    Development of simple and efficient Lab-on-a-Disc platforms for automated chemical cell lysis

    Cell lysis is the most important first step for molecular biology and diagnostic testing. Recently, microfluidic systems have attracted considerable attention due to advantages associated with automation, integration and miniaturization, especially in resource-limited settings. In this work, novel centrifugal microfluidic platforms with new configurations for chemical cell lysis are presented. The developed systems employ passive form of pneumatic and inertial forces for effective mixing of lysis reagents and cell samples as well as precise fluidic control.     This study used the emulsion liquid membrane method to investigate the extraction and separation of thorium from nitrate solution. According to the results obtained from the studies, Cyanex 272 was a suitable option for selectively extracting thorium. For simultaneous extraction and stripping of thorium from dilute aqueous solutions, an emulsion liquid membrane system consisting of Cyanex 272 as an extractant, Span 80 as a surfactant and sulfuric acid solution as a receiving phase (internal phase) was used.     This study focuses on the mode classification of phones speaker modes using GMM 1. In this regard, speech data in both enabled and disabled speaker modes of cell phones and telephones were collected, processed and classified into two different categories. The different mixture numbers (1 to 4) of GMM and wave files sizes of 10, 20, 40 and 80 kb were tested in order to obtain an optimal condition for classification. The GMM method attained 87.99% correct classification rate on test data.     Abstract
    This paper considers flocking to the virtual leader in network of agents with double-integrator. A locally linear algorithm is employed which guarantees exponential flocking to the virtual leader. A lower bound for flocking rate is calculated which is independent of the initial conditions. Simulations are provided to validate the result and it is shown that the calculated rate is not over bound the actual convergence rate. The effect of coefficients of algorithm is investigated and it is shown that the similar results can be inferred from the calculated formula for the convergence rate. Copyright

    A novel semi-active control system for suspension systems of passenger car using Magnetorheological (MR) damper is introduced. The suspension system is considered as a mass-spring model with an eight-degrees-of-freedom, a passive damper and an active damper. The semi-active vibration control is designed to reduce the amplitude of automotive vibration caused by the alteration of road profile.
