Trees with a large Laplacian eigenvalue multiplicity

    , Article Linear Algebra and Its Applications ; Volume 586 , 2020 , Pages 262-273 Akbari, S ; van Dam, E. R ; Fakharan, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we study the multiplicity of the Laplacian eigenvalues of trees. It is known that for trees, integer Laplacian eigenvalues larger than 1 are simple and also the multiplicity of Laplacian eigenvalue 1 has been well studied before. Here we consider the multiplicities of the other (non-integral) Laplacian eigenvalues. We give an upper bound and determine the trees of order n that have a multiplicity that is close to the upper bound [Formula presented], and emphasize the particular role of the algebraic connectivity. © 2019 Elsevier Inc

    Abstract
Let G be a graph and I be an interval. In this paper, we present bounds for the number mGI of Laplacian eigenvalues in I in terms of structural parameters of G. In particular, we show that mG(n−α(G),n]≤n−α(G) and mG(n−d(G)+3,n]≤n−d(G)−1, where α(G) and d(G) denote the independence number and the diameter of G, respectively. Also, we characterize bipartite graphs that satisfy mG[0,1)=α(G). Further, in the case of triangle-free or quadrangle-free, we prove that mG(n−1,n]≤1. © 2021 Elsevier Inc

A bound for the p-domination number of a graph in terms of its eigenvalue multiplicities

    , Article Linear Algebra and Its Applications ; Volume 658 , 2023 , Pages 319-330 ; 00243795 (ISSN) Abiad, A ; Akbari, S ; Fakharan, M. H ; Mehdizadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Let G be a connected graph of order n with domination number γ(G). Wang, Yan, Fang, Geng and Tian [Linear Algebra Appl. 607 (2020), 307-318] showed that for any Laplacian eigenvalue λ of G with multiplicity mG(λ), it holds that γ(G)≤n−mG(λ). Using techniques from the theory of star sets, in this work we prove that the same bound holds when λ is an arbitrary adjacency eigenvalue of a non-regular graph, and we characterize the cases of equality. Moreover, we show a result that gives a relationship between start sets and the p-domination number, and we apply it to extend the aforementioned spectral bound to the p-domination number using the adjacency and Laplacian eigenvalue multiplicities. ©...

    Abstract
In this paper, we extend some results of [F. Shaveisi, lower bounds on the vertex cover number and energy of graphs, MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem, 87(3) (2022) 683-692] which state some relations between the vertex cover and other parameters, such as the order and maximum or minimum degree of graphs. Also, we prove that for a graph G, E(G) ≥ 2β(G) - 2Ce(G) and so E(G) ≥ 2β(G) - 2C(G), where E(G), β(G), Ce(G) and C(G) denote the energy, vertex cover, number of even cycles and number of cycles in G, respectively. For these both inequalities we investigate their equality. Finally, we give some relations between E(G), γ(G) and γt(G), where γ(G) and γt(G) are domination number and total...

    Abstract
A (1,2)-dominating set in a graph G with minimum degree at least 2 is a set S of vertices of G such that every vertex in V(G)∖S has at least one neighbor in S and every vertex in S has at least two neighbors in S. The (1,2)-domination number, γ1,2(G), of G is the minimum cardinality of a (1,2)-dominating set of G. In this paper we prove that if G is a cubic graph of order n, then [Formula presented], and this bound is tight. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

Division Algebra with Radicable Multiplicative Groups

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fakharan, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Mahdavi Hazavehi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Given a divisible finite field extension KjF, the structure of Br(F), the Brauer group of F, is investigated. It is shown that, if F is indivisible, then Br(F) = Z2, which generalizes the Frobenius Theorem. As a consequence, when F is indivisible, the class of all finite dimensional non-commutative F-central division algebras D having radicable multiplicative groups D is determined. In fact, it is proved that the following statements are equivalent: (1) D is radicable, (2) D contains a divisible subfield KjF, and (3) D is the ordinary quaternion division algebra and F(p 1) is divisible

    Abstract
In a MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radar system, proper design of transmit signal and receive filter is an advantageous tool to improve the detection performance. Thus, in this paper, we consider the problem of transmit code and receive filter design, in order to maximize the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) at the receiver while enforcing a similarity constraint between the transmit space-time code (STC) and a reference STC which has a desirable ambiguity function. We will show that by solving such constrained optimization problem through successive iterations, our proposed method leads to satisfactory results

    Abstract
Weighting elements to achieve radiation patterns with desired characteristics is a classical work in phased array antennas. These characteristics can be low sidelobe level, narrow beamwidth, high directivity, pattern nulling in special angle and etc. For each of these characteristics, different methods have been introduced. Most of methods have been presented for uniform arrays, however there are lots of methods to obtain a desired pattern for antennas with non-uniform element distances. The problem with these methods is complexity or not very good results. In this paper, fast and easy methods based on Least Square Error that leads to good results are presented. In addition, weighting of...

    Abstract
This paper resolve the salinity-dependent interactions of polar components of crude oil at calcite-brine interface in atomic resolution. Molecular dynamics simulations carried out on the present study showed that ordered water monolayers develop immediate to a calcite substrate in contact with a saline solution. Carboxylic compounds, herein represented by benzoic acid (BA), penetrate into those hydration layers and directly linking to the calcite surface. Through a mechanism termed screening effect, development of hydrogen bonding between –COOH functional groups of BA and carbonate groups is inhibited by formation of a positively-charged Na+ layer over CaCO3 surface. Contrary to the common...

    Abstract
An important tool for assessing a radar's performance is the ambiguity function. On the other hand, many different schemes have been designed for the transmit waveforms of a MIMO radar. For each one, a criterion has been chosen to improve the performace, e.g. achieving better missed detection. In this paper, considering the ambiguity function as the benchmark, we propose a waveform design scheme, which optimizes the ambiguity function of the MIMO radar system

    Abstract
Flow hydrodynamics of laminar falling film of aqueous Li Br solution (Li Br - H2O) on a horizontal elliptical tube has been investigated in this research. The film velocity distribution and film thickness, namely, the flow characteristics are determined by solving analytically simultaneous simplified Navier - Stokes equations and continuity equation in polar and Cartesian coordinates. The analysis is based on steady state laminar flow of falling liquid film of Li Br - H2O on a horizontal elliptical tube in polar model and Cartesian model (CM), for cases in which traction on the film surface is considered negligible. Models are compared with each other in three cases of aspect ratios (Ar),...

    Abstract
This work concerns the experimental investigation of surfactant alternating CO 2 injection in carbonate rocks. The core samples provided from a low-temperature fractured light oil reservoir, located in southwest Iran. The experiments were designed to observe the effect of CO 2-foam injection on gas mobility and oil recovery at different surfactant concentrations. The core samples were initially saturated with synthetic/field brine, 5,000 ppm, and then flooded with live oil to reach connate water saturation at reservoir condition, 115F and 1,700 psia. The commercial surfactant used was sodium lauryl sulfate as an anionic surfactant. The results of this work, along with field-scale simulation...

    Abstract
Knowledge of Air-water two phase flows is significant to different engineering systems such as chemical reactors and power plant and petrochemical and petroleum industry. One of the most industrial cases of two phase flow is two phase flow in vertical large pipes. In this paper in order to find two phase flow behavior along vertical large diameter pipes we simulate air inlets with different number of holes and different hole diameters in the same flow rate of air. In addition, flow characteristics such as cross-sectional void fraction and velocity and pressure were considered. To achieve this aim, main equations of flow have been developed for investigation of flow behavior in air-water two...

    Abstract
The present work investigates the thermal performance of a five turn Open Loop Pulsating Heat Pipe (OLPHP). The effects of working fluid namely water and ferrofluid, heat input, ferrofluid concentration, charging ratio, and orientation will be considered. Experimental results show that using ferrofluids can enhance the thermal performance in comparison with the case of distilled water. In addition, applying a magnetic field on the OLPHP charged with ferrofluid reduces its thermal resistance. Variation of the ferrofluid concentration results in different thermal performance of the OLPHP. Best charging ratio for the distilled water and ferrofluid without magnetic field is 60 % in most of the...
