    Self-modeling curve resolution techniques applied to comparative analysis of volatile components of Iranian saffron from different regions

    Abstract
    Volatile components of saffron from different regions of Iran were extracted by ultrasonic-assisted solvent extraction (USE) and were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Self-modeling curve resolution (SMCR) was proposed for resolving the co-eluted GC-MS peak clusters into pure chromatograms and mass spectra. Multivariate curve resolution-objective function minimization (MCR-FMIN) and multivariate curve resolution-alternating least square (MCR-ALS) were successfully used for this purpose.     Abstract
    The volatile components of Iranian saffron were extracted using ultrasonic solvent extraction (USE) technique and then were separated and detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Variables affecting the extraction procedure were screened by using a 25-1 fractional factorial design and among them; sample amount, solvent volume, solvent ratio and extraction time were optimized by applying a rotatable central composite design (CCD). The optimum values of factors were: 2.38 g sample, 29.04 mL solvent, 69.23% MeOH solvent ratio and 71.8 min for the extraction time.     The properties of metallic nanorods vary due to changes in their composition, size and shape, which all depend on the aspect ratio of the nanorods. This work focuses on the optimization of the aspect ratio of silver nanorods using response surface methodology (RSM). Seed-mediated approach, which is the newest method with less difficulty, has been used for the synthesis of silver nanorods. First, silver ions were reduced with sodium borohydride in the presence of sodium citrate dehydrate, as stabilizer.     This work introduces a new gradient fiber coating for microextraction of chlorobenzenes. Nanoclusters of organoclay-Cu(II) on a copper wire were fabricated by wireless electrofunctionalization. The resultant gradient coatings are more robust, and thermally and mechanically stable. Wireless electrofunctionalization was carried out in a bipolar cell under a constant deposition potential and using an ethanolic electrolyte solution containing stearic acid and montmorillonite.     The gas chromatography retention indices of 100 different components of essential oils, on three columns with stationary phases of different polarities, were used to develop robust quantitative structure-retention relationship (QSRR) models. Two linear models with only one variable, i.e. solvation entropy, were developed, which explain 95 and 94% of variances of the test set for dimethyl silicone and dimethyl silicone with 5% phenyl group columns, respectively.     Abstract
    In this paper, an analytical performance model for adaptive wormhole routing in the hypercube-based optical transpose interconnection system (OTIS-hypercube) is proposed and validated. Using this model, the performance merits of the OTIS-hypercube are discussed. We also compare the performance of the OTIS-hypercube with that of equivalent hypercube network under different implementation constraints. Compared to pure simulation results, the presented model can serve as a more appropriate and compact method to display the performance characteristics of OTIS-hypercube networks. © 2007 Elsevier Inc.     The current study presents an application of near infrared spectroscopy for identification and quantification of the fraudulent addition of barley in roasted and ground coffee samples. Nine different types of coffee including pure Arabica, Robusta and mixtures of them at different roasting degrees were blended with four types of barley.     Abstract
    The gas chromatography retention indices of 168 pesticides were used to construct a robust quantitative structure - retention relationship (QSRR) model. After outlier detection by Cook's influence measurement, the remaining compounds were subjected to two different modeling strategies. The first one was stepwise multiple linear regression (stepwise-MLR). Results of this method revealed that 81.7 percent of variances of the response could be explained by the model. The other strategy was kernel orthogonal projection to latent structure (KOPLS).     Numerous analytical performance models have been proposed for deterministic wormhole-routed mesh networks while only a single model, to our best knowledge, has been suggested for fully adaptive wormhole routing in mesh interconnection networks. This paper proposes a new and accurate analytical performance model for fully adaptive wormhole-routed mesh networks. Simulation results show that unlike the previously proposed model which is only accurate in light traffic loads, this model can be used for the performance analysis of almost all traffic loads. © 2007 Elsevier B.V.
