, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Zokaei Aashtiani, Hedayat (Supervisor)
Abstract
Discrete network design problem is selecting a set of feasible projects among a set of candidate projects, considering a budget constraint in which user's cost is being minimized. Network design problem is one of the complicated problems in transportation science, since it is a bi-level problem in which the lower level is a traffic assignment problem and the upper level is finding the best set of arcs. Meta-heuristic algorithms can be used to solve this problem. Although, there is no guarantee to find the optimal solution by Meta-heuristic algorithms, but they find good solutions in short times. The purpose of this study is comparing the efficiency of three Meta-heuristic algorithms for...

Abstract
Trigonometric calculations play a significant role in scientific and multimedia applications. Such applications usually use vectors of data, thus it is essential to use SIMD-based computing for them. State of the art processors such as Pentium family processors have SIMD capabilities, MMX, SSE and SSE2 to name a few. But these extensions usually come short of performing trigonometric functions calculation. This paper presents a CORDIC-based vector processor extension to accelerate trigonometric calculations. The suggested architecture works with a vector of data, as well as scalar data. This architecture has been Synthesized both for FPGA and ASIC and the results have shown a significant...

Abstract
Wireless sensor networks consist of small nodes with sensing, computation, and wireless communicationr capabilities. Many routing protocols have been specifically designed for WSNs where energy awareness is an essential design issue. Routing protocols in WSNs might differ depending on the application and network architecture. In this article, a fault-tolerant and energy efficient routing protocol for wireless sensor networks is proposed This protocol is called Directed Flooding, and is a descendant of the Flooding routing protocol, which consumes less energy, while maintaining high levels of fault-tolerance. This is done by Tending data in a specific aperture instead of broadcasting, which...

Abstract
In this paper, a parallel algorithm for data clustering is presented on a multi-computer with star topology. This algorithm is fast and requires a small amount of memory per processing element, which makes it even suitable for SIMD implementation. The proposed parallel algorithm completes in O(K+S 2-T 2) steps for a clustering problem of N data patterns with M features per pattern and K clusters, where N.M = S!, K.M = T!, and M=R!, on a s-star interconnection network. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005
Influence of pile head restraint on the performance of floating elevated energy pile groups in soft clay

Abstract
Thermal elongation of energy piles (EPs) depends on the end restraints to displacement. The EP head is restrained by a working load and non-energy piles (NEPs) within an energy pile group, depending on the cap rigidity. The existence of both EPs and NEPs in non-symmetrical thermally loaded energy pile groups imposes different restraints on EP heads, resulting in different pile elongations. This would induce load redistribution between the piles, thereby influencing the serviceability of energy pile groups in soft soil. In this paper, a 3-D numerical parametric study was conducted after back-analysing a centrifuge test on a floating elevated energy pile group subjected to cyclic...
Thermal Cyclic Effects on the Long-Term Behaviour of Elevated Floating Energy Pile Groups in Saturated Lightly Overconsolidated Clay by Centrifuge Modelling
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Jafarzadeh, Fardin (Supervisor)
Abstract
There is an increasing interest and use of energy foundations worldwide. Heat transfer from/to energy piles may cause plastic contraction of soft clay with a low overconsolidation ratio (OCR) during heating and cooling. This can influence pile-soil interaction due to thermally induced excess pore water pressure and changes of lateral stress acting on the pile. These thermally induced phenomena cause additional plastic settlement of the soil and pile. The irreversible settlement may cause serviceability or even ultimate limit state problems for floating energy piles whose capacity is mainly derived from shaft resistance. Due to intended operational needs or by accident, cyclic non-symmetrical...
Reliability Analysis of Concrete Gravity Dam with Foundation's Parameters Uncertainty Based on Nonlinear Finite Element Model
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghaemian, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Toufigh, Vahab (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study reliability and sensitivity analysis of the parameters of a concrete gravity dam have been proposed regarding to their probabilistic behavior. At first, the uncertainty of concrete fracture energy (GF), Foundation’s elasticity modulus (E_f), and the Peak ground acceleration (PGA) are considered according to their probability density function (pdf). The uncertainty sources are inserted in the model using the Latin Hyper Cube Sampling method (LHS) in order to do reliability analysis of the model. Monte Carlo method is one of the most popular methods for reliability analysis of numerical models. Taking this method in uncertainty analysis would evaluate the effects of the inputs on...
Rcci Curvature for Metric-Measure Space via Optimal Transport
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahraini, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Ranjbar Motlagh, Alireza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
One of the important questions in mathematics is generalized. In case of metric spaces, one of the questions is: Can we extend notions of Riemannian geometry to arbitrary metric spaces smoothly? Ricci curvature is one of the most important concepts in differential geometry. Ricci curvature is defined for the Riemannian manifold and has many applications in mathematics and physics like Einstein’s equation in relativity theory. There is a good notion for a metric space having “sectional curvature bounded below by K” or “sectional curvature bounded above by K”, due to Alexandrov. Can we define the concept of Ricci curvature in metric space? A motivation for this question comes from Gromov’s...

Abstract
Seismic design codes reduce loads by using response modification factor. Because of the reserved strength in structural elements and capacity of structure to dissipate energy, structures can be designed for lower seismic loads. This factor has modified over time. In this thesis, the effect of the reduction in behavior factor on the response of two kinds of reinforced concrete systems were evaluated. Moment resisting frames and dual systems with different heights and regularity in plan, heve been design according to the behavior factor which is recommended in the 3rd edition of the Iranian codes of practice for seismic resistance design of buildings (Standard No. 2800). Drift and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahreini, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Poincare conjecture is one of the rst eorts for classifying 3-manifolds that was stated in the begining of 20th century. Eorts for proving this conjecture continued for about 100 years and nally Perelman has solved it in 2003. He has used Ricci ow which has been invented by Richard Hamilton in the early 80's. In this thesis rst we will introduce Ricci ow and will state the results before Perelman such as short time and long time existence of solution. Then we will mention some applications of Ricci ow and will state an explanation of the proof of uniformization and Calabi conjecture by Ricci ow. After that we start the main part of the thesis. In this part we will montion one of the...

Identification and Abnormal Condition Detection of a Cement Rotary Kiln
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fatehi, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the most important parts of a cement factory is the cement rotary kiln which plays a key role in quality and quantity of produced cement. In this part, the physical exertion and bilateral movement of air and materials, together with chemical reactions take place. Thus, this system has immensely complex and nonlinear dynamic equations. These equations have not worked out yet. Only in exceptional case; however, a large number of the involved parameters were crossed out and an approximation model was presented instead. This issue caused many problems for designing a cement rotary kiln controller. In this thesis, we employed a nonlinear system identification method for identification,...
Entanglement and Decoherence in Optomechanical Systems Coupled through Photothermal Effects
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Optomechanical systems have attracted considerable attention in the last decade. Such a raising prominence is mainly due to its capability in providing new insight into the quantum behavior of macroscopic objects and exploring the interface between quantum and classical mechanics. Alongside this fundamental quest, cavity optomechanics has many other benefits, ranging from very precise measurements on forces and positions to quantum information processing. In this thesis, we investigate quantum properties of such systems. Particularly, we study cooling of the mechanical resonator toward its ground state and the entanglement between this mechanical resonator and the cavity field. Cooling the...
Improvement in Reinforced Concrete Beam-Column Connections Behaviour using FRP Sheets
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Performance of reinforced concrete frames is highly dependent on detailing of the joint connections between its members, such as beams and columns. To have a good structural behavior, joints must show ductile behavior and designed based on the philosophy of strong column-weak beam. In the case of sever lacking ductility, strength or even rigidity of the connections, or having a weak column-strong beam, in the existing structures, there is a need for seismic upgrading of the connection. There are several ways for seismic upgrading of this type of connections. In the last decade Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) widely has been used to strengthening the reinforced concrete (RC) members. Most of...
Hodge Theory on Metric Spaces
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahraini, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Hodge theory is a beautiful synthesis of geometry, topology, and anal- ysis, which has been developed in the setting of Riemannian manifolds. On the other hand, spaces of images, which are important in the math- ematical foundations of vision and pattern recognition, do not fit this framework. This motivates us to develop a version of Hodge theory on metric spaces with a probability measure. We believe that this constitutes a step towards understanding the geometry of vision. We extend the theory of the Laplacian on domains of Euclidean space or on a manifold and next to metric space. Finally we give a beautiful application in web researcher engin.

At first they are producing some regular parts of elevator and then during these years they are trying to improve their work and expand their business till they have the 15% market share in elevator market in Tehran. In this thesis I am trying to use the SWOT and PETS methods to show the exact situation of BMP comparing to the whole market considering the competitors.During this reduction in the market I suggest to BMP to change some policies and use some of its strength to attract some new customers, changing their brand name and find a relation to contribute in some tenders and...
Evaluating and Improving the Reliability of Reversible Adiabatic Logic Styles
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ejlali, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Adiabatic logic families are a group of logic circuits which operate based on adiabatic principles to tremendously reduce power consumption. These families have basic difference with common logic families in transistor level structure and there signals are not quadrangular but trapezoidal. Also, in these systems the source lines and clock pulse are the same. Research on Adiabatic families needs theoretical information in reversible computing. So we will start this project with explaining fundamental information in this field. After that some of these logic families are introduced and three important and widely used of them (SCRL-RERL-2LAL) are chosen to simulate. In each of these families...
