    Commonly, capillary pressure-saturation-relative permeability (Pc-S-Kr) relationships are obtained by means of laboratory experiments carried out on soil samples that are up to 10-12 cm long. In obtaining these relationships, it is implicitly assumed that the soil sample is homogeneous. However, it is well known that even at such scales, some micro-heterogeneities may exist. These heterogeneous regions will have distinct multiphase flow properties and will affect saturation and distribution of wetting and non-wetting phases within the soil sample.     Abstract
    Precipitation, aggregation, and breakup of asphaltene particles are studied under natural depletion and nitrogen injection processes by means of high pressure filtration and a photographic procedure coupled with image analysis. Filtration results show that nitrogen destabilizes asphaltenes extremely, and the problem is more severe for heavier crude samples. Bimodal histograms of particle size distribution show two agglomeration mechanisms: cluster aggregation dominant around bubble point pressure and diffusion limited far away.     Asphaltene deposition in a reservoir severely reduces the effective permeability and results in a reduction in oil production. The main term in asphaltene deposition modeling in the porous media is pore surface deposition. Previous models do not describe the effects of different parameters (i.e., concentration, velocity, and temperature) on the pore surface deposition term. We report the results of a series of experiments carried out to study the effects of the above parameters on the surface deposition term using an accurate thermal method. A relaxation-dissipation approach is proposed to improve the timing of pressure pulses predicted by the classic DVCM.     A closed-form analytical computation of groundwater travel time (GWTT) for two-layer oceanic small island aquifers is developed assuming steady-state and sharp-interface conditions. The two-layer geology impacts on the GWTT are investigated using the developed analytical solution to achieve a greater transparency of such conceptualizations.
