Next, we prove that if for all S⊆V(G), ω(G∖S)≤∑v∈S(f(v)−1)+1, then G admits a spanning closed walk passing through the edges of an arbitrary given matching meeting each vertex v at most f(v) times. This result solves a long-standing conjecture...

Abstract
In this paper, we show that every (3k−3)-edge-connected graph G, under a certain degree condition, can be edge-decomposed into k factors G1,…,Gk such that for each vertex v∈V(Gi), |dGi(v)−dG(v)/k|<1, where 1≤i≤k. As an application, we deduce that every 6-edge-connected graph G can be edge-decomposed into three factors G1, G2, and G3 such that for each vertex v∈V(Gi) with 1≤i≤3, |dGi(v)−dG(v)/3|<1, unless G has exactly one vertex z with dG(z)⁄≡30. Next, we show that every odd-(3k−2)-edge-connected graph G can be edge-decomposed into k factors G1,…,Gk such that for each vertex v∈V(Gi), dGi(v) and dG(v) have the same parity and |dGi(v)−dG(v)/k|<2, where k is an odd positive integer and 1≤i≤k....

Abstract
In 2006 Barát and Thomassen conjectured that every planar 4-edge-connected 4-regular simple graph of size divisible by three admits a claw-decomposition. Later, Lai (2007) disproved this conjecture by a family of planar graphs with edge-connectivity 4 which the smallest one contains 24 vertices. In this note, we first give a smaller counterexample having only 18 vertices and next construct a family of planar 4-connected essentially 6-edge-connected 4-regular simple graphs of size divisible by three with no claw-decompositions. This result provides the sharpness for two known results which say that every 5-edge-connected graph of size divisible by three admits a claw-decomposition if it is...

Abstract
Let G be a graph, let k be a positive integer, and let p:V(G)→{−1,…,k−2} be a mapping with |E(G)|≡k∑v∈V(G)p(v). In this paper, we show that if G is essentially (3k−3)-edge-connected and for each vertex v, dG(v)≥2k−1+p(v), then G has an orientation such that for each vertex v, dG+(v)≡kp(v), and [Formula presented] In addition, we show that if G can be decomposed into 2k−2 edge-disjoint spanning trees and a factor F having an orientation such that for each vertex v, dF+(v)≥l0(v), then G has an orientation such that for each vertex v, dG+(v)≡kp(v), and s(v)≤dG+(v)≤dG(v)−s0(v), where s, s0, and l0 are three integer-valued functions on V(G) satisfying s(v)+s0(v)+k−1≤dG(v) and...
Connected Factor and 3-Vertex Factors on Graphs
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Saieed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Let G be a graph. A P3-factor of graph G is a subgraph of G such that each component is isomorphic to P3. In 1985 Akiyama and Kano conjectured that every 3-connected 3-regular graph of order divisible by 3 has a P3-factor. In this thesis we conjecture that every 3-connected 4-regular graph of order divisible by 3 has a P3-factor and also show that this conjecture concludes the previous one. Moreover, we investigate connected factors and some 3-vertex induced factors in graphs and show that every r-regular graph of order n (3 j n) has a P3-induced factor, if r _> 8n/ 9-1

Abstract
Underwater gliders (UGs) are used for seabed data collection due to their low power consumption, which is an advantage for extending endurance in deep seas. The geometrical characteristics directly affect the stability and performance of these types of robots in terms of their endurance. This study aimed to determine the effect of the body length-to-diameter ratio on maneuverability during zigzag and helical maneuvers. For this, the theoretically derived formulas based on non-linear hydrodynamic coefficients for the body and wing have been described in six degrees of freedom (six-DOF). The model and theoretical formulas have been validated by experimental tests on the Sharif University of...

Abstract
Nowadays, underwater gliders (UGs) are known as efficiency vehicles to observe and quantify water properties concerning marine environments, seabed characteristics, and water depths. The development of appropriate dynamic and state space models is necessary for designing an effective control system. This study aims to develop state space models for UGs equipped with embedded actuators based on a non-linear dynamic model that takes into account the hydrodynamic characteristics of the body and wings. The method involves utilizing sensitivity analysis and assumptions to construct two distinct state space models, along with the linearization of the non-linear model in horizontal and vertical...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Efficient path-following control is essential for the exploitation of underwater resources, providing the ability to track predefined positions. Control, guidance, and navigation (GNC) serve as a common subject for marine vehicles. In this study, the aim is the development of an adaptive path-following control system for an underwater glider (UG), considering uncertainty parameters through GNC-based techniques. Uncertainty parameters within navigation, guidance, and control simulations can lead to instability in the control system. Uncertainty parameters in this method include some factors in the GNC loop such as hydrodynamic coefficients, sensor errors, biases, noise, and actuator errors....

Abstract
Online intelligent knowledge extraction from real-world nonstationary data streams presents a multiobjective optimization challenge. Here, we characterize the learning process on a trajectory of global optimality to simultaneously satisfy six high-profile objectives: 1) optimum generalization for the best bias-variance tradeoff; 2) compactness of knowledgebase; 3) memory retention and stability-plasticity balance; 4) universality and full autonomy; 5) robustness against outliers, noise, and model uncertainty; and 6) active concept drift detection and adaptation. We propose a flexible Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy system, named UFAREX, that self-constructs and self-guards from scratch in a...

Abstract
Harnessing natural water currents for renewable energy generation holds significant promise. Flapping foil hydrokinetic turbines (FHTs), inspired by aquatic organisms' propulsion mechanisms, leverage undulating motion to extract energy from flowing water. This study investigates the impact of hydrofoil shape and mechanical parameters on oscillating tandem hydrofoil systems' performance for energy harvesting, focusing on Persian Gulf tidal currents. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in a 2D domain is employed for analysis. Parameters include hydrofoil profiles (IFS, NACA 0015, HSVA, and flat plate), damping coefficient, and initial pitch angle optimized for low-level currents around 1 m/s,...
Ant colony algorithm for the shortest loop design problem [electronic resource]
, Article Computers and Industrial Engineering, Elsevier ; Volume 50, Issue 4, August 2006, Pages 358–366 ; Kazemi, Morteza ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, a new algorithm for solving the shortest loop design problem is presented. The shortest loop design problem is to find the shortest loop for an automated guided vehicle covering at least one edge of each department of a block layout. In this paper, first it is shown that this problem can be represented as a graph model. The properties of the presented model enable us to design a meta-heuristic based on ant colony system algorithm for solving the shortest loop design problem. Computational results show the efficiency of our algorithm in compare to the other techniques
Modeling Reaction and Distribution of Water in Nanopores of the Cathode Catalyst Layer of PEM Fuel Cell
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; baghalha, morteza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEM, the produced water would be divided into two phases of vapor and liquid. distribution of both liquid and vapor phases in different cell layers affects the performance, the efficiency and the life of a fuel cell significantly. Moreover, Nano pores of the cathode catalyst layer are involved with some phenomena such as electrochemical reaction kinetics, heat and mass transfer and interface phase change. One of the most important problems in the performance of fuel cells is distribution of liquid water in the porous areas. Water flooding in fuel cells causes to delay in oxygen transport to active sites in the catalyst layer because the pores of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Eskandari, Morteza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The propagation behavior of Love wave in functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic half-spaces with a quadratic variation is addressed. The magneto-electromechanical coupling factor, the dispersion relations, electric potential, magnetic potential and displacement are obtained analytically for both magneto-electrically open and short conditions. The effect of gradient coefficient on phase velocity, group velocity and magneto-electromechanical coupling factor are plotted and discussed. Research on the wave propagation in magneto-electro-elastic materials is still very limited. This work provides us with a theoretical foundation to design and practically apply SAW devices with high...

Abstract
In this study, the interaction between thin plate completely bonded to the transversely isotropic halfspace and a concentrated force applied horizontally (Mindlin-type force) are considered. This problem has been solved analytically. This problem is used as sample for thin solid films and surface coating technology, where the surface of solid is covered by thethin plate for increasing its stiffness. Moreover, this problem is a good sample when homogenous solid is subjected to contact loading and can be seen that mechanical properties of material which is near the solid surface varies; consequently, a two-phase solid is created.Because of the influence of noted inhomogeneity, solid is...

Analysis of Slabs Stiffened by Cables and Pedestals
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Eskandari, Morteza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, a new concrete slab stiffened by concrete pedestals and steel cables is introduced. The slab system is studied by employing both analytical and numerical methods. The steel cables are connected to the edges of slab and the concrete pedestals mounted at the bottom face of slab act as the middle supports of cables. The tension force in the cable and its inclination results in upward forces acting at the bottom face of slab. With the aims of classical theory of thin plates and the superposition technique, the problem of a simply supported rectangular slab stiffened by cables is studied analytically. The obtained results are verified by a numerical modelling implemented in SAP2000...
Parametric Study of Telescopic Metallic Yielding Dampers
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Eskandari, Morteza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The parametric study of a new introduced metallic yielding damper called telescopic damper is addressed. The telescopic damper comprises of three concentric steel pipes connected together by lead shear keys. The inner and outer steel pipes are subjected to axial loading which results in the shear yielding of the embedded lead cylinders. The inner steel pipe has a lock which limits its movement to some certain extent and beyond this limit the outer tube activates. Employing ABAQUS software, the behavior of damper under cyclic loading is studied numerically. The finite element model is verified by available results in the literature. The effects of inner and outer steel pipes thickness,...
